September 13, 2022 at 06:39 #1614579It’s a centre-left broadly libertarian republic, HDLG, though the lazy might think otherwise.
Progressive tax system to fund a quality NHS and State education system, abolition of private education, all Royal assets become public assets to raise public revenue, the concept of unemployment and benefit is scrapped and any able bodied person not in a job has to do community work for their weekly payment until such time as they secure alternative paid employment and they don’t get paid if they don’t turn up for work (watch the figures and cost of this plummet).
Outside of that, laissez faire lifestyles – no restriction on gambling, or even alcohol and substance (all drugs legalised – you can buy crack in Boots if you like, bye bye County Lines) use, BUT all NHS treatment subject to testing and free treatment denied to anyone deemed to have caused self-inflicted ailments so all the clean living aren’t subsidising the decadent.
This should reduce stress on the NHS and, as Scrooge wisely put it before he went mad (I play a Christmas Carol backwards so it has a happy ending) help “reduce the surplus population.”
Tbh, I’d only expect it to be a single-term government!

The trick is to use your new found powers to change the length of a term. Weekly or even daily broadcasts of that excellent sounding Cromwell documentary would be an idea too. Still disappointed that he narrowly missed out on a place in the Dictators National.
September 13, 2022 at 17:46 #1614633That’s the public for you – no taste.
Btw, how can “thousands line the streets to pay their respects” be “Breaking News?”
The world’s gone completely mad – and it was fairly off it’s trolley already.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysSeptember 14, 2022 at 18:35 #1614701The declarations for Listowel and Fairyhouse on Monday are in – I’ll be studying the form “in State” (though I’m not expecting any visitors, still less anyone wanting to pay their respects) for the rest of the week and until the day.
I’d best get some provisions in on the Sunday as I’ve a feeling the shops will be closed on race day.
Haven’t heard about any betting sites closing for the day so far, though.
14 races from 2.35 to 6.50 – can’t wait!

It started with a few announcing it and the rest are gradually following from what I’ve seen, lest they be labelled ‘disrespectful’ by the Daily Blackshirt and chums no doubt.
September 14, 2022 at 20:16 #1614714Major visit to Waitrose on Sunday looks the way forward to me – it could be like Christmas Eve in there.
As for Monday, just think, in years to come excited young children will surely be asking: “Grand-dad, where were you the day Soandso won the 2.35 at Listowel?”

September 15, 2022 at 17:05 #1614782A nice old lady, but it’s all getting a bit absurd; so much servility in one week; ten days even

I didn’t mind her either, she was a good public servant for a lifetime, but this is beyond anything I’ve ever seen – the lines between dumb deference and dumber deification are becoming blurred.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.

I don’t drink, and anyway I need to keep a clear head for this 14-horse Listowel/Fairyhouse Monday accumulator I’m working on.
