Great call and well done!
7.40am UK time. Les Arcs was reported to have had "noisy breathing" after it track workout earlier today.
Its probably easier for me to email the Ascot Striaght Mile Vertical profiles to anybody whose interested? Just post your address up. I’ve done the old one now and I’m working on the new one using the info posted by Mr Potts earlier and pics from the Ascot website.

is there any way i can post a BMP bitmap on here?

does anybody know EXACTLY how far left or right the straight has been moved at Ascot and if the new straight has its starts exactly perpendicular to the starts on the old course. If somebody does I can put it into some fancy mapping software I have and put up graphs of old and new course profiles to compare the ups and downs on both
To me sectionals from the Derby meeeting or Royal Ascot would be a lot more in demand commercially than those from Southwell and the likes in the depths of winter. However maybe the tracks themselves have objections or a veto that TurfTrax can do nothing about?
Thanks Pru
That makes sense from TurfTrax’s point of view. I cant understand why a course like Ascot and all the money they have spent recently dont provide it though. In fact it should be available from all the Grade 1 flat tracks.
Thanks very much Alan. One more question, is the central rail that divides the course permanent?
Cheers
Here are the median cumulative lenghts beaten of 3YO versus Older horses in all 3YO+ races over a mile in the UK since 2000
For example in Group 1 races where 3YO’s competed against older horses the 3YO’s were on average beaten half a lenght less than the older horses, in Group2 they were beaten half a lenght more.
Overall I think it goes to show that the WFA for 3YO’s does a pretty good job of equalising the lack of maturity.
WFA obviously dosent work for 2YO’s, the allowances and times simply do not add up.  Maybe thats because the handicapper has a lot of actual races to compare 3YO’s against older horses which isnt the case with 2YO’s.
I’d still like some ideas on how slower a 2YO per mile is compared to a mature horse

Thanks Adrian, having done some research on 3yo compared to all age the WFA allowances do generally add up when converted to seconds. However a 2yo at the moment gets 37 lbs over a mile which converts into almost 3.5 seconds which to my mind is far too much.
A very good post Stav. I made the ground good to firm on Derby day as well. It was genuinely good on the Friday but given the fact they didnt water overnight and the hot weather I think its reasonable to assume the ground would ride faster on day 2 and my calculations confirm that.
Tyndarius, Southerncrosspatch and Jumbos Dream all aged 15 have run over hurdles and fences in 2006. On the flat Jamacian Flight and Lord Chamberlain are still racing in 2006 aged 13.
Hi Stav
Firstly thanks for the reply. Fishing I wasnt, in fact I found your book thought provoking and I was (am) interested in the thoughts of other forum members who may have read it. The main reason I signed up to this board was to discuss the subject of speed and how it relates to UK horseracing.
Any good method is generally the development of other peoples ideas as I’m sure yours is and there is certainly no one size fits all solution to the eternal search for winners.
Cheers
