Well, well, well, just managed to automate the download of the RP cards
Kevin, please advise if you have any continued joy here. I used to automatically download the cards on the old site and its not the same without them.
I cant get my head round the new one at all
Oh dear. Its a really bad example of customer service. I know for a fact they received many letters and mails asking them to leave the .co.uk site going till the other settled down and they sent the same email response (which is a sign they didnt read the comments) to all.
The 4 page pullout with nothing but comments of praise is an insult to my intelligence, i have browsed several places and spoke to many people and there are very very few words of support for the new site.
There are alternatives and i will use them. So they have lost at least 1 customer, my instincts tell me they will lose a lot more and will regret assuming people will remain loyal to them as they are the only option.
Im baffled as to why they changed it. Had they charged for the old one, im certain at least a third of users would happily have paid a tenner a month or whatever. Thats a lot of revenue if thats all their after.
Even when id does work, the layout all rings of a bunch of IT geeks who know nothing about horse racing and where you may wish to go next.
Im also going for a walk to calm down!
A thoroughly enjoyable read. I wish Salute the best of success on his landmark run. I may even have a small investment!
In terms of your comments regarding the bad side of racing, i believe its important people are aware (and acknowledge) that the large majority of races are contended by horses trying to win, every sport has its share of chancers and greedy people willing to exploit, but then so does everything from politics to religion etc etc.
Its easy to always look at the negatives but racing is full of upbeat stories and people who love the game such as yourself. Its only my view but i prefer to focus on these elements.
Cheers
what other alternatives are there to the racing post for race cards?
ive grown increasingly tired of them.
In my opinion there should be bans for horses who refuse to enter the stalls. Its the equivalant of a footballer not being on the pitch in time!
Other horses are disrupted and i feel the outcome of the race may even differ as result of the antics of the 100/1 shot keeping the others waiting for 5 mins
I did not subscribe to superform as you will know from my following comments.
What is it in particular that you are missing and cant get?
I ask as i use several very cheap or free sites and have lots of information readily available. The combined cost is about a tenner a month.
In terms of database, the one at horseracebase is the best i have came across and i have seen several suggestions made to them implemented. You can break any set of criteria down by anything you like, quite an invention!
This along with the free videos at ATR, the racing post’s comments in running and i do ok.
But id be very interested as i say in what you guys can no longer get, id be willing to bet if you wrote to horseracebase they may well take it on for you.
i know many will laugh but i am going to stick with henrythenavigator, im on a few times at big prices.
it never got the ground it needs so basically its the coventry it can be judged on. plus obrien has kept it back, had he netered it in something else i would have feared the worst
certainly the prices on betfair are ridiculous
this is an interesting theory
using the ‘use races’ facility on horseracebase system builder i limited a query to only races of group 1, 2 or 3 or listed (flat or aw) where trainer had 2 runners in the race and one of them was between 1/40 and 5/1
i then used these races to check the second string (by looking at horses over 5/1)
obviously you may have your own settings but thats what i used
anyway very interesting to break down by trainer
if you took the 4 trainers with over 10% strike rate you would have halford, prendergast, suroor & stoute
114 qualifiers, 16 wins, 72 points profit
It shows profit every year from 2003-2007
Period Bets Wins SP Points Strike Rate
2007 21 4 16.00 19.05%
2006 16 2 3.00 12.5%
2005 21 3 34.00 14.29%
2004 28 4 18.50 14.29%
2003 28 3 0.50 10.71%yes database includes all uk and ireland, its on http://www.horseracebase.com which i recommend to anyone interested in system building. donation based and getting better as each day passes
