Good prize money on offer at Taunton again tomorrow. Decent competitive fields.

Meanwhile Nicky Henderson and Alan King break rank at Huntingdon with runners in more than one sub-tarriff races.

The Hunter Chase at Huntingdon is worth £750 to the winner. I know it’s for hunters but when was the last time a race was run for as little as that on a UK racecourse?

However you want to look at it…in these troubled times..on the back of a month of poor weather…for only three runners to turn up for a Tuesday afternoon Novice chase worth £5,692 to the winner, it’s very poor.

Similar story at Musselburgh on Sunday when three runners turned up for a Class 3 Novice Chase worth £7,806 to the winner.

Same story at Bangor on Friday when three runners turned up for a Class 3 Novice Chase worth £6,337 to the winner.

Doesn’t reflect massively possitively on the Horseman’s Group does it ?

If these races are going to attract such low numbers, can they not be dropped to Class 4..because the prize money is obviously of no consequence ? Put the money into Novice hurdles instead, as these attract better sized fields and therefore worthy of better returns.

Cavelino Rampante – Can racing be trusted to run the Tote ? They’ve not exactly made a roaring success of it to-date have they ?

Seems to me that the Champion Stakes is too close to the Breeders Cup for the top 10 furlong horses to get involved anyway. Recent fields have not exactly been ‘Champion’ have they ? Is there a positibility that a move/reschedule could actually create a positive impact to the ‘pattern’ ? The Champion Stakes in its current form doesn’t really capture the immagination from where I’m sitting.

Sold Timeform to Betfair, CR ? Made a few quid there I would imagine.

Since when has Jim McGrath been a voice of the people ? He’s never really considered the ‘people’ in the past as far as I can see.

What’s so bad about moving the Champions Day to Ascot anyway ? 12000 attended the last renewal at the home of racing. There will probably be 3 times that figure at Ascot. Does that not tell its own story ?

Maybe it’s because they re-allocate the income from the picture-rights back into the prize money pot, rather than the share holders just pocketting it ?

Surprised to see Rewilding rated so high. What rating has been given to Snow Fairy ?

The originator of this thread should post a full apology.

Is it really worthwhile comparing UK and HK racing though ? They have three meetings a week (if that) and there are far fewer betting opportunities (competition) over there.

For it to work, I think you need to leave the cameras running when the Jockeys have left the room so we can listen to the Stewards’ interpretation of the evidence the Jockeys have just supplied.

It’s funny how the figures actually explode the pre-conceptions. The fact that drifters from the likes of Evan Williams, Richard Hannon and Richard Guest (!) aren’t totally doomed to failure.

Ginger, if your tissue is influenced by market moves, what’s the value in doing a tissue in the first place ? Isn’t the whole point of a tissue, the seperation from what’s happening on the wider market in the search for value. If you follow the market, aren’t you losing sight of this to an extent ?

I am enjoying this thread. It certainly strikes a chord with me after backing John Gosden’s Space War last Wednesday at Newmarket at about 6/1 ten minutes before post time, and then seeing it double the price five minutes later. It obviously ran a stinker.

Are the high street firms getting involved here I wonder ? Hedging on the exchanges against the backdrop of their big over-rounds in the shops ? Arbing basically.

    "Emma Ramsden is vile"

What you walk upto her in the street and say that ? I very much doubt it, so you shouldn’t say it on here. Very poor.

Perhaps it would be more equitable to take the fixtures off those tracks that are most reliant on owners and the Levy board for funding ?

    http://www.racehorseowners.net/league_table.html

By my calculations from June 1st 2009 to May 31st 2010, Wolverhampton have hosted 97 meetings. According to the ROA website, Arena Leisure has contributed £60,096 towards prize money for those meetings. That works out at £619 a meeting. I don’t know how much Wolverhampton are getting for their picture rights for each meeting, but it must be more than £619 surely ?!…so where is that money going ?
