    hi colin.

sorry if i gave the impression i had taken your comments the wrong way, this is not the case. i understand completely that you were simply expressing what is probably the correct assumption.

my problem is with forums in general over-moderating so that people can not say anything about certain topics if it involves another website. for example i mentioned a website name in the systems section and promptly had my post removed when all i wanted to do was discuss the best way to utilise free tools and to let others interested in systems know of a cool free resource.

in this instance i felt it would be useful to compile an index of genuine free sites that would help others but also myself. at the moment i pay a couple of different sites for things i am sure i can get elsewhere for free. it was only last month i stopped paying two others when i realised i could use facilities at another site for free.

it seems that just because i dare to mention a site other than this one it is perceived i may be a spammer or have ulterior motives, when in fact all i am trying to do is utilise a forum full of people who are in a position to help each other and for the life of me i cannot comprehend why mentioning a free resource should in any way be considered to be against rules.

but i apologise once again if you felt i had taken your post personally

In his 8 NH races he has started fav 6 times, jointfav once and 2nd fav once. He has won only one of these races.

There will never be any value about this horse and he will continue to frustrate. I wouldnt suggest anyone backing him.

Does anyone know if there were any panic stations on betfair, anyone lay off a load thinking MF was going to blow it?

For me personally, taking on a horse at these kind of prices is not a particularly attractive proposition. But with the correct strategy and filters in place i guess it could work out, but saying that the majority of long odds on shots are hard to oppose.

I ran a quick system check on horses with SP 1/5 or less since 2002 in Hurdles and Chases.

    Chase – 52 Bets – 48 Winners – 4.13 points profit – 92.31%strike rate
    Hurdle – 87 bets – 70 winners – 5.10 points loss – 80.46%strike rate

So if you had backed them all in theory you would be 1 point down after 5 years.

Personally i just try and find value elsewhere at more generous prices.

I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It certainly helped me in reaching better strategies as well.

Your comment about the forum losing its edge is interesting to me.

Im only new here as you can tell from my post count but i would be interested to know why you say this.

To be honest i am a little disheartened in general with horse racing chat on the internet, it seems either its just repetitive slagging matches in places like the betfair forum or over-moderation in most others (caused apparently by endless spammers) meaning many issues cant be discussed.

Anyway just thought id say! my first ever smiley

There is nothing wrong with tipsters in theory and i can see your point and the benefit they may offer to those who dont have time but still want to back or whatever.

What i feel gets on most peoples nerves though is the ridiculous claims and lies that are told to tempt people to sign up.

I know this is just marketing and i agree it is possibly the subscribers fault for being naive, but using the comparison to objecting to a microwave, would there not be uproar if a manufacter was claiming that their microwave was incredible and could turn water into wine and has done consistently for the past few years?

    found this quite funny

    http://www.horseracebase.com/columnists.php#sweeney2

    The Sweeney – 5th November 2007 – I hate public transport.

Everyone has their pet hates in life and it just so happens that mine is public transport. More specifically its buses. Im not sure whether im just unlucky but every time i get on one i end up having an awful experience.

Today i decided to follow the do-gooders advice and leave my car at home when i went into town to buy a few things. I jumped on board and sat as remotely as i could – there was nobody near me but in my head i could only feel negative thoughts. Next stop two nerdy-looking people got on and promptly sat in the seats directly in front of me. I then witnessed a conversation about something called "The Dungeon Chamber" and an argument about whether it was better to use a "monkey key" or a "plankton card". This later moved on to a heartfelt plea from one to the other to trade the secret code to level 19 for an extra joypad. The last straw was when they started using each others nicknames "Master G" and "Prairie Dog" and Master G uttered the line "I’ll tell you one thing Prairie Dog, your thunderbolts are powerless against the might of Angari’s tomb sword".

I couldnt bear it and moved upstairs. And it was up here that i bumped into a good old buddy of mine i hadnt seen in ages. This guy was always a true gent and a gambler who i always admired. He had his own strategy and stuck to it. If there was a big gamble moving round the pub he would ignore it and stick to his own thing. I never knew if he made big money and i didnt really care, the point is he done ok with his bets but wasnt "full of it".

Well as it turns out the bad luck of the buses struck again for me. I sat down looking forward to a decent conversation about racing like the good old days and before i knew it he was trying to sell me a tipping service and claimed he had made 20 grand in the last week. When i said i wasnt interested he warbled on about having a 85% strike rate. When i asked for some examples of landed bets in the last week he stuttered and said he would have to get details from his boss. I said that if he had made such money he would surely remember a winner and he backtracked and said he meant £20,000 this year. I got up and turned away and when he asked where i was going called back with a certain air of disgust "Im going to sit with Master G and Prairie Dog".

Turns out there may be a pet hate i have ranking higher than buses!

my own favourites are ruby on the jumps and ryan moore on the flat

i cant stand a few but i dont like graham lee in particular on jumps as i always feel he thinks he is riding a superstar and tries to give them too much to do. on the flat my least favourite is graham gibbons who i just think is bad all round.

i actually read an article earlier that included this

"Incidentally you may be interested to know that the jockey (with 25 or more qualifiers) with best strike rate on favs is Sam Thomas with a magnificent 51.67%, the worst im afraid is Graham Gibbons with an abysmal 13.33% and only 6 winners from 45 horses starting as favourite!"

this just makes me dislike him even more!

I ran a quick check using criteria of "class dropper" and "class 3, 4, 5 or 6 races". its a very general question your asking but results show horses turning out quickly have higher strike rate, the longer the break the lesser the percentage

you may want to add more criteria though

i had a bit of trouble getting a copy but found it eventually.

its going to be tough obviously getting established but on first inspection it has a good chance

the fact i bought the racing post as well just shows in my eyes how hard it will be to take it on as people are so used to the layout, writers etc which in my opinion the rp is great for. the trouble may be that not many people are looking for a change so persuading them might be that bit tougher as not many will buy both

but best of luck and i will certainly buy again
