I would probably have fancied Sublimity to beat Solwhit on better ground, as I think he was very unlucky at Leopardstown too. A friend of mine working for the yard, told me he has never been better. May be blind faith, I just love this horse though!!
January 18, 2010 at 17:27 #270658Voler Le Vadette misses the race…..back to the drawing board!!!!!
January 18, 2010 at 18:51 #270680I’ve just spent an hour or two going through past form, looks like the obvious pair are Solwhit or Sublimity but Donnas Palm is a very interesting alternative.
Just over a year ago he was rated above Go Native by both Noel Meade and Paul Carberry before his jumping fell to pieces.
This would appear to be corrected judging by his runs this season. If he’s judged on all but his last run in 2008 and his form this season he’s a serious contender for any Grade 1 hurdle. Check the form of his neck defeat by Hurricane Fly who (if I recall the race correctly) was all out to win.January 18, 2010 at 20:31 #270711The race to which you refer was run at a crawl, CS, and they only started racing in the last three furlongs. Cousin Vinny was only about a further neck back, which is a much better indicator as to the value of the form.

AGREED
Cousin Vinny was only about a further neck back,
ACTUALLY 2 & 1/2 LENGHTS
which is a much better indicator as to the value of the form
FAIR COMMENT
I was merely trying to find an alternative to the two obvious contenders :>)
January 19, 2010 at 11:27 #270797I’ve been saying for a while that it seems to me that few can accept the Voler La Vedette / Go Native form at face value.
Perhaps if she’d won by 3 lengths she’d be a shorter price for The Champion Hurdle.
Someone said (on this forum) the form wasn’t worth a sausage, that’s NOT how it looked to me, if it comes up soft at Cheltenham she’ll take a deal of beating that’s for sure, even Dunguib will need to be at his best if they both show upI believe so strongly that she is over-rated that I am "fist-ish" (sounds nasty!) in my conviction. Go native wasnt fit enough on the day.

January 19, 2010 at 11:45 #270802Sir Harry…………looks like we’ll have to wait till later in the season or even next year to find out.
Go Native already had two(winning) runs not a month either side of the defeat by VLV and Noel Meade says Go Native goes well fresh so I’ll wait and see.
However I rather doubt if either would cope with Dunguib if he showed upJanuary 19, 2010 at 13:29 #270824(2:45) 14D Toshiba Irish Champion H’dle (Grade 1)

January 19, 2010 at 14:12 #270840I wouldn’t be in a hurry to back Torphichen. The line Ebadiyan had created is squint. Don’t let me put you off though, follow your own opinion is what i’d say to anyone Wallace.
January 19, 2010 at 14:16 #270841I cant see it winning but very interesting plot by EOG…….If the money comes i may take a interest
January 22, 2010 at 16:29 #271447It now looks a two-horse race and while I’m not a fan of either, I’ll just take Solwhit to outgun Celestial Halo!
January 22, 2010 at 19:22 #271487Interesting little race! P,Nicholls will see this like an away match for Manchester Utd,So whatever Celestial does will put him bang on for the Big one!
January 22, 2010 at 19:26 #271490Donna’s Palm EW at 6-1 looks the value

Interesting little race! P,Nicholls will see this like an away match for Manchester Utd,So whatever Celestial does will put him bang on for the Big one!
Reading between the lines you could be very wrong about that.
PN has already said if he doesn’t win the big one he’ll go chasing. The owner says he’s not good enough and everyone assumes he needs to run at Cheltenham to be seen at his best.
It’s more likely he was short of a gallop or two when beatn by Binocular at Ascot and that gives people that impression.
Taking the above into consideration I would imagine this is his Champion Hurdle and he’ll be 110% fit for it.
Celestial Halo has a lot more speed than people give him credit for. If the ground is decent he may be better suited by this track at this trip than Solwhit.
Personally I think he’ll just about win this.
January 23, 2010 at 00:10 #271535I don’t understand your logic Fist. I would have thought Nicholls would be leaving a bit to work on with Celestial Halo, maybe operating at around 85-90% for this?

Well occording to Charles Byrne I could be right and this should hit the RP Website later today "I know he’s won two Grade One races this season, but Celestial Halo is going to be hard to beat, as I’ve heard they have him in really good order"
