Is it just me or is irridescence a massive price at 11/2? I mean Nannina is a deserving favourite and could well win but i thought De Kocks horse would be closer in the market. Opinions?

If you fancy it for God’s sake don’t take the 11/2, it’s nearly 8/1 on Betfair
July 11, 2007 at 11:10 #107304unfortunately i cant get on betfair at work
July 11, 2007 at 11:12 #107306The horse won a 2YO maiden over a mile but has done all her suqsequent winning over further. I don’t know the form too well, but I am wondering if the mile is going to be on the sharp side for her if the ground continues to dry out ?
Fresh from collecting on Notnowcato; the Each-Way thieves will be out to play on this one I’d imagine.

Unfortunately only 2 places with Speciosa a NR but you can get 5/4 first 3 on Betfair.
July 11, 2007 at 11:48 #107315Irresdence’s connections have already stated that the mile might be a bit sharp (10f is her prefreed trip) and also that the Falmouth is merely a warm-up for a big Gr1 in Canada shortly so if the going gets tough and it comes down to a scrap, she might be "saved" for the big day.
July 11, 2007 at 11:48 #107316I know the Guineas form hasn’t really worked out but I think Arch Swing has a really good chance. She’d have been a clear second at Ascot with an uninterruppted passage. Nannina sets the standard, but it is a sub-standard for a Group 1 so I think there is every chance something less exposed with progress past her.
July 11, 2007 at 12:15 #107324De Kock is quoted in the RP saying they would be very satisfied if she finished in the first 4.
July 11, 2007 at 12:29 #107326Strongly fancy Nannina for this. The field isn’t as strong as last years renewal when she was second ro Rajeem and the drying ground will be in her favour.
Three-year olds have a great record in this. My pick of the 3YO litter would have to be Simply Perfect. Ran Dutch Art closer than most as a 2YO before completing the May Hill / Fillies Mile double. Back to her preferred distance after great third on her seasonal debut in the Guineas and failing to stay in the Oaks. She’s fresh and open to improvement.
I’m talking myself into backing her…
July 11, 2007 at 12:44 #107329There may not be much pace on, similar to last year but presumably, Nannina will be ridden closer to the pace this time.
If the stalls are on the far side, is it reasonable to assume they will race up the far rail?

I had a look at the race last night and figured, even with Speciosa unlikely, that there are enough prominent runners to ensure a decent pace.
If that is so, I can’t really see Nannina getting beaten.July 11, 2007 at 12:55 #107334There’s no obvious pace to the race. It’s a shame Speciosa is a NR because she would have ensured a decent gallop.
I think you will see both Nannina and Irridescence ridden handy – the question is how quick? If they don’t go a decent clip it will play into the hooves of the 3YO fillies.
July 11, 2007 at 13:08 #107337I think your spot on with that, any lack of pace would not suit nannina at all, she ultimatly could go further. I wouldnt be surprised to see irridescence try and make it, she needs it to be as much about stamina as she can make it.

Agreed. Bahia Breeze, Irridescence, Nannina and Sweet Lilly have all performed well or won over further than a mile (9 – 10F). Yet, while some do ride up close to the pace, there’s no obvious front runner. The remainder like to be held up. Should be interesting.
July 11, 2007 at 13:26 #107342A typical ‘headache’ race with stakes to be kept to a minimum in my opinion.
Nannina is the one to be on, but only if the pace is quick enough for her. If there isn’t a fast pace then I think the race would be wide open, though I still fancy Nannina to prevail.
Far more interesting for me is the Cherry Hinton. I think Youresothrilling will take the world of beating to be honest, as I think the form of the Albany is slightly better than that of the Queen Mary that the 2nd and 3rd favs contested.
I also like the chances of Champfleurie because the Swinbank team remain in great form. I am just about to log on and have a win bet.
Good luck all.

July 11, 2007 at 13:27 #107343RH,
Johnny G said before the Windsor Forest that he felt Nannina was better over a mile and a quarter and that her seasonal target is the Nassau, (in which she was honorably beaten by Ouija last year). She was also beaten in this last year and she actually never looked like winning at any stage. And no winner of the Windsor Forest so far has gone on to take the Falmouth.
Saying that, I can’t find a reliable angle in the race – I’ve thrown forlorn tenners at the Noseda and Channon fillies – so best of luck.

It may well be that she is as good over 10f as a mile, but she won her last 1m race very comfortably, and off only an ordinary pace. We’ll know soon.
