Those were the high points of otherwise abysmal careers (so far for TM) wouldn’t you say?

    Pretty good high points!
Re Taj Mahal, Ballydoyle have always rated him, he’s obviously one of those horses that shows more at home than on the racecourse. But they are persisting with him, he’s still entered in all the top races.

Anyway, it’s a pretty good record for the dam, chances are Happily will be better than average.

I was under the Frequency Illusion that Gleneagles had more full siblings, but even so, I think the point is if Happily only managed to live up to the standards of Coolmore, Taj Mahal and Marvellous (Irish Guineas win aside), I don’t think she would be worth getting too excited about. Its important to remember when I say they were muck that’s in the context of Ballydoyle, we’re talking about Gr.1 horses, champions.

Re; Taj Mahal, I don’t think they’re persisting with him in the hope that he will become a Gr.1 winning horse, hes still entered in the top races so he can do the donkey work, like he did in France but managed to stay on for 4th.

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel that this year’s French Derby was a mediocre affair. It is loaded with horses whose best form was from last year.

Rivet is a big disappointment. I backed him at 7/1 for last year’s Racing Post Trophy and I collected on him. However, I immediately ruled him out as a Derby contender. I don’t think the horse stays at all.

War Decree looks a shadow of what he was at two. Order Of The Garter has failed to go on and Bay Of Poets is a Kempton maiden winner who has won nothing else since. He looks stuck in the mud at about 100 ability.

Anyway, this thread is about 2YO horses, so I am not getting caught up in comparing brothers and sisters from other years.

September was hugely impressive and looks an exciting prospect. A couple of things to bear in mind are the quality of the field she beat and her breeding.

This did not look a strong field and it will be interesting to see how it works out going forward. Regarding the breeding, a lot of Aidan’s get beat first time out but an awful lot of them are Galileo progeny. Being by Deep Impact, September may not be directly comparable with some of the O’Brien horses who improve vastly with time.

Akihiro is a son of Deep Impact and he went into a lot of ante-post books last season (mine included) but he has actually regressed slightly this season, rather than developing into the Derby contender he was expected to.

Just a couple of things to bear in mind perhaps but September has made an excellent debut for now.

Elsewhere, I read that Gordon Elliott was said to have gone “cool” on the idea of taking his 2yo horses to Royal Ascot.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Sorry for derailing the thread steve, I’ll try tie this back into 2yo Happily, but come on Sunspangled, you don’t really think Taj Mahal is a good Group 1 horse do you?

Nope, never said that. I just don’t think he and his siblings are ‘muck’.

Back on topic, Masar seems to have gone under the radar a little bit. Appleby’s 2yo colt is by New Approach out of a Cape Cross mare, and got up well to win by a nose at Goodwood in back in May. He struggles to get room but once he got rolling he made up ground really quickly. Only the 8th horse home has come out since and he won comfortably. The horse Masar beat in 2nd, Invincible Army, looks like he could prove useful as well.

For now Masar holds an entry in the Pheonix, but his breeding suggests he’ll relish a future step up in trip.

    @ Voleur..
Folk Tale (Dubawi/Causeway Lass – Giant’s Causeway) running in the 1.55 at Newmarket tomorrow ran 4th to his stable companion Masar last time out but I also like the look of Hugo Palmer’s Encrypted (Showcasing/Disclose – Dansili) making his debut.

Looking forward to seeing the 2,600,000gns colt Glorious Journey (Dubawi/Fallen For You – Dansili) in the 1.25 Newmarket tomorrow, amongst many entries he holds a 2018 Derby Entry and is, of course, highly thought off.

Gerald Mosse rides a classy filly in the 1.25Take Me With You (Scat Daddy/Me And Miss Jones – Smarty Jones) this filly reported by Jeremy Noseda as impressing on her Breeze Up and she holds Gp.1 entries in the Phoenix & Moyglare.

Looking forward to being round the paddock to see all these beautifully bred 2yo’s.

