Suffered a broken leg today, for the sixth time in his career:
I am struggling to think of a jockey who has had more injuries.
I suppose he should be back for Cheltenham and perhaps even the DRF. Good luck to him with his recovery but I have to wonder if these injuries will take a toll on him, mentally as well as physically.
November 30, 2024 at 23:46 #1714487Yes, it’s worrying isn’t it. I’ve had a soft spot for Jack ever since he won the Supreme on Labaik and I chatted to his mum by the winners enclosure. Mind you, I looked at a newspaper cutting that showed the number of injuries that Ruby Walsh sustained over the years. From memory Adrian Maguire was rather injury prone wasn’t he.
December 1, 2024 at 08:42 #1714494Yes being a Ruby follower, he had plenty of injuries which just goes to show wat a great jockey he was. He did retire on his own terms though, unlike some unfortunate jockeys.
December 1, 2024 at 09:29 #1714497I doubt that Jack reads TRF, but I wish him a full and rapid recovery all the same.
The poor bloke has had so much bad luck over the years.
December 1, 2024 at 13:43 #1714519It’s very sad for him to suffer another injury blow so short before the Christmas period. Hopefully he’ll return for the big spring meeting.
Speedy and full recovery for him.
December 1, 2024 at 14:04 #1714526Desperate bad luck again for Jack.its a shame he isn’t based in Uk as the much softer fences here would make less likely to hit the ground
December 1, 2024 at 15:36 #1714542I know there are some falls that will end up with you getting injured no matter what you do but breaking you leg six times seems to be a bit more than just being unlucky all the time, at this stage you just pretty much expect him to break his leg when he falls.
Maybe he needs to think outside of the box and go and speak to some professional stuntmen who are trained in how to fall and land safely from various situations which including many kinds of moving vehicles and even horses – maybe they could show him some techniques that could help him in minimising the chance of injury from future falls.
December 1, 2024 at 16:07 #1714545Good point, LD. I was wondering if there could be some room for improvement when it comes to designing new jockey boots. Maybe to offer more protection when they hit the ground. On the other hand you could have a part of the horse falling on your leg which could be very tough to prevent.
December 1, 2024 at 17:23 #1714553I’m no medic but surely the continued reoccurrence of the same/similar injury indicates some structural weakness. You wonder how much longevity he will have poor lad
March 14, 2025 at 08:12 #1723694I don’t believe the injury Jack Kennedy is carrying cost him the Stayers Hurdle yesterday. But if he is “limping” (the word used by Lydia Hislop in the Road To Cheltenham Day 3 Wrap last night) should he be riding?
Watch him go an ride a treble now I have said that!
March 14, 2025 at 10:29 #1723738Jack’s bad leg got butted by State Man when he got up which must have been painful. Plenty of jockeys ride with a limp, Johnny Burke was another one limping yesterday. AP used to ride on with much worse than just a limp. I’m sure they wouldn’t pass the Doctor or want to ride if they couldn’t do themselves justice. Hopefully Jack will ride a winner.
March 14, 2025 at 17:45 #1723931You can’t expect to win at the festival unless your 100% , if I was Elliott id be spending the summer convincing Sean Bowen to head to Ireland , I’ve nothing against Kennedy but it’s obvs he’s done , if your seriously planning on beating Mullins then he needs to get the best available … Bowen

McManus really needs a proper jockey for the UK and I think he should approach Bowen or Cobden.
March 14, 2025 at 18:38 #1723958Get Bowen , he’s the best , has been for a while now , some of his rides in the last month have been proper McCoy stuff , I get the feeling Jonjo junior is getting the JP gig though , Elliott has used Bowen in the UK , he now needs him in Ireland

March 14, 2025 at 23:52 #1724003Poor Jack Kennedy got clattered by State Man. He has no luck, great talent but the injuries must take their toll.
March 15, 2025 at 05:50 #1724025As I said at the start of the thread “I have to wonder if these injuries will take a toll on him, mentally as well as physically.”
I feel sorry for him over all the misfortune he he has had – but this is elite level sport and it often comes down to fine margins. Is a limping jockey in pain and discomfort really going to ride as well as a fully fit jockey?
I wouldn’t go as far as to say he is “done”. I have seen a few comments this season about Rachael Blackmore not riding as well since being injured but she bounced back with two winners this week, giving both of them excellent rides. Perhaps Kennedy can take some inspiration from her.
March 15, 2025 at 06:21 #1724035Rachel has done really well this week however she hasn’t the history of injuries like Jack , Kennedy has missed huge chunks of time in the last few seasons , he’s now one of two bad falls from retirement , if Elliott doesn’t act then it shows his lack of planning …. He knows Bowen , he know needs to get him as his no1
