I don’t miss the large gobby bloke, and apparently, according to a vote on the racing post site neither do most other people. 65% don’t want to see anymore of him, personally I could just do with hearing a lot less.
Real up and down day in every sense of the word for AP wasn’t it, after a fall anything like that first one I’m sure I’d be heading for my bed (and I’ve ridden for years so I’ve had a corker or two), you can’t help but be impressed with someone going on to give another horse a ride like that one on Alberta’s Run. Hope he can ride tomorrow, he was practically hopping off the course after the Song of Songs fall.
Is there any news on WA’s wellbeing after the race? I think the jockey said he wasn’t right when he pulled up and I thought he looked a little sore. Hope he’s ok and all four legs are in good nick.
That’s the first I’d heard of Katchit, not good news. Lovely little horse, hope he makes a full recovery. Big Buck’s was awesome and I was so glad to see him win like that- about time a good thing came out and did the business at this festival!
I really want to see Kauto win tomorrow. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for him and Ruby.
It was obvious from the camera shot which unavoidably kept him in sight longer than the programme controllers would have probably preferred that there was unlikely to be good news on Citizen Vic. I would have guessed neck or spinal injury.

Racing programmes that waste too much time focusing on the spectators- Royal Ascot is of course most guilty of this- I detest the fashion pieces taking time away from looking at the horses in the pre-parade ring. But Channel 4 keep taking in the folk kicking about the stands too!
While I am pleased that the ground is good as it bodes well for Kauto’s chances come Friday, I am uneasily aware that the faster it gets tht worse it is for serious injuries and fatalities. Here’s hoping the future runners come back safe.
Wow, AP was pretty chuffed wasn’t he? I can’t remember last time I’ve actually seen him KISS a horse after a race!

For me that was all about Niche Market today. I think both Denman & McCoy expected to be miles away by the time they got to that fence & I think that horse coming at them took them by surprise.
Couldn’t agree with this more. Look at how Denman beat this horse in the Henessy, here he was right behind him at level weights? He was coming back at him when Denman made his first mistake. Leaving AP aside if I may, I say use Niche Market as a marker, this was not the same Denman we saw last time. Maybe that weight carrying performance really took it out of him after all?
February 12, 2010 at 17:25 in reply to: How many chasers have fallen compared to hurdlers last 10yrs #275881Bear in mind that horses often start their careers over hurdles so for some their jumping in general can be a work in progress. Often by the time they are chasing they have more experience and confidence about jumping obstacles at racing speed. Also that jumps actually look more imposing whereas hurdles can be less respected- so there may be more instances of them ‘tripping up’ a horse that’s being careless.
That poor scoop 6 punter…!!
Still nice to see such a great run from an old favourite!
Walsh said he felt like the horse would win most of the way around and then suddenly emptied. Something wrong inside? Poor thing looked very sad and exhausted when being walked back to the box.
I noticed that the horse’s foreleg appeared crooked below the knee but thought I must have imagined it- he had got up and seemed to be trying to run when the shot changed back to the leaders on channel 4. Hope he was caught and kept quiet so that his end was as fast and peaceful as possible.
Very sad, particularly as the error leading the fatal injury was not his own and he was brought down. I hope the mare and I’m so lucky are alright.Best thing I’ve seen on tv any christmas in a great many years!

Another fan, delighted to see him do well today, he was my phantom bet of the day. Nice looking horse, has shown a lot of promise, hopefully on the comeback trail. Lovely ride by Mr Lee too.
I thought it was unacceptable behaviour. They tried to stop them as soon as they could and as said, it wasn’t safe to run a finish with the body of a horse in the way… some people have no consideration outside themselves. Not a nice sight.