Verbal Deterity ran out a easy winner of 7f maiden for Bolger might not been a strong maiden but the winner do it well

A good day for Charlie Appleby Triptych, Folk Tale and Glorious Journey winning the Div.2 and Div.1 maidens respectively. No wonder Bin Suroor was complaining about his lack of quality two year olds…

They were both made work but they battled it out, Glorious Journey hadn’t much cover and was quite keen as a result so credit where credit is due, and Folk Tale’s win certainly boosts Masar’s credentials.
Take me with you was in no way disgraced, she started gaining on the winner coming up to the line. One to watch next time out.

Verbal Dexterity tore his field apart there Darren. He probably didn’t beat much but you can’t really be much more impressive than he was today.

Runner up Sebastiano Ricci was beaten 3 lengths further behind Brother Bear last time, so that puts a reality check on the form quality.

Verbal Dexterity looks a likely type to progress but the big concern for me would be the dearth of good horses in Bolger’s yard the past few years.

Sanus Per Aquam looked a similarly exciting type after winning his maiden and then thrashing Port Douglas the next time out to become Derby favourite for a while. That changed when he was turned over at 1/3 Fav next time and his form generally tailed off after that with a Group 3 win over Tasleet by a nose being his only other career win. His form has declined from the heady heights and he was beaten a month ago in a handicap where he was 6/4F off a mark of 101, yet only beat two home in 4th place. All a long way away from the Derby dream and he looked like he needs dropped into the 90s that last time out. I don’t think I would be in a rush to back him off his new mark of 99.

Interesting to see where Verbal Dexterity goes next and whether Jim Bolger can turn him into that high class horse he has been lacking for a while now.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Yes very pleased with Take Me With You in the first race and the way she came up the hill today to be 3rd to Glorious Journey. Notice she has an entry on Tuesday at Lingfield AW which I hope she doesn’t turn out for.
Like to see her go straight to the Curragh for the Moyglare in September where 7f should suit. Jac :good:

Being There finally showed up at Newbury today. He finished second after being a little bit green and wayward. He was pipped a neck by Bullington Bandit, who was 80/1, so I was glad it was just a watching brief for Being There today.

Over at Nottingham I was taken with Richard Fahey’s Great Prospector who was making his debut in the 6F maiden that opened today’s card.

You can watch the race here:-

    http://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/video/20170615/2694209/16140834

Drawn in stall 12 on the extreme left as you look at the stalls, Great Prospector is soon travelling well and tracking the field in behind. He starts making good headway and then the jockey asks him to go and win the race about a furlong and a half out. Inside the final furlong, the jockey waves the whip and Great Prospector comes away from his field with a powerful looking action. The jockey only seems to have the horse at full speed for about half a furlong and is able to ease him down before the line.

Great Prospector continues to travel strongly after the race is over and he is quite a big looking colt with plenty physical scope. Kit Marlowe, who was favourite and finished third, came in here with a RPR personal best of 87 and it suggests that Great Prospector would be rated 90 at least. That is a very decent starting mark for a 2YO and it suggests he is smart.

Great Prospect is by Elzaam, a sprinter who started with Michael Jarvis before transferring to Roger Varian. Elzaam was runner up to Strong Suit in the Coventry on his second start, having won his maiden at York and earned a RPR of 92. Not quite top class afterwards but still a decent sprinter.

Elzaam is yet to produce anything of real note, with Clem Fandango being his best to date. I reckon Great Prospector may turn out to be his new personal best. The colt certainly looks promising.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I’d like Arbalet (Dark Angel-MissBeatrix) Danehill a bit more if Hugo Palmer’s yard were doing better, but I did manage to find out a little bit about the colt.
He is a late foal (April 21st) and Hugo Palmer stated in Steve Taplin’s 2yo book that he thinks he is not going to be early more from July onwards. They were minding him and hoping to aim him at some nice races later on.

Now it is almost July and the betting suggests that he is well fancied but I’m just going to see how he comes out of this race tomorrow and going for the more experienced Mark Johnston Knockout Blow to land the spoils here.
