Pretty sick of it myself now. Never realised how much I loved the King George this time of year until after boxing day- very depressed! :(

He was a really big horse wasn’t he- so impressive, so much potential. Absolutely gutting to realise we won’t get to see him again. :(

A piccie still online of him:

I’m not the biggest flat fan but am following it even more distantly this year because we seem to have no potential superstar waiting in the wings yet. That’s always the biggest thrill, seeing the next potential wonder horse!

Fatal injury in the Totesport.com Derby Trial Stakes (Group 3) 1m3½f, won by Bullet Train. Looked like a catastrophic break on the lower foreleg.

I’m far from convinced that Queally’s actions were unintentional. I think he realised he was being done and decided that a drift might stop the winner’s momentum. I don’t blame him for that, it was his only option and he had to take his chance that he wouldn’t be demoted. We see professional fouls all the time in football and some are penalised and some not. On this occasion he tried to block the winner and paid the price. C’est la vie.

That would certainly explain why he made what appeared to be an almost suicidal move, not that I like to think that of the jockey.

Didn’t hav a bet and wouldn’t have been on either of the first two home if I had, but wow, I felt for Henry Cecil and the owner of the original winner, and her poor lass who was so clearly delighted. Horrible moment for them.

Watching the head on I could not understand why the jockey pulled his whip through to the wrong hand AT ALL. The JQ filly was going straight until he switched it, when he hit her on that side she ran away from it and towards her rival Special Duty. Then he continued to ride with it in the wrong hand- making himself vulnerable to just this decision. I am sure he must be kicking himself now, but why oh why did he do it!!!

I cannot understand why the jockey on the just disqualified winner pulled his whip through to the ‘wrong’ hand! I honestly think if he hadn’t they would have got it and kept it!

This is one racing picture which has always fascinated me:

    http://www.championsgallery.com/Savage.jpg

It’s ‘The Savage’- Great Prospector biting at Golden Derby in the 1980 tremont stakes. I just think it’s very dramatic and an incredibly rare moment to catch with a camera.

Gloria Victis- would you believe I just found the newspaper cuttings I saved from the build up to the Gold cup and the reports on ‘triumph and tragedy’ the day after, along with my betting slip, in the garage yesterday? I’ll never forget that horse.

Eight Belles is a tragic case, and the footage is all too freely available online, heartbreaking.

Dawn Run’s untimely death is another that comes to mind.

:x This makes me so angry, has any action been taken over the stroller being in such a ****y stupid and not even allowed place? Connections must be both devastated and furious.

The only entire horse I remember watching over fences was Knife Edge. I’m pretty sure he was still a stallion when he was running in JP’s colours. I have been told that most horses over fences are gelded because they are reluctant to.. um… give their private area a battering over the brush fences when still in possession of all their equipment? Has anyone else heard this one and is there any truth in it?

This was on the news the other night, it sounded really horrific. His wife was held at knife point and he was forced to get the cash out of the safe with a gun against his head. He says he tried to offer them a couple of thousand and they were really insistant on more. He said he really believes that if there hadn’t been a decent amount of cash in the safe the men would have killed them both.

I prefer the jumps to the flat and actually, welfare comes into it for me! I think a lot of times the flat horses can simply be worth too much. With a mind to breeding they are so often coddled, kept boxed and legs wrapped and all sorts and rarely if ever turned out to just be horses. They are just too valuable to risk an injury in the paddocks, and I think as a result they can find their lifestyle stressful.

I like the fact that many more National Hunt horses, often being geldings so without breeding value, get to live more normal lives, turned out and taken hunting and hacked out and all sorts!

A horse that loves jumping over these big fences is an absolute joy to watch. I love following the horses from season to season- these are the ones that take to their jobs and suit it.

He has to win Sports Personality of the Year now surely. Also so glad to hear all runners and riders have come back safely. :D

Seconded. I would love to see him win this year. He’s been at the top for so long, so few sportsmen maintain such a record and he’s worked so hard for it. Lets not forget that despite their hiccup he gave Denman a fantastic ride to get 2nd in the Gold cup this year!

OK, I cried! That was so deserved and he was just so thrilled. I was ecstatic, especially on hearing that the horses were ok. I also picked out the 2nd and 4th home, along with Irish Raptor, so a good day for me considering I’ve failed to get a horse home last few attempts! Shame with a new puppy in the house I never had the time to get to a bookies! :)

CONGRATULATIONS AP and JP! Two people who have given so much for the sport. And well done Jonjo, the hoodoo finally laid to rest.

    B****Y FANTASTIC!!! :D

With mug shots. Very amusing comments from those involved though, although you could argue is no laughing matter.

Hope the horse that pulled up injured is going to be OK.
