Does anybody know which side of the July course racing normally takes place on (course divided in 2)? How is it decided? If anybody knows could you please reference your answer left or right from in the stands looking back up the course.
Thanks

Each half is used for the same number of days during the summer season.
Normal practice is to use one half for the meetings before the big July festival, then run that three day meeting on fresh ground on the other half.
From then on, they switch each weekend. By the end of August, both halves are worn out given the amount of racing they have on the July course.
There’s no fixed pattern as I’ve watched July meetings on both sides of the central rail, but for the last few years, the right hand half has been favoured for the big meeting since the result of the July Cup was heavily influenced by the stands rail bias on the left hand half of the track. That was the year Mozart won and the first four home were the four highest drawn horses in a field of twenty.

Cheers
