I had a lump in my throat when they talked to the girl with Well Chief- was great to see him back, rolled back the years for me, did a brilliant job. Hopefully he stays sound and races again soon!
What a shock- this was such a lovely looking horse, exactly the type of ex racehorse I would some day love to own.
I found out late and am just so sad he is gone.
It was clear there wasn’t going to be much that could be done for this lovely horse from the moment he got up, his foreleg looked shattered- for once we got some clear pictures from of such an accident on tv because of the angle they were filming at. I am not sure myself whether the injury came on take off or landing as he jumped very low, the jump itself looked very off to me, and fell in a heap. Very, very sad.
I am so sorry about this one, I was following this horse and really hoped he’d been saved when he was not on this page yesterday.
Think it’s the first time I’ve seen him and I really liked the look of him down at the start, lovely type, and I’m a sucker for a flashy chestnut. That neck should come in handy if he keeps sticking it out like that!
I was hoping to find out what had happened to Blue Splash, that’s why I came here today, though I wish the news had been better. I was watching at home and heard the commentator mention a nasty scene in front of the stands. I am so sorry this happened to him. Poor fella and I’m so sorry for his lass.

Horrible sight to see, he clearly suffered a severe leg injury and there was no hope, even the commentator knew that at the time on 4, didn’t know what to say.
Such a sad loss. The injury became apparent on the flat for anyone wondering, didn’t seem directly connected to jumping at all.
I remember one called ‘In the know’, I’m sure, but I’ve not seen it for a while now.. does anyone else remember it?
I need the winner please! I’ve been so busy with my course work and my job that I’ve not had a chance to look. Very poor so would be soooo grateful for the help!
My best ever performance was 1st, 3rd and 4th of my 6 horses backed. I think it was Minnehoma’s national.
Broken shoulder, just not fixable. So sad, such a promising little horse.
Glad to see him win, even though I would have bet against him. Racing needs heros!
Winner of the Gold Cup, a massive bonus and the Order of Merit as well.
Shame that the final fence shot that Channel 4 insisted on replaying was no where near as pleasing on the eye as War of Attritions effort last year (or Taranis this years), it didn’t do him much credit, he seemed to jump very well most of the way, undulating ground and stiff fences or not!
I don’t KNOW that he’s a superstar, but blimey I hope he is. Racing can always use a hero!
He’s looked sooo impressive.
Can anyone tell me which other good horses that currently excel at 2 miles were missing from this tingle creek line up? I’m just trying to picture who’ll be in the queen mother at cheltenham. If there are no significant others that weren’t in the Tingle Creek Nicholls could put Kauto Star in that for a warm up! :o
Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but an amazing thought isn’t it!
Funny that I should stumble across this thread now- Richard Davis is the Jockey that Sean Magee had been preparing to write about, in a book about the life of the ‘ordinary’ jump jockey.
Of course he was killed while the idea was still being discussed. The book went ahead with another jockey, Guy Lewis. I can recommend it to any racing fan with any interest in what goes on ‘behind the scenes’. The parts about Richard are hard going though, very sad.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Win-Just-Once-Journeyman-Jockey/dp/0747220441/sr=8-2/qid=1164573291/ref=sr_1_2/026-0556607-0871611?ie=UTF8&s=books
Does anyone else remember a bay filly or mare called Aude la Belle?
She was a little scrawny thing with a roman nose, probably the least good looking TB I’ve seen in a long time, I think her name meant something like Oh what a beauty! I remember her cos the commentators sorta laughed at her and I felt sorry for her. At least the poor gal had character!
Never forgotten a horse named Nos na gaoithe. I don’t think he ever got famous but I loved to see and hear about him because I found out his name meant ‘Like the Wind’.
Also was fond of Strong Promise because he was such a big, beautiful dark horse. Was so upset when he died (at Aintree I believe?).
Finally, more famous, I loved Gloria Victis. Won’t ever forget him, he was just so exciting to watch. I backed him in the Gold Cup each way but didn’t see the race till that night. It was horrific to see him fall and I couldn’t believe they couldn’t save him.
