Just a little piece from The Telegraph on Reeves.
‘Taxes will rise. She has no choice. And it’s not her fault’
A dozen words that sum up Rachel Reeves’s list of excuses as she laid the groundwork for another tax raid.
The trouble is that almost a year ago today Reeves chose higher borrowing higher taxes and higher spending in her maiden budget. And it is she alone who must take the responsibility for the consequences……
It continues ….But a year ago the Chancellor changed her borrowing rules in order to spend an extra £70 bn.Not in total but for every single year of this parliament.
In the words of Richard Hughes, the chairman of the OBR the budget delivered “One of the largest increases in spending tax and borrowing of any single fiscal event in history”
It means the national debt now stands at £2.9tn or just over 95% of GPD.
That is up from £2.7tn at the time of the general election last year.
The OBR expects it to keep on rising both in cash terms and as a share of GPD.
good luck to allBeen frustrated so many times of late but investing on Shisospicy in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint was the lift I needed to look seriously again about investing on the horses.Fingers crossed connections will bring her back to these shores for something like the Kings Stand at Ascot.Today I’m looking at a horse who’s recent reappearance following over a year away looks overpriced and believe can outrun his current odds. This gelding first came to my attention when winning a Listed contest at this track back in 2022 when running his rivals ragged from the front.Although I don’t expect THE WIZARD OF EYE e/w to attempt that today his comeback run under new handler Tom Clover showed there’s still plenty of ability to be tapped.
good luck to alllol HDLG is reduced to petty jibs as his beloved Labour disintegrate and Reeves is caught out in another lie.
The eternal wail of Labour ministers ‘It wasn’t me, it was a mistake, it was someone else’s fault so & so are to blame’.
Makes me laugh …. Starmer says he refers it to his ethics watchdog who immediately declares Reeves innocent.
How deep did he look?
Not very far it seems in his efforts to clear her as a paper trail of emails casts huge doubts over Reeves and her husband’s denials.
Will Starmer sack her….. maybe not as she still can be used as a scapegoat for the economic mess.
good luck to allWhich one are you referring to Wilts ….. Starmer seems to announce a new one every week.
good luck to allAll the above I’ve voiced concern about on previous occasions ….
The number of races
Number of tracks
Vested interests
But one thing not mentioned so far which I believe will also help is eliminating many Listed,Group 3 & 2 contests. They are becoming a farce, with uncompetitive single digit fields and many of the runners not worthy of a place in such a race.
One could even make a case for fewer Group 1.
For me handicaps are the way to go, provide the prize money and connections will provide the entrants.
good luck to allWas more than a little surprised by Fitzgerald’s comment just before the 14-08 Doncaster maiden.Replying to a comment about there only being 5 runners considering the first prize of £21,000 he inferred connections thought £21k was neither here nor there for them.
Makes me wonder if he considers such a prize as ‘not worth turning out for’ how much are ITV paying him?
good luck to allfrom a article written by Ian Austin (former MP and now Lord Austin) published Oct 18
That’s why, as someone adopted and raised by a loving Jewish father, I’ve never been so appalled as I am by the decision of West Midlands Police to ban fans from Maccabi Tel Aviv from visiting my club for an away match next month.
That a local ‘Independent’ MP Ayoub Khan, worked with disgraced ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to organise a petition to have the match called off is a stain on the game and our country.
Local cleric Asrar Rashid, meanwhile, handed out an ‘Islamic ruling’ and warned disgracefully:’When the Tel Aviv fans come to Birmingham in a few weeks, we will not show them rahma [mercy].’
We should be clear about what has taken place.A group of fans have been banned from attending a match on the basis of their nationality – or perhaps their race. This is anti-Jewish racism straight out of the 1930’s.
I know from personal experience that West Midlands Police can appear less than impartial. When, last year I called the proscribed terrorist group Hamas an ‘Islamist death cult’ on X, I was stunned to find myself investigated for a so-called ‘non crime hate incident’.It was , I was told by a senior officer only a change in rules that prevented it being logged as such on my ‘police record’.
good luck to allTry listening to the local MP who wants them banned, not just what he says, but the tone he uses, his facial expressions and body language.
good luck to allI really can’t believe it,I find it literally devoid of reason when we have a governing party and it’s leader ready and willing to sell this country down the river,it’s supporters post on here how good he looks at the despatch box.Just how delusional are you about Labour and their agenda?
good luck to allTo be: or not to be: that is to the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or take up arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: To sleep:
No more: and a sleep to say we end …
I choose to take up arms and oppose this government for their lies, dishonesty and willingness to sell out the UK for his and Labour’s ideology.
good luck to alljust read from The Telegraph, released ‘witness statements’ over the China spy scandal is an interesting one from Matthew Collins (deputy national security advisor)
about China
‘cooperate where we can, compete where we need to, and challenge where we must’
Funny that the exact same wording was used in the Labour party manifesto in 2024?
and Starmer says his government played no part in the collapse of the trial ….. the above revelation calls this into doubt and suggests political inference.
good luck to all
‘Just a quick posting to say I’m invested in the following two horses today
BINHAREER e/w running at York
FLETCHERS DREAM @ my local track this evening
good luck to allHDLG …. what happened to the mass unemployment, the recession etc etc they forecast ….never happened.
