I think Annie Power will run the CH, Faugheen in the stayers hurdle.

If both of the those two don’t make it then I would love to see Yorkhill re-routed to the Champion Hurdle (backed at 20’s and 16’s), and even more so Jezki at 130. Jezki goes Irish Champion Hurdle soon and if some of these market principals get sidelined it makes perfect sense for JH to drop him in here. I have always thought of him as older than he is – he is only 8! Enormous price for a horse who has been there done that and won 8 grade 1’s (6 over 2m).

    VVM to go Ryanair Chase

I imagine that the overall point is that we should help each other and perhaps would of been nice for someone to say before the tolworth that it may be worth back in finians for the Neptune at 16/1 prior to the race

That’s completely fair enough but everyone on here seems fairly clued up – that’s one of the reasons I like TRF. I assumed, given the history of the Tolworth as a precursor for Cheltenham, that people would have realised 20/1 for the Neptune over 13/8 for the Tolworth pre-race was a ‘no brainer’ if you were really confident he would win.

I don’t see why people have to be so unnecessarily sceptical. It is perfectly common practice to back a horse for Cheltenham in Jan or Feb before a run at a price like 13/8. Finians Oscar is the perfect great example. I am one of the people that posted after the Tolworth that I backed Finian’s Oscar @ 16’s for the Neptune (which is incorrect, I actually got 14’s and now I am livid B-) ). I didn’t say beforehand because had he lost its not relevant to anyone on here, its just another losing bet and I am sure we all have plenty of them. Happy to share a pic of bet slip should anyone want it

I get what your saying Charlie87 I agree Rich has a big soft spot for her and I’m sure he’d love her to reclaim the champion hurdle before being retired like his wife apparently wanted to do at the end of last season. I spose the fact that he managed to convince her to keep Annie in training one more year adds weight to the fact they will let her defend her title.

It’s just Willie I’m concerned about, Rich appeared to want to race Vautour against Djakadam in the Gold cup last year but ultimately Willie found a way to get him in the Ryanair (apparently hadn’t been sparkling at home) it certainly didn’t look like that on the track.

I just wonder might we get the line we wouldn’t want her going to a champion hurdle without a prep run so we’ll run in the mares race as it’s an easier assignment for her.

I suppose it’s anybody’s guess really, by the time we know who goes where the prices will be long gone unfortunately but we can take a stab and hope we get it rite I suppose. We may find out a little more if Faugheen shows up at the end of the month.

I’d love to see them take each other on it would be brilliant for the sport but again although I think Rich could maybe be talked into it I’m sure Willie and Ruby would be dead against it.

    All good points Tone101.

I am puzzled why Faugheen is 5/2 and Annie Power 4/1. Connections have mentioned a step up in trip for Faugheen is on the cards and he is coming back from injury – I am as convinced as I can be that if both make it to cheltenham fit (and I know at this stage its a big if), that Annie will go Champion, win, then retire.

I agree to an extent Tone101, but I think a lot of people miss possibly the biggest point in that Willie is creature of habit. Yes, annoyingly one of those habits is leading punters down the garden path, but the other is that he repeats what works. If you were Willie why would you run Annie Power? To hose up some nothing races in Ireland for small prize money and risk injury for festival? No chance. RR has a massive soft spot for this mare which was clear for all to see in his post champion hurdle interviews last year. No way they don’t give her a chance at reclaiming her crown. Last year worked a treat and I fully expect her to do what she did last year, this year. People will be saying after the CH this year what they were saying after the Champion Chase last year – 4/1?!?!?!

Champion Hurdle, Yorkhill ew 20’s general
Stayers, Saphir Du Rheu ew 25’s general
Gold Cup, Minella Rocco, ew 40’s general

I was incredibly tempted to put up Yorkhill on here but I have him in quite a few multiples for the CH so will be made up if he diverts

We confident ADO will be going RSA all being well? Gigginstown have a few they could aim at the RSA and my worry is they will be tempted with the stayers hurdle

If he goes stayers hurdle I’ll be gutted

Already looking like being my biggest Cheltenham bet In the years I’ve been betting

I think plenty of us will be gutted. I am going to cover my stake on the RSA by backing ADO for the stayers @ 25’s

It makes sense result of Tolworth divides opinion. Over the last 4/5 years we have known a lot more about previous winners, having seen Yorkhill, L’ami Serge, Royal Boy, Melodic Rendezvous etc, run 3-4 times before the Tolworth, so it was easier to make their case for the festival and some will argue those were more competitive races. That being said, this horse has the potential to be anything – that is said too often but I think in this case it is quite exciting. We know the form of CT as we do the Tolworth as a trial for Cheltenham. I love how unexposed this horse is and it obviously takes a lot of ability to step into a grade 1 like that and win the way he did.

Not too many horses win a Grade 1 on only their second run. Not too many horses will win a Grade 1 by daylight over a trip shorter than ideal and after at least a couple of iffy jumps. Add in the ground was possibly softer than ideal as well and all told I think you have a pretty impressive performance. Unfortunately, in general plenty of the criticism on here often seems a result of not backing said horse.

    Well said that man

Took 16’s before the race on Finians Oscar – into 5’s now. Pretty happy with that

A shrewd move there Charlie. It will be interesting to see what Death Duty does tomorrow
at Naas, if he messes up you could find Finians odds may drop even more. Best of luck :good:

Cheers Big G. I wasn’t blown away but then I wasn’t expecting to be. It was a huge step up from Hereford and he handled it well. Ticks the boxes for Neptune IMO

Loose Chips for me at 18/1. Last 5 runs at Sandown read 21217. No coincidence that 7th came when upped to 3m5f – simply ran out of steam. Back down at 3m is the perfect trip as demonstrated when he dispatched Rocky Creek in November over C&D. I like the October form behind Double Ross where he again beat Rocky Creek – well handicapped and i expect another bold run from the front at a big price.

Unfolded as predicted but 18/1 EW was good.
