Taken from the trainers website.
Al Roc runs in the veterans chase at 3.10pm with Philip Armson on board. This is a much more suitable race for him with and even though he is the outside of the four runner field I would not be surprised to see him run okay. He will love the quicker ground and a return to 2m4f. He has run quite a lot of times but he really does not do much at home – he has a morning swim and then spends the rest of the day in the field, he loves his daily routine and is a very happy horse.
The stable would presumably know him best.
I’m interested in what posters think about the Pipe juvenile pair, Titian and Kolisi. Both ex William Haggas horses who showed good ability on the flat and cost £155k and £55k respectively last Autumn. After a number of poor showings both now handicapped over hurdles at just 88 and 85. Maybe there’s a long term plan. But they have both been pretty useless this year as juvenile hurdlers. I honestly thought Titian would be a Boodles type at the least.
With Sunak and Hancock in racing constituencies, you’d expect some kind of government bail out when the well eventually runs dry. The Welsh assembly have set aside some money for Welsh horseracing today I noticed. For me the idea of restricting Cheltenham races to ‘locals’ is a bit too unsporting, even allowing for these unique times.
Champions Day at Hamilton ?
I am sure Gibralter will be looking at ways of keeping these firms on their premises. Reductions in business tax rates for example.
How on earth has this topic got to four pages ? The sensationalist title of the subject sets the tone.
The racecourses have zero incentive to put on good quality cards on a Sunday because they’ll get decent crowds providing they can come up with a gimmick like a race for Football Mascots.
This is why there’s no decent racing on a Sunday.
Why put on a few listed races on, or a heritage handicap at £30k a pop, when they can fill the card with £2k claimers and Class 6 handicaps, and still get the same numbers through the gates ?
Who are the two Alan out of interest ?
I presume Marco Botti is one ?
Is there anywhere on the internet where I can get a breakdown of what the courses receive from Turf TV/SIS from their picture rights (per race) ?
One final question if you don’t mind…do you have a longer-term vision on how the Tote could compete with the established exchanges in terms of their turnover levels ?
Do you feel there is space in the market for a Tote-run betting exchange ?
Thank you for your opinion on the Tote bets available on course. We will be looking at the liquidity in the pool, working with international partners and working on marketing. One of the first things we want to do is to sit with the current staff and throw some ideas around. We believe the pool is a sleeping giant and we are really excited by it. We are full of ideas for the pool, we now just need to discuss them, then start putting them into practice.
It is my opinion that there are far too many bets available on-course from the Tote. The offering is far too complicated to the average Joe.
Do you agree with me that the offering should be streamlined..and the ‘core’ product better marketted thereafter ?

Straight ForecastI would suggest that slips for Jackpots, Quadpots and Swingers just confuses less experienced punters.
The horse is clearly OK and will run.
Fresh from his "I am worried about Workforce" last week, it’s another put-away job by Sir Michael. Hopefully his men have got what they need on at 4s and 9/2 and we can get back to dealing in facts.
How can a horse be injured on a Tuesday and cantering up the Newmarket gallops by Thursday ?
Incredible to think these guys are not paying levy. No wonder the game is on its arse.
Choisir winning two Royal Ascot sprints in a week and just failing to give Oasis Dream 5lbs from the worst draw in the July Cup must put him up there.
In an era where prize money levels are being continually questioned, it does make you wonder how trainers can justify to their owners not having horses ready for these types of races. Even if you don’t think you can beat So You Think, you’re running on good ground against Campanologist and Famous Name for £34,396.55 (2nd) and £16,293.10 (3rd) place money. That’s more than you’d get for winning most Group 3s.
Neither option can really be considered good for racing, can it ?
I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that Broughton conditionally pledged to float the Tote on the Stock Market, 24hrs after he’d secured it.A privately run Tote could actually be good for racing in one sense. The current Tote is a white elephant in many respects; or a shadow of what it could be at least. However since neither party has made public their ‘profit return to racing’ model, it’s obviously going to be a disaster for the sport.
Ricky, you’re jumping on a bandwagon here. Nowhere does the article suggest that owners will be forced to use these colours. I don’t think RFC would be so stupid as to force Pearl Bloodstock or Godolphin to wear anything they don’t want to.
The silks have been designed by students. I’m sure any owner has the option to use the design if they wish. I like some of them; they’re not too dissimilar to some of the designs you might see in the US or Japan.
Why not treat it for what it is, and not what you want it to be (so you can then moan about it) ?
