Very impressive performance by George Washington. He’s got tons of ability and I’m really looking forward to watching him (hopefully barring injury) throughout the season.
I must admit, I’d be surprised if he managed to stay unbeaten this season, not through lack of ability but because he likes to come from off the pace. I could easily see him getting alot of traffic problems in the big mile races like the sussex stakes or the QEII for example.

Lets hope they all get there.
Add Shawanda and Ouija Board to that list and you’ve got a cracker! :)
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that all of the top horses will remain injury free during the season. Every year injuries sideline top horses.
That was a great performance by Electrocutionist considering his bad draw. It looks like he’ll be involved in the major 1m 2f races during the season hopefully along with David Junior.
Lets hope they stay injury free.
I’ve backed L’Ami & War Of Attrition. Plus, I’ve had a little each-way bet on Lord Of Illusion.
I know L’Ami would prefer softer going but he’s been very consistant this season and the trainer knows what it takes to win this race.
War Of Attrition is an unexposed horse in the field if he stays the trip he has a good chance.
Lord Of Illusion is a good each-way bet in an open race.
I haven’t put much money on so I’m not overly fussed if I haven’t picked the winner. It’s going to be a very interesting race to watch and I must admit I think I’ll be keeping an eye on Iris’s Gift & Beef Or Salmon for the the first part of the race. So much has been written about both of them over the past couple of months.
Celestial Gold will probably be a big drifter for the Gold Cup now.
There is no comparison between Iris’s Gift and Gloria Victis. GV was one of the most exciting novice chasers that we had ever seen and had a top class field strung out behind him in the 2000 Gold Cup before his sad fall. IG is a dodgy jumper and looks a little one paced over fences, even though this years Gold Cup field is looking the weakest in terms of quality that I have seen, I can’t see him being good enough.
On the flat I’ve always liked Sheikh Mohammad’s maroon & white colours & Sheikh Hamdan’s blue & white (Dayjur, Nashwan, Salsabil).
Also, I like the colours that were carried famously by Cigar & Arazi.
Over the jumps, I liked the colours carried by Waterloo Boy & Another Coral. Plus, the colours carried by Large Action as well.
Nicky Henderson training the injury prone See You Then to win three Champion Hurdles was impressive.
He was a fine chaser who will be greatly missed, it’s a sad day for racing.

I must admit I didn’t realise just how highly regarded George Washington is. I mean, for Aidan O’Brien to say he is the best two year old he’s ever trained is a very big statement considering the juvenile’s he’s trained in the past like Johanesburg, Hawk Wing, Rock Of Gibralter & Fasliev.
I wonder if he’ll have a runner in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile this year.
I think even with the bad draw it’s hard to see Silent Witness being beaten.
Although it will never happen, it would be great if connections sent him to the Breeders Cup to take on the unbeaten Lost In The Fog in the sprint.
I really hope he does prove to be as good over fences as he was over hurdles because at least then Kicking King would actually have an opponent who could give him a race.
On last years evidence KK has very few challengers for the major 3m+ chases this year.
I’m really looking forward to seeing IG over fences this season, fingers crossed with an injury free season.
If he can transfer his top class hurdling form to fences then he can go right to the top.
That was the most exciting race that I have seen for a long time, it was an absalute pleasure to watch.
I have to confess that I was convinced before the race that Azertyuiop was going to win, for some reason I have always underated Moscow Flyer, but not any more!
IMHO there were no excuses whatsoever for any of the beaten horses, MF was just too good for them, just like he was last year. MF’s superior jumping ability makes a huge difference around Sandown and Azertyuiop could never get on terms with him because of it.
If Moscow Flyer was a younger horse I would say that if the two of them both stayed on there feet in the Champion Chase the result would be the same again. However, I don’t know the records for 11 year olds winning the Champion Chase but surely they are not very good. I’d also have to say that I think Azertyuiop is a better horse at that time of year so I still fancy him to reverse the placings come Cheltenham.
Although, there is every chance MF could prove me wrong again just like he did yesterday! :)
I also have to mention Well Chief, I thaught he ran a cracking race and I reckon he is a better horse around Cheltenham so there is no way I am going to rule him out of the Champion Chase picture.
I’ve seen it before with all of the top 2m chasers that when they get to the age of 10+ they are always vunerable to a young improving chaser.
As alot of other people have said time is not on Moscow Flyer’s side.
I think that would be an easy victory for Smarty Jones. :)
Thinking about it, it wouldn’t have been beyond the realms of possibility that Giant’s Causway could have beaten both Montjeu and Dubai Millenium over 1m 2f. He’s probably the toughest horse to beat that I have watched on the flat.
