An animal weighing a few hundred kilos wouldn’t even notice carrying an extra 20lbs, let alone a fraction of that.
Dont say stupid things that simply defy the laws of physics. an olympic runner would not be able to run as fast with a single kilo of dead weight on its back, why should a horse. the point is it is dead weight not an extra few pounds of muscle and so yes it does make a difference. otherwise as someone above me has pointed out handicaps could be run off level weights and the result would still be the same and sir mark could still run up a string of wins with horses who have run 3 times over too short.
sorry if im being facetious.
History Boy – 8.20 Wolverhampton, short enough but deserving of it
ah, thank you for that, much appreciated, still fairly new to all this. only really my 3rd full season following racing seriously you live and learn.
that was last time, this time 15 lb difference so 8lb swing?
Gardasee 9.4 minus 3lb claim 9.1
Kylkenny 8.13 minus 5lb claim 8.8difference of 7lb or are we reading a different script?
it was actually 7 last time, but yes i agree with you, read literally should still have no chance, not that anything will be carrying my money in the race
correct me if im wrong but its a 7 pound swing in the weights
oh and best of luck of course
Thats fair enough and in that case I can see the merits of the class argument. but I would still say the horse has to be as competent or more so than the other animal. it may only choose to show its full potential when challenged head on in such a situation but it must have the raw ability there to start with!
Black Jack Ketchum, hes just so good on the bit until recently it hasnt mattered!
im afraid im with RH on this one andyod. you cant say the horses outclassed the 2nd placed horses in those american races. what you are effectively arguing is that street sense is the best horse but isnt classy enough? I can’t accept that. if you were to say curlin were classier and improved and had more ability then ok but not he was inferior in physical terms but classier.
i dont know about the filly – colt thing. Im not sure I understand your argument regards class. your saying curlin beat street sense because he had more class even though he was less competent and rags to riches beat curlin for the same reason? or have I misunderstood you completly?
i thought he got a very good ride in the derby, he was ridden to get second from the moment authorized flew as there was no way anything was going to catch him so you cant criticise the ride. he has strong claims admittedly on the form book. But with 3yo only races i dont believe you can ever take the form book purely at face value unless it is seriously outstanding. Id rather lay at the prices as I believe that one or more will improve significantly.
It was my impression that SoF was an intended runner at the Curragh this weekend or have I missed something?
my apologies my posting was a little rushed earlier, technically supposed to be at work, was really more after others opinions on the subject.
I just don’t think he’s good enough, I could be proven wrong but my impression is that he was a precocious individual, further forward than most and is less open to improvement than to some of the horses in the race. If he was really an odds-on chance why would O’Brien be going in mob handed again.
I know, and mores the pity!!
