The 810 at Dundalk is a potentially interesting race with Red Eye Express and O’briens Great Wall Of China both open to improvement and likely to handle conditions. Also Houston Dynamo, not far away in third in the Washington Irving/Unwritten rule race. Could be a reasonable race.
April 17, 2008 at 23:07 #158436Nownownow! A better chance than most, to say the least, I’d have thought. (Says he, before he runs tailed off…). But that’s a great value bet, to my mind. I even got 46s for the place. Here’s hoping, anyway.
April 17, 2008 at 23:11 #158437i know many will laugh but i am going to stick with henrythenavigator, im on a few times at big prices.
it never got the ground it needs so basically its the coventry it can be judged on. plus obrien has kept it back, had he netered it in something else i would have feared the worst
certainly the prices on betfair are ridiculous

I’d agree with that, especially the 74/1 Rio De La Plata. Connections still to make their minds up totally which two of their three that’ll run, so they say.
April 18, 2008 at 07:57 #158455Morning all –
Any opinions about Beacon Lodge?
I know he hasn’t achieved anywhere near enough to win a Guineas so far, but is reported to have wintered well, and runs in what looks a weak Greenham tomorrow. If he wins that, or runs well, he’ll shorten dramatically from the 150-1 currently on offer on Betfair.
April 18, 2008 at 08:27 #158464"Absolutely no chance" maybe isn’t fair or strictly true but despite being a Juvenile Breeders Cup winner the form isn’t within a stone of the top horses like New Approach and Ibn Khaldoun.
Also a breeders cup juvenile winner has never won a Guineas, they are generally not that type of horse.
He’d be one of the last horses I’d back.
Couple of points, Flash.
No Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner has ever run in the Guineas.
Nownownow didn’t win the Juvenile. He won the Juvenile Turf. No Juvenile Turf winner has ever won the Guineas because the race was run for the first time last October.I doubt he can win the Guineas, but I wouldn’t say ‘No chance’. The last American to come over for a Classic won the Irish Guineas after all.
April 18, 2008 at 08:41 #158466I think you have a very valid point there Don Alejandro de la Vega
……….Z is for "Zat should have Flash stumped" You are telling me something I never knew also.It is a huge problem punters have to assume our horses are better than our foreign counterparts.
Same over the jumps…year after year read any forum and all you will get is talk about the novices from Nicholls, King etc and along comes and irish horse and eats them alive.
I am sure the flat is the same……….I have read about horses winning sprints at Ascot from OZ………someone had said that to me 10 years ago I would have thought they were mad……..we live and learn and don’t assume, hopefully.
April 18, 2008 at 09:24 #158471Heard an awful lot on various forums about Irish horses that will "eat the ours alive"
…and then do sod all
April 18, 2008 at 10:07 #158483I think it would be a bit daft to dismiss one of the few G1 winners in the field (I can’t see there being more than three in the race)….

Red Eye Express a big gamble today
April 18, 2008 at 10:46 #158488I’ve always been sweet on Jupiter Pulvius, just because he didn’t run in the top 2 year old races doesn’t mean he’s not top class, just that they’ve taken there time with him. His profile is similar to Footstepsinthesand and wouldn’t be the 1st Ballydoyle classic winner to arrive on thew scene late.
If you take his trainers word at full face value, then Raven’s Pass will improve for yesterday’s run and better ground, so I wouldn’t write him off, also other horses have lost the Craven and gone on to win the Guineas.
New Approach is a rightful favourite, but whether a mile is his trip is doubtful and others may have more speed if the ground is lively. The Guineas could be his Derby trial.
Of the Godolphin horses, Fast Company clearly has the best form, but the noises on him aren’t great, though I still believe he’d be suited to good or better ground than Ibn Khaldoun, who being out of Gossamer may prefer a bit of cut (he has won on good to firm but against what?). Rio de la Plata looked like a 2 year old to me and though he may win decent races abroad, will probably struggle with the best of what looks a good generation.
Of the rest Winker Watson could do a Dutch Art and sneak into the frame, before proving better over sprint trips, though the form of his July Stakes win is pretty good so he shouldn’t be dismissed.April 18, 2008 at 10:57 #158490I’m sure Peter Chapple-Hyam is on record as saying that Winker Watson misses the 2,000 gns.

Cheers running rein, being gambled in the guineas market too. Had a bit of 50s the other day of rthat (more in hope than anyything) so fingers crossed…
April 18, 2008 at 12:58 #158515Don’t worry my friend – you are not alone. I still rate him on top on my 2,000 Guineas list for now.
April 18, 2008 at 15:34 #158548Good one Myles, just looked Paddy Power opened him at 4-1 at 10.11am, by 10.21 he was 5/2 and on 11.00 am he was 11/10. Am looking forward to this race
April 18, 2008 at 19:17 #158579Prince Shaun has held him off with O’briens in third
, listening to it it sounded like he’s not been given a good tactical ride and challenged very late but it looks like the guineas may be off but he will definitely be one to follow this season. Only realised before the race that his dam is snowfire who was second in kazzias 1,000 guineas. One went off in front and they all seemed to hold way back off it, with the winner in second and REE in 4th/5th the winner was first to kick for home and REE didnt challenge until into the last furlong, will have to catch the re-run.
Just watched the re-run and REE was finishing really strongly, he should have raced more prominently and battled out the win, but he’s a cert to pick up stakes races this season.
April 18, 2008 at 22:04 #158615I think he had every chance and just wasn’t good enough.
Kinane certainly didn’t miss him inside the last furlong although those racing closest to the rail seemed to have a slight advantage tonight.
The winner won a decent Leopardstown maiden on his only start last year and could be a live Irish 2000G contender.
Tale of Two Cities didn’t do much to frank the form of REE maiden win the other day. - AuthorPosts
