I’d have to agree although Barry did settle Diamond Harry nicely and got a good response without undue effort from the jockey when he asked him to get into the race.
I love this horse and have backed him in all his races.
While that was a very impressive debut producing what to me looked the best novice chase performance of the season, with the RSA in mind, yet I’d have to say by Diamond Harry’s usual high standards he wasn’t spectacular today.
I feel he’ll come on lots for this run, with Timmy back on board he’s looking very strong for the RSA.
Right now I can’t see one to beat him, not Knockara Beau or Weird Al (two on my original very short short list) that’s for sure.So if he was 2 stone below his best first time out, then a stone below on his third run how did be get close to peak on his second run yet lose half of that in the few weeks before Aintree, It doesn’t make sense
more like a stone and a half short of best in the 2009 Gold Cup…that would be more logicalPS I was never a big fan of Best Mate, I just recognise his stature and one of the Greats. It’s no so long ago we were have the same ridiculous debate……..
Arkle v. Best Mate
……as we are now having……
Arkle . Kauto Star….don’t make me laugh
What short memories we have Collectively

Media, without sounding too patronising.you will need to go a lot further back through the threads to find where i mentioned Long Run as an RSA bet!
May I edit his comment :>)
without sounding too patronising.you will need a good set off binoculars to look back through the field to find Long Run if he runs in the RSA
He should be kept foir Aintree, I can’t see him get round if he runs in the RSA, let alone trouble the judge!

I’d say there’s more between the two that that, starting (obviously with Arkle and Flyingbolt) I’d put Denman in 3rd and Mill House and Best Mate both in front of Kauto.
The latest King George field was very poor, lots of placed horses from previous years would have got a lot closer to Kauto , even that old rouge Kingscliffe would have been well clear of the rest of the field had he been running in the 2009 renewal ( and reproducing his run behind Kicking King of course)Grasshopper
How about the Denman that ran at Aintree?
The Denman that won the two Hennesseys and the 2008 Gold Cup could have given two stone to the Denman we saw in 2009
In my younger days I was a fairly sucessful middle distance runner, I know from experience just how long it takes to recover from injury and I’ve never had as bad an illness as Denman had…..that the lord!
Fist
Some inconsitency here
Kauto beats a recovering Denman by 13 lengths and you say that cannot be reveresed
Yet reading your CH posts you confidently expect Go Native to reverese 13 lengths with Voler La Vadette even though Go Native had no heart problems
Please clarify the difference in the two lots of 13 lengths……………..
According to racing post he paid £1.60?????
The trouble with betting at tote odds at small meetings with low numbers of punters is that one big bet will totally change the market, it can work either way though, too much on a loser will boost the other dividents
Donna’s Palm EW at 6-1 looks the value

Racing post lets one watch any race for 20p, if you search on google you’d probably find a free link.
Careful though…I got shot down in flames for suggesting Donna’s Palm is a realCH player and most poster were less that conplimentary about Voler La Vadette, why (?) I’ve NO IDEA? Too impressive against Go Native perhaps, too good to be true? Not the way I saw it

Nice to see a young man with an "old head on young shoulders" I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Out of interest How would you read the 2010 race if Dunguib and/or Voler La Vadette were in the line up?
PS May I recommend you view the You Tube Golden Cygnet’s 1978 win at The Festival…..good education…. I have a feeling you’d appreciate seeing the finest hurdler never to win a Champion Hurdle

I don’t think any of Sizing Europe’s hurdles form is better than Captain Cee Bee’s Supreme Novice win.His Irish Champion hurlde win couldn’t have been more impressive unless he’s been pulling a cart.
Had he not picked up his injury two out in The Champion Hurdle it seems to me (and still does having watched it again recently) that he looked like running away with the race, it took a whole season to nurse him back to his true form.He cost me a very large (5 figure) winning yankee in 2008, I had him teamed up with with Garde Champetre, Tidal Bay and Denman but I certainly hold nothing against him

I see what you are saying, ‘CheltenhamSpecialist’, and i agree with the sentiment, however, Nina Carberry is as likely to ride Denman in the Gold Cup, as i am to get the leg up on the fine horseYeah! agreed …of course it won’t happen….that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a very good booking though, she’d do a fine job
also , the more I look at the race the more I feel YOU might even win on him…IF you got the mount that is :>) !!!

i haven"t seen a performance like Denmans 2nd Hennessey Gold Cup win in all my years of betting horses!

I’d have to agree, I’d add Arkle’s Gallacher Gold Cup, Gorden Cygnet’s Supreme Novices and Denman’s first Hennessey to that very short list.Right now Denman is one of three banker’s I’ve earmarked for this year’s Festival but I do have great concerns about the choice of jockey. To me Denman is a horse that gives his all and then some plus a bit more, Sam Thomas looks "as one" with the horse and I don’t think anyone suits Denman as much as Sam, anyway what price some loyalty?
As much as I rate Ruby I think I’d prefer Sam Thomas but either will do for me and I’d be very dissapointed if the ride went elsewhere. To me Denman needs a jockey with sympathetic hands a good judge of pace and one who’ll let him get on with the job, if that’s the case and something comes near him going down the hill he’ll "eyeball" them out of the race like he did to What A Friend.
I know Sam was instructed not to make so much use of him last year, with his long term health paramount this was obviously the correct decision yet I can imagine Denman resenting the restraint. What he doesn’t need is a busy jockey like Tony McCoy on board, or worse, someone who thinks he’s the star rather that the horse is the star, Paul Carberry springs to mind.
Timmy Murphy would be perfect, as good from the front as when arriving late, kind hands, settles horses and presents them right at every fence, sits tight, he’d need to when The Tank throws in one his truly almighty leaps (Cross fence at Newbury!!!).
Or Left field thinking…. I’d have Nina Carberry, all the same qualities as Timmy Murphy, described by Enda Bolger as "Probably he best rider I’ve ever seen, horses run and jump for her, I never give riding instructions, she instinctively knows what to do"

Why’s that, you have him as the one to beat? ? ?

Sizing Europe is the class act in the field, the best hurdler by far and has an unblemished chase record, he looks to be even better over fences.
Although I rarely bet on the flat I do keep an eye on what’s going on but it’s decades since a flat horse really caught my imagination…… Ardross if I recall correctly…but I must admit to being seduced by the life story and having a small wager on Zenyatta in The Breeders Cup….WOW!!!!!! What a mare, and what a shame See The Stars and Rachel Alexandra weren’t in the line up but even allowing for her hissy fit at being put in and out of the stalls and noit wanting to know for several furlongs I can’t imagine either horse beating her that evening!
Let’s hope for both your sakes that Sizing Europe goes for The Champion Chase
