Independence, an intact full brother to Bold Ruler raced for 8 years over fences and then had a long stud career. He won the 1961 American Grand National. Ironically Bold Ruler couldn’t stay longer than 1 1/4 miles.

They could hardly be more dissimilar, both in their racing attributes and in their genetic legacies. (So much for Dosage, eh?)
April 15, 2010 at 21:28 #290514The entire Kadastrof won five over hurdles and six over fences, as well as finishing second in a Game Spirit when still a novice and starting favourite for Champleve’s Arkle – he has since carved out a fairly successful career as a jumps sire.
Last Sunday’s Market Rasen bumper winner The Strawberry One is another of his, I notice.

April 16, 2010 at 13:37 #290611The only entire horse I remember watching over fences was Knife Edge. I’m pretty sure he was still a stallion when he was running in JP’s colours. I have been told that most horses over fences are gelded because they are reluctant to.. um… give their private area a battering over the brush fences when still in possession of all their equipment? Has anyone else heard this one and is there any truth in it?
