The markets don’t care which party is in charge , they just care if they do someone stupid aka tax cuts by Truss which they couldn’t explain how they would be budgeted , one glance at Reforms unbudgeted manifesto would give the markets similar jitters , still Farage has already back peddaled on his stopping channel crossing within 2 weeks of being in government , there’s 3 years to pull the idiot apart , the public want to protest , there angry with what’s happened in the last year , there’s a difference between protesting and putting a trump wanna be in government , one glance at the rising unrest in the US should be a warning

September 8, 2025 at 22:51 #1739628From The Times “The UK does not consider Israel’s actions in Gaza to be genocide, David Lammy has said in a significant shift in position on the issue.
Until last week the UK government had maintained that the question of whether Israel had committed genocide was a matter for the courts and not for national governments to determine.
However, in a letter to the chair of the international development committee last week Lammy said that an assessment carried out by the Foreign Office had concluded that Israel’s actions did not constitute genocide.
The letter, sent before he was replaced as foreign secretary in the cabinet reshuffle, said: “As per the Genocide Convention, the crime of genocide occurs only where there is specific ‘intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group’. The government has not concluded that Israel is acting with that intent.”
I have been a staunch supporter of Labour ever since they were elected but I cannot support their stance on this…September 9, 2025 at 05:12 #1739630This party honestly isn’t Labour any more.
September 9, 2025 at 07:25 #1739632Whilst I don’t want to see them go, purely because the realistic alternatives are by some margin even worse, I have no idea what this Government is trying to achieve. As far as I can tell, they are constantly trying to appease a right wing that doesn’t want to be appeased and even if it did, still wouldn’t vote for them anyway. Meanwhile, it’s abandoned not only those who put them in power but people like me who didn’t vote for them but were nonetheless glad they won and had some hope that they’d manage something positive.
Labour needs to change direction and do it fast. It’s probably already too late as they’ve burned so much goodwill but carrying on like this is no way to govern. At least try something different.
September 9, 2025 at 16:19 #1739642It was much easier for Blair to sit on the middle ground in 97 as despite all the sleaze and financial errors of the early 90s the coffers were full when the Tories left , I don’t think Starmer has an issue being unliked , the problem is that this isnt a quick patch job it’s going to take years and years to fix this mess

September 9, 2025 at 17:50 #1739645I think they planned to paper over the cracks ( of which there are many) first term and go radical second term. But the way things are going there won’t be a second term.
September 9, 2025 at 18:44 #1739649However, in a letter to the chair of the international development committee last week Lammy said that an assessment carried out by the Foreign Office had concluded that Israel’s actions did not constitute genocide.
‘Genocide’ – like ‘poverty’ – is an emotive word, the meaning of which is open to interpretation and has exercised the minds of many since the wholly accurate description of it when applied to the extermination of European Jews in WW2; but notwithstanding that, this unequivocal dismissing of it regarding Gaza is shameful, and I hope history judges Lammy et al accordingly.
If what’s occuring in Gaza is a genocide then it is surely even worse than that: a genocidal siege, in which the inhabitants are not only being bombed and starved but also have no means of escape, with the borders being closed. Comparison with the Siege of Leningrad in which half the population of 3 million died is not unreasonable I feel.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Leningrad
Following the bombing in Qatar today and ‘promises’ from Netanyahu that assaults on Gaza are to intensify with the goal being complete occupation I fear we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
September 9, 2025 at 18:51 #1739650If Trump really has backed him the strikes on Qatar then the relationship between the US/Qatar is def going to be strained , surely there has to come a point when Israel overstep the mark

September 11, 2025 at 11:56 #1739737Ouch …. another one bites the dust as Mandelson sacked over his association with Epstein!
How many times was he forced to resign from Blair’s government before they packed him off to Brussels?
And the cherry on top for Starmer & Labour, Merck have announced the scrapping of £1 billion R & D centre citing government policies.
good luck to allSeptember 11, 2025 at 12:24 #1739739Well this new term has turned into a complete circus I’m not sure how much longer this clown can remain in power.
The more I know the less I understand.
September 11, 2025 at 13:11 #1739743Cant wait to have Lammy at the wheel, all that cash Reeves will have to find for our terrible past
September 11, 2025 at 15:01 #1739756I think many people have forgotten how catastrophic the Conservatives were for a lot of their 14 years in power ( which the country is still attempting to recover from).
September 14, 2025 at 11:33 #173996314 years?
We haven’t had a properly leftwing government since 1979. New Labour were just Tory Lite.

September 14, 2025 at 13:07 #1739980Labour in the ’70’s ….I remember them …. the country went bankrupt!
Thornberry says she asked for Mandelson to appear before the Foreign Affairs committee to answer questions and was denied the opportunity by the Foreign Office … now we know why.
Starmer could have saved himself a lot of trouble and the UK from embarrassment by getting the vetting right.I now hear he’s blaming Mandelson for not being candid …. isn’t the vetting process, done properly, supposed to uncover such deceit?
good luck to allSeptember 14, 2025 at 15:07 #1739994The country did not go bankrupt – it had to seek a loan from the IMF, which is not the same thing.
More disinformation from the right.