From Dan Hodges column Oct 5 (on recognition of Palestine)
The domestic political imperatives confronting the PM have changed.Back then he judged it in his party’s interest to stand by Israel. Now he has calculated Israel needs to be cast adrift.Regardless of the impact on the Jewish community. That community should rightly not be held accountable for the actions of the Israeli government. But as we saw last week, that is not a distinction currently being drawn by those Islamist extremists who want to ‘Free Gaza’ by butchering Jews.
And yet Keir Starmer and his colleagues still refuse to take a stand. At the Labour conference,Sir Keir and his ministers rose in righteous unison to condemn the extremism of the far right.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood specifically singled out supporters of Tommy Robinson who had marched through London ,branding them ‘heirs to the skinheads and P***-bashers of old’.And while she conceded ‘not everyone chanted racist slogans’, the fact some did make it clear ‘that in their view of this country I have no place’.
On Thursday evening, as Jews started to mourn their dead, the racists again took to the streets, this time under pro-Palestinian banners. They chanted for the death of Jews, and the eradication of Israel as a Jewish state.
The reaction to this orgy of hate from Starmer and his ministers? Mealy mouthed appeasement.’just take a step back’,Mahmood pleaded.’Sometimes some love and friendship to other people is required’
Intimidate and threaten any other minority group and, Keir Starmer’s Labour will brand you a P***-basher.But intimidate and threaten Jews , and you will receive saccharine homilies about friendship and love.
(on genocide in Gaza) Hodges continues (ref to David Lammy being asked if this was the case)
Three weeks ago he slipped out a response.’The Government has not concluded that Israel is acting with that intent’ he said.
This issue goes to the very heart of the toxic debate raging over Israel’s response to the Oct 7 atrocities. So did Keir Starmer make a statement to Parliament confirming his Government’s assessment? Did he make a major address? Did he write a prominent newspaper article? Did he reference it all in last week’s conference speech?
No he stayed silent. The formal conclusion of His Majesty’s Government that Israel’s not, as it’s critic’s claim, prosecuting genocide has been effectively buried by the British PM.And why? …..
continues ….
to a Jewish community that is literally fighting for it’s life, it’s not what his pro-Palestinian activists want to hear.So Britain’s Jews are deemed expendable.
good luck to allI was wondering how long before Brexit was raised again.
Mervyn King was the best Governor of the BoE in recent years a proper knowledgeable economist who has more intellect in his little finger than Reeves will ever have and he didn’t need to fiddle his history.
When the ‘remain/rejoin/remoaners’ published reports of how the economy would be effected his comment was simply
‘They can’t possibly know that …. they are making it up’
Words which I agree with.
The way the bond markets view the current government has nothing to do with not being in the EU but everything to do with it’s handling of the economy.
good luck to allI do find all this righteous posturing by the left very laughable.
‘who f***** up the economy’ …. Labour did just as they are doing now.
The spy trial breakdown they blame on the previous administration in their hubris to gain favour with China.
The lament of Starmer over what happened in Manchester I find particularly galling given while anti-semitism ran rife through Labour under Corbyn he said nothing to defend them or women. It took the courts to tell him what a woman was and his views are defined by whatever the latest trend dictates.Labour’s current fawning to save themselves lies as usual with blaming everyone but them.
From Andrew Neil 4/10/25
Since Labour was elected last year and Reeves came out with her spending splurge and borrowing binge last Oct, the Government’s cost of borrowing to finance it’s deficits has risen steadily-and is now the highest of any major market economy.
UK ten year bonds now pay almost a full 1% more interest than Italy’s, even though the Italian deficit as a share of GDP is over a third bigger than ours.We pay over 0.5% more than France, which has an even bigger deficit than ours,no goverment, no agreed budget and a grid locked parliament.
The debt markets are penalising us because they see the way the wind is blowing. Starmer and Reeves have given up trying to curb public spending……
Anaemic growth, the highest inflation of any big market economy, the lowest business investment in the G7, the most expensive borrowing, taxes at record levels with more to come-that’s the reality that greeted Starmer and Reeves when they emerged from the Liverpool bubble…….
In reality not much has changed in the global economy since Reeves first disastrous budget a year ago, and almost everything that has gone wrong since then is of her own making.
good luck to allUnlike last season BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND has been given a very easy time of it.Made her seasonal bow at Newmarket during the Guineas meeting where the trainers rep explained at the time the ground to be unsuitable as the cause for her rather dismal run.Returned to the track at Ayr’s Western meeting and put up a quite scintillating display clocking career high numbers on ground similar to today’s underfoot conditions. She must hold every chance of following up running a similar race today.
good luck to allClaiming victimhood has become ‘fashionable’ …it’s straight out of the Harry & Meghan playbook.
‘poor me … pity me ….I’m the victim here’
Makes me shudder!
