Ian WROTE. Sublimity isn’t top class and Solwhit didn’t exactly run all over him.
What were you expecting? a reincarnation of Golden Cygnet? Solwhit showed he is one of the two best hurdler in training (Dunguib is the other) he won well, going away and will be well suited by the Cheltenham hill

I was expecting pretty much what I got. This current bunch of two mile hurdlers are awful.
January 24, 2010 at 15:27 #271846I think Zaynar, Go Native, Solwhit, Medermit, are anything but awful, but we all have opinions.

Zaynar and Go Native are the ones that have progression in them and the ones that could be anything.
Certainly they have nothing to fear from the established brigade.
January 24, 2010 at 15:32 #271849Dont you class Medermit as progressive, Ian? ? ?

Yes he’s progressing with every run but he’s no superstar and I’ll be amazed if he’s good enough to win a Champion Hurdle.

Im slightly suprised that he is not 2nd or 3rd favourite for the CH personally.
Cracking horse, one of the best i have seen school too.
Very talented.
He’s done more than the talking horses such as Binocular and co.
January 24, 2010 at 16:19 #271863Will someone please give Sublimity the credit he deserves one day; ran his heart out again today. Love the horse.

Lovely horse, much respected by me at least, beaten by two very good horses today

Moe if ever you saw a horse dependant on good ground its Sublimity,he proved today the ground was heavy! On good ground at Cheltenham?? i hope you back him!

Unlike me to have a very one sided book on a big race, but i have only backed Celestial Halo up to now! Medermit would be my idea of a big priced danger to all, which only encourages the chances of Go Native too! Binocular is still the horse i am worried about most though! Solwhit and 2 miles on good ground at Cheltenham!!Not a prayer!

Brother !

I was recently chastised for suggesting that Alderbrook (not even a particular favourite of mine) would win the 2010 CH with some ease against this lot. I reiterate that opinion.
January 24, 2010 at 17:43 #271880Have overlooked Medermit up till now because of two things; First was the impression that he was probably going novice chasing this year, and secondly I always thought he was a soft ground horse. AK said that although he has won on heavy [which probably gave everyone that impression last year] he would be better on good ground.

I am with you on this. IMO Alderbrook would murder the current crop even with his injury problems,
As time and more races go by, I cant help but edge more towards Zaynar.

The RP have the time-based ground as g/s, a view wholly supported by the opening Maiden being run just 10.2 secs over standard (The Irish Champion being only 1.2 secs faster).
A thoroughly disappointing run by Celestial Halo, who seems to have lost whatever speed he had, and the World Hurdle or fencing beckons before too long, imo.January 25, 2010 at 08:31 #271963The RP have the time-based ground as g/s, a view wholly supported by the opening Maiden being run just 10.2 secs over standard (The Irish Champion being only 1.2 secs faster).

Paul Nicholls needs to do exactly what he did prior to Wincanton and that is leave him alone for a couple of weeks and bring him back fresh and buzzy!People are quick to forget this horse has one target this year, let Solwhit make hay while the "Sunshines" so to speak, yesterday was a good day out and in my opinion apart from the ground,i believe Celestial was well short of peak fitness! He"s 20/1 now for the Champion and suddenly becomes the best e/w bet in the race!Team Nicholls will have him spot on cometh the day of reckoning! If he runs like that again its fences and i will eat plenty of humble pie! Never bothered me yet!

Solwhit has won 8 of his 11 hurdle races (??) and has now taken a john smiths hurdle the big 2 mile at punchestown and now an irish champion hurdle. He has just turned six and his CV is pretty good. Surely awful is a tad hyperbolic?
I think this is an open champion hurdle mainly because a lot of young horses are arriving in to it without anybody knowing the depths of there abilities. This isnt the same as a bunch that keep beating each other.
