Really the smart people here would notice how great an oportunity Canford Cliffs not being odds-on is. 5/4 is huge. Goldikova was far from impressive when narrowly holding on in the Prix d’ispahan and has age against her. I was there to see Canford win the Lockinge and he just cruised to win and looked as good as ever in the paddock. Richard Hannon Jnr is certain that the horse is at his peak and he’s unbeaten at Ascot. The Hannon camp have also let it be known how they rate this miler superior to Paco Boy who would have won last years Queen Anne if not for being down the middle come the line and Hughes thinking he could breeze past a multiple Group 1 winner like third rate horses. If season debuts are followed as well as the trainer gossip then Canford could start the Royal Meeting on a good note for his followers. However, I might be inclined to back Ransom Note each way at 33/1 if there’s enough runners bearing in mind the fast pace Goldikova’s pace maker will make will ensure he’ll run on and the others have too many holes in their form. Cape Blanco is coming back from Dubai and has probably slowed since going 1m4f. Dick Turpin clealy has not trained on as they would of hoped and unpredicted rain needs to come for others. But back to the point – Canford Cliffs has to be a good bet at 5/4 :!:

Sorry I don’t get round to doing this much. I’ve been a bit annoyed since napping Light From Mars on the fist post of the season on Yahoo and then having to move here so i’ve not really bothered. But I’ll try to renew an effort. Problem is that I keep getting stuck away from a computer – was at Epsom last Friday, Saturday. Nice to see it’s still going strong though. Just thought i’d let you know i’m still alive. Till next week!

There’s a long way to Goodwod and from past experience I’ve learnt that the bookies know best. After all wouldn’t you say Frankel’s 2000 Guineas win was much better than Canford Cliff’s Lockinge Win?

Offer a free entry to American horses to run in major classic distance races in the back end of the flat season to persuade their best to come over here rather then our best go over their for the Breeder’s Cup.

Apart from the French, foreign horses have never done well in England but I have to admit the horse is clearly talented. However, I can see him getting beat at Ascot against the best we have to offer sprinting wise and I’m not sure about Haydock. Good horse but i’ll back against him because I can’t see Hungarian form being good enough here.

Balthazaar’s Gift doesn’t stay a mile and has dropped to a rating 16 below Canford Cliffs’. Beacon Lodge is 3 from 2 at Newbury and is in form. However, I’m not convinced he beat much last week and only win over a mile came in France. He’s better over 7furlongs with a bit more cut in the ground. If the rain comes then by all means Cityscape has a huge chance but on good-firm ground he shouldn’t reverse the form with Dick Turpin. Jan Vermeer hasn’t been seen for 300 odd days after a dissapoining run at Longchamp and returning to a mile may not be O’Brien’s worst idea. I’m not conviced he’ll run their though and even if he does he may not be back to his best first time out so I wouldn’t back him at anything under 8/1. Premio Loco seems to like firm going and the mile is his ideal trip. 13 lengths to make up on Cityscape from October though and some with Canford Cliffs from Sussex Stakes. My not be at best after Dubai trip. Red Jazz is back from Dubai after a good run and seems as good over a mile as 7furlongs however he has yet to win over 8 or even run at Newbury. He very nearly won last years QE2 and although he may like a bit more cut in the ground if he comes back with his latest Newmarket from then he has a huge shout. Shakespearean has come closer last than first in 3 starts and proabably would benefit from rain though he should be outclassed on recent form. As much as I love Twice Over as a horse he isn’t as good over a mile as 2 furlongs further. He came close in this behind pipedreamer but this as good as or even better a field than that and although returning to a faster trip may not totally hinder him I don’t think he has the speed of the others. Worthadd has yet to be confirmed and best perfomances have come on soft. I don’t think this foreigner will do better than the others that have traveled from a far in this race. Dick Turpin is 1 from 1 at Newbury but may have used his ‘goes well fresh’ card. However, the ground shouldn’t be a worry and has finished in front of Canford Cliffs more times than he has finished behind him though Hughes knows best. Canford is unbeaten in 3 starts with favourable ground. Long time off but if back to best he should wi again and increase that 126 rating. I think he’ll need to hack up if he’s got any chance of beating Frankel later in the season as Richard Hughes claims he will. My bet will go the way of Red Jazz each-way but Twice Over with rain who’s looking for compensation from terrible World Cup run.

    17:10 (Ascot) – Son Of The Cat – 9th
    Reserve:

C’mon he’s one of the best flat jockeys in the world and if it wasn’t for Hanagan’s jammie bookings and rides I’d be tipping him for the jockey’s championship. He did show his emmotions when doing the classic Oaks, Derby double last year and did comment on the wins. He’s just quite shy and it’s not as if he’s been around for very long. Lay of him, sure he doesn’t like interviews but nor do many jockeys. He’s an amazing jockey and just because he isn’t as flamboyent as Frankie Dettori isn’t something to moan at. We should be glad there’s such a strong proffesional in the sport.
