I was wondering how long before Brexit was raised again.
Mervyn King was the best Governor of the BoE in recent years a proper knowledgeable economist who has more intellect in his little finger than Reeves will ever have and he didn’t need to fiddle his history.
When the ‘remain/rejoin/remoaners’ published reports of how the economy would be effected his comment was simply
‘They can’t possibly know that …. they are making it up’
Words which I agree with.
The way the bond markets view the current government has nothing to do with not being in the EU but everything to do with it’s handling of the economy.
good luck to allI do find all this righteous posturing by the left very laughable.
‘who f***** up the economy’ …. Labour did just as they are doing now.
The spy trial breakdown they blame on the previous administration in their hubris to gain favour with China.
The lament of Starmer over what happened in Manchester I find particularly galling given while anti-semitism ran rife through Labour under Corbyn he said nothing to defend them or women. It took the courts to tell him what a woman was and his views are defined by whatever the latest trend dictates.Labour’s current fawning to save themselves lies as usual with blaming everyone but them.
From Andrew Neil 4/10/25
Since Labour was elected last year and Reeves came out with her spending splurge and borrowing binge last Oct, the Government’s cost of borrowing to finance it’s deficits has risen steadily-and is now the highest of any major market economy.
UK ten year bonds now pay almost a full 1% more interest than Italy’s, even though the Italian deficit as a share of GDP is over a third bigger than ours.We pay over 0.5% more than France, which has an even bigger deficit than ours,no goverment, no agreed budget and a grid locked parliament.
The debt markets are penalising us because they see the way the wind is blowing. Starmer and Reeves have given up trying to curb public spending……
Anaemic growth, the highest inflation of any big market economy, the lowest business investment in the G7, the most expensive borrowing, taxes at record levels with more to come-that’s the reality that greeted Starmer and Reeves when they emerged from the Liverpool bubble…….
In reality not much has changed in the global economy since Reeves first disastrous budget a year ago, and almost everything that has gone wrong since then is of her own making.
good luck to allUnlike last season BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND has been given a very easy time of it.Made her seasonal bow at Newmarket during the Guineas meeting where the trainers rep explained at the time the ground to be unsuitable as the cause for her rather dismal run.Returned to the track at Ayr’s Western meeting and put up a quite scintillating display clocking career high numbers on ground similar to today’s underfoot conditions. She must hold every chance of following up running a similar race today.
good luck to allClaiming victimhood has become ‘fashionable’ …it’s straight out of the Harry & Meghan playbook.
‘poor me … pity me ….I’m the victim here’
Makes me shudder!
good luck to allAs a long missed friend and contributor used to say …..
Let the mute button be your friend!
I’m still hoping a jockey will tell a presenter who pushes a microphone under their nose just after the race exactly where they can shove it.
good luck to allQuite right she should be asked to repay. It’s standard/normal practice that goods or services purchased must be of the quality described and expected.
*laughs* befair if you want to really see people being ripped off … EU politicians & officials make our lot (all parties) look like rank amateurs.
good luck to allOnce again no reasoning just a left wing self righteous virtue signalling act who believes no one else is allowed an opinion.
What right wing views have I posted?
Yes I think Labour are totally economically incapable as they are proving now and have done in the past.
Is Starmer going to call a general election?
So what’s the point speculating what others may or may not do?
Found Andy Burnham’s comment abut the bond market really laughable …… just where does he think all the borrowed money comes from?
Think I’m going to continue posting here just to rub up the self righteous virtue signallers.
good luck to all

It’s reported Reeves has confirmed plans to ”water down’ the OBR’s scrutiny of her tax and spend plans.
Last year she announced to great fanfare how the OBR would be enhanced and given greater power to scrutinize Labour’s tax, spending and borrowing.
Her economic prowess has been exposed as the same old Labour tax & spend and now she’s looking to hide the mess by raising taxes again in the November budget something one year ago she swore she wouldn’t do!
The lowering of the NI threshold from £9,100 TO £5,000 dragged many part time workers into the net exposing business’ to significantly higher payments than that reported by lifting the top rate.Meaning a business with people earning under £100 per week would now have to pay NI on their employees wages.I wonder how many part timers have been ‘let go’ because of it?
And now the talk is of another round of taxation to fill a £20+ billion cavern in the governments finances.
Most people probably don’t remember Labour saying they would set up a department to make sure money was spent wisely and they got value for money.
Quietly dropped without a mention!
To HDLG instead of attacking everything I say give me good solid economic reasoning.Defend Labour’s policies without resulting to your usual rhetoric.
good luck to allVoter ID only used what was already in general use.
Funny thing some scream it will be used by future right wing governments to control but only the previous and current Labour governments have been the one’s trying to bring them in.
ID cards should be resisted by all as when Blair wanted to introduce them then as now they would be a one stop shop for identity fraud/theft.Those given access are open to blackmail and bribery (it’s happened in other places) to allow criminals access to the databases.
As for the argument ‘if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear’ this is the lazy man’s rational and without merit in my opinion.
By all means policies should be discussed but before Labour yell at Reform one should ask how many did they disclose pre election?
Having read 1984 and a lot more of Orwell’s writing I’m not at all sure what he will have made of Starmer’s Labour. One should perhaps take particular note of what he said about subverting language.
Utopia doesn’t and can’t exist because everyone’s idea is different!
Just a few thoughts.
good luck to allAfter a somewhat indifferent season the selection being put forward for your consideration finally got the give underfoot which to me suits her best and has come alive with back to back victories at Sandown and Ascot. On each occasion swooping fast and late WOOLHAMPTON *** cut down the leaders with a fine turn of foot recording career high numbers last time. With the form of those two races working out it gives every hope that this mare can at least gain a place,if you wish a e/w investment, but it would be remiss of me not to point out she can be tardy at the start and isn’t always well away from the gates.
good luck to allSaying Palestine & Hamas are separate things would be like saying the present and all previous UK governments have nothing to do with the UK as a country.
Btw HDLG I believe in repealing the Legacy Act Labour is going to also invalidate the Good Friday Agreement with the new ‘framework’ recently announced. But don’t hold your breath about the Irish Government pursuing IRA suspects with any vigour the way Labour will pursue veterans of the troubles under laws which didn’t exist at that time.
good luck to allRichard88
On Sunday Starmer and his Government recognized a state controlled by a terrorist group with the declared aim to be the destruction of Israel. In the next breath they post New Year greetings.
Why would any person of the Jewish faith not find this two faced and distasteful?
good luck to allPretty sure Corbyn is pleased by his successor’s announcement acknowledging and rewarding his terrorist friends.
Then to rub salt into the wounds and show how tone deaf they really are they post this on social media….
HAPPY ROSH HASHANAH
from all of us at the Labour Party
good luck to allSorry this being so late in posting but just couldn’t stop laughing at Labour’s latest cock up which we shouldn’t really as it could end up costing the country even more money and the taxpayer enriching foreign parts.Anyway shall just put forward CANON’S HOUSE * for your consideration as a each way prospect.
good luck to allAs I’m so late shall just put forward BEYLERBEYI * for your consideration for an each way interest.
good luck to allLabour in the ’70’s ….I remember them …. the country went bankrupt!
Thornberry says she asked for Mandelson to appear before the Foreign Affairs committee to answer questions and was denied the opportunity by the Foreign Office … now we know why.
Starmer could have saved himself a lot of trouble and the UK from embarrassment by getting the vetting right.I now hear he’s blaming Mandelson for not being candid …. isn’t the vetting process, done properly, supposed to uncover such deceit?
good luck to allHad a small each way investment on TROPICAL RETREAT e/w over at the Curragh
