Finche ran ok on the ground without ever really threatening. I wouldn’t give up on him next time on better ground and perhaps over further.

Count Octave won on his seasonal debut :good: A. Balding said he wintered well and he would be starting in lower grade races with a view to moving up in grade for the longer distance cup races.

    BETTY F (Frankel/Instance(Invincible Spirit)
Running tomorrow on the AW at Lingfield 2.30
If she takes to the track she’s going to be hard to catch
Had all sorts of problems and ruined her chances when running in 8th position to Clemmie last time out but tomorrow she’s going to show them a cleam pair of hooves….come on Betty

Nelson runs today over in Ireland for Aiden O’Brien. Stepping up to 10f for the first time as are his two Galileo colts.

All 3 are closely matched, big no bet race again for me but I’ll make sure to watch it.

Nelson given a very smart ride to win snugly – most likely the fittest of the three but was impressed by the way he kept on once Donnacha put his stick down and used hands and heels to the line.

Nicely done over what will prove to be his minimum trip. A Leger type…?

Not sure Epsom would suit him but an Irish Derby/Leger type like Capri wouldn’t be out of the question.

Nice win for Nelson, as you say Joni could see him as a Leger type, be interesting where he goes next.

Yes apparently it is scheduled for 12.40 tomorrow and he’ll be working with one other. Jac – we expect a proper rundown and video footage if possible!! :)

Now that The Flat is properly back, we can look forward to more Frankels running. There was quite rightly a lot of speculation in the early pages of this thread about just how successful a sire Frankel would be. A good time then to point out some upbeat, cheerful numbers.

There are many tables of sire stats from various publications, and Frankel features fairly highly in most, but I like the methods of Bill Oppenheim and his APEX lists. As many followers of breeding pundits will know, Bill is now the chief such pundit for The Bloodhorse in the USA after many years fulfilling the same role at the Thoroughbred Daily News, and still keeps his own website too. For those who want to know a lot more about his work and opinions, he is not difficult to find on the internet.

Bill separates the runners of each sire (775 sires worlwide) into regions (USA, Japan, Europe, etc). Then he calls any runner an “A” runner if it earns within the top 2% of all runners in that region. “B” runners earn within the next 2% of runners after “A” runners, and “C” runners earn within the next 4% of runners after “A” and “B” runners.

For 2017 Frankel was the top sire in the world for his percentage of “A” runners. An average sire would have 2% of his progeny in the top 2% of earners: Frankel has over 11%, a multiple of over 5.5 time a normal expectation. That is, the best sire for getting really top class progeny. Deep Impact, Galileo and Uncle Mo were second, third and fourth in the list.

In the list for percentage of A+B+C runners, Frankel was third behind Deep Impact and Signature Red (an relatively obsure stallion in Ontario with only 24 runners in 2017), and just ahead of War Front and Galileo.

We already knew that Frankel was good, I just like looking at the numbers that demonstrate it.

Elarqam will also be given a racecourse gallop tomorrow apparently, before going straight to the Guineas

Thanks LD73,Tonge…I’m going to get there extra early tomorrow to so that I can see them both.

Will try to get a photo of them but they won’t be parading so it might be difficult, but will report back on how they looked and how they have progressed Joni….not so sure about the video footage. LOL Unless you fancy buying me a Samsung S9..my old phone has given up the ghost and has run out of storage.

Had a great day Chaos although only two winners on the course.
One for the notebook Jackstar he was magnificent in the paddock, he will be a serious contender in sprints this season….but enough about non Frankel horses..LOL

Cracksman and Elarqam made their appearance today at the Rowley Mile and both were paraded in the pre parade before their gallops. Have to say that Cracksman outshone Elarqam in the looks department, he has grown and his coat was gleaming and he handled the Rowley Mile exceptionally well disposing of Master Singer and powering up the hill to applause from the crowd.

Elarqam was held up behind his two anonymous companions and was quite keen before being unleashed for his run and he did it with ease and looked very professional. I wouldn’t say that he has grown much since last year as he was so forward then, but his muscles have certainly developed. Wherever he goes this season he will win.

Did have some photos of Elarqam and Cracksman but my computer seems to be unable to upload them, will get them on here as soon as I can get the problem sorted…Jac
