David (cormack15) has been kind enough to let me introduce the relaunch of thorobase.com[/url:xqqsitnt].
I’ve rebuilt thorobase to index the best horse racing videos on the ‘net today.
You can search for videos of your favorite horses and races, and browse around to discover some great new racing clips.
I’ve (hopefully) incorporated some really cool features to help you find the best racing videos available, like:
[list:xqqsitnt]
[*:xqqsitnt]* a powerful search bar that allows you find the videos you want to watch.
[/*:m:xqqsitnt]
[*:xqqsitnt]* a simple, clean layout to quickly view the latest and most popular videos in the thorobase video index.
[/*:m:xqqsitnt]
[*:xqqsitnt]* deep social network integration so that you can like, share and tweet about your favorite racing videos on Facebook and Twitter.
[/*:m:xqqsitnt]
[*:xqqsitnt]* a really clever and understandable URL system so you can always remember and share your favorite video pages.thorobase.com/horse/sea-the-stars[/url:xqqsitnt]
thorobase.com/race/prix-de-larc-de-triomphe[/url:xqqsitnt]
thorobase.com/race/prix-de-larc-de-triomphe/1965[/url:xqqsitnt]
thorobase.com/series/breeders-cup[/url:xqqsitnt]
thorobase.com/track/curragh[/url:xqqsitnt][/*:m:xqqsitnt][/list:u:xqqsitnt]You can read about all the features and how to use the new site on the first blog post[/url:xqqsitnt].
As always, the site is free and without ads, and I appreciate any feedback you can give. Right now, the site is a little US racing heavy but as I build the index, more and more European races will come in.
I hope you get as much fun out of watching great horse racing videos at thorobase.com[/url:xqqsitnt] as I had in building it.
Thanks, Robin
January 17, 2011 at 21:33 #336460An excellent horseracing resource.
Clean and functional and easy to navigate. Very well done indeed.I’ve added it to "bookmarks".
January 17, 2011 at 22:15 #336471Agreed. Looking forward to spending an evening there.
Btw, if anyone looking in has never seen Secretariat’s demolition of Sham in the 1973 Belmont (pictured above), you want to take a look at it. Apparently, after a record breaking 1m 4f, the great horse was getting even
faster
as he passed the winning post. A magnificent video. Can’t wait to see the film.

I saw it last week and it is very watchable. Not as schmaltzy as Seabiscuit and, even more so, Phar Lap.
I never tire of watching Harbingers KG. A great resource. Thx.January 18, 2011 at 00:10 #336497

If ever there was a race I could watch over and over again, the ’73 Belmont is it. An astonishing performance from an astonishing horse; and he did it in a canter.
I just wish I’d been alive at the time.
January 18, 2011 at 18:21 #336576Very glad you all like it!
I’ve added some videos today including Arkle’s ’64 Gold Cup vs Mill House, Galileo vs Fantastic Light in the King George, and much missed Electrocutionist’s wide margin victory in the 2006 Dubai World Cup.
If you want to receive updates, including a list of the latest videos added to the thorobase video index, you can sign up at this form.
Thanks, Robin

Not as schmaltzy as Seabiscuit and, even more so, Phar Lap.
Please explain what you feel is so schmaltzy about Phar Lap?
Keep up the good work Robin.
January 20, 2011 at 15:12 #336849Just to let you all know, I’ve added subscription support and you’ll receive an email like this one that lists and links to all the latest videos added to the thorobase video library.

Nothing against Phar Lap. All racing films are usually crass and insulting to the viewer. Ever see the film ‘Shergar’? Ian Holm I believe was in it. Did the horse’s life really end when he jumped off a cliff with his handler, to get away from the bad guys? Really? Puhleeze

It was the dramatisation generally, did the AJC really have a vendetta against the horse? So much so that they would refer to the horse –IT’S PHAP LAP! THE HORSE’S NAME IS PHAR LAP!
– as a freak? Sorry, I don’t buy the whole vendetta thing at all. I would rather see the story as it
actually
happened, without the silly dramatization.
January 20, 2011 at 16:10 #336863Are there not copyright issues here ?
It’s YouTube hosted content. If an uploader wishes their videos not to be embedded, they can choose not to (as RUK often do – the videos are still linked to and viewable at youtube.com).
If a content owner believes their copyright has been infringed, they can have the offending content removed from YouTube by using the appropriate Google channels.