if you include irish the worst ever was a run of 37 consecutive losses of clear favourites, the worst in 08 has been 19 (again on 1st March)
i think as you can see from your results it can work but i would agree with an earlier poster about having a limit in place as otherwise eventually one day the bubble will burst (in my opinion)
incidentally if you look at clear favs in non-hcaps with between 3 and 9 runners the worst ever consecutive run was 16 (in ire or uk). in 2008 there was a run of 12 as detailed below
9.02.2008 Newbury Voy Por Ustedes (FR) Evens 2/6
9.02.2008 Lingfield Ace of Spies (IRE) 2/1 4/8
9.02.2008 Warwick Oward (FR) 9/4 PU/5
9.02.2008 Newbury Here’s Johnny (IRE) 15/8 PU/5
9.02.2008 Lingfield Hurricane Hen 8/11 2/6
8.02.2008 Wolverhampton Swallow Forest 15/8 6/6
8.02.2008 Wolverhampton Mama Leo 11/4 6/8
8.02.2008 Bangor Play On Words (FR) 7/4 2/9
8.02.2008 Bangor Armaturk (FR) 1/3 UR/6
8.02.2008 Southwell West Lorne (USA) 6/4 3/9
8.02.2008 Kempton Gwanako (FR) 4/6 3/6
8.02.2008 Southwell Bethanys Boy (IRE) Evens 2/9cant excuse this behaviour but if im honest i did find the story amusing
as for bookies staff, my experience tell me that at least 10% are rude and do not offer a good customer service. my local is a lovely lady but the one round the corner has an old bag who slams your money down and refuses to settle bets some times as she gets herself flustered.
i understand they put up with a lot but so do staff everywhere and they are still expected to be polite etc.
i have access to some very reliable databases and cant see 46 losing favs in a row. im using criteria of clear fav in uk. the worst run was 43 in 2005, in 2007 the worst was 16.
this year the worst so far has been 17, that happened on 1st march – although there was a winner on the day beforehand.
these were the consecutive losers,
1.03.2008 Newbury Planet Of Sound 4/1 2/13
1.03.2008 Kelso Scriptwriter (IRE) 3/1 3/13
1.03.2008 Doncaster Just A Thought (IRE) 7/2 6/17
1.03.2008 Kempton Classic Fiddle 11/10 PU/5

1.03.2008 Newbury Count Kristo 11/8 2/5
1.03.2008 Kelso Brave Rebellion 11/4 UR/10all this said, i am impressed at the profit of your system. i am also surprised and if im honest think a bit of luck has been had. but best of luck with it, i hope it carries on for you
i enjoy atr and most of the presenters, my favourite though is strangely chapman. cant really explain why but its just my sense of humour. he seems to me to be mischevous, sarcastic but above all passionate.
makes me laugh when i read posts slagging him when he goes over the top and says something like "its what we have been waiting for all day – the classified stakes".
contrary to the popular saying, sarcasm is not the lowest form of wit!
ive won a few bob on asiatic and will be doing him again but main bet will be to place. curlin may just beat him i think but i do think at 6s he is good value
there will always be some sort of foul play in racing, just as there is in every walk of life. my own opinion is its no worse a ratio of foul play than football or anything else.
i get a bit frustrated with people whining on about it.
to me its like the old bloke down the pub going on about politicians being crooked,
all these things are relative to what you do, what you can get and how easy it is to get away with.
if we asked everyone on the forum if you were a trainer and had a chance to plot up a gamble would you do it, my guess is you might get 20% that admit it, another 20% would do it but wont admit it. 60% would just say no
so my point – its to be expected, its part of human nature and i dont think its that big a deal
are there odds yet on the top trainer? id lay godolphin if they go too short based on what i have been reading
i dont think dandy man will prove to be a good purchase at all. although you are saying only the kings stand was ideal, i remember on numerous occasions the horse being talked up and reading about it as some sort of superstar. if it was, it would have proved it more convincingly by now.
i believe godolphin have hit desperate days in some ways and are trying so hard to come out on top they are forgetting to concentrate on what they are best at.
definitely agree about atr, its such a great facility to get for nothing!
all those 20p’s really add up!!
My favourite is horseracebase as i can quickly look at analysis of the going or distance (or whatever i want at the time) broken down by each horse
