I noticed Andrew Balding was at the committal service in Windsor. I did not see any of HMQ’s other trainers but I suppose they might have been there.
September 20, 2022 at 09:02 #1615206Could be the case that he was ‘representing racing’ as I’m sure they could have filled the place many times over.
On a related note, what happens to her horses, are these simply owned by The King now?
September 20, 2022 at 09:19 #1615207BBC News home page – my window into a world I like to keep at arm’s length – slowly returning to normality.
China could have invaded Taiwan and North Korea could have nuked someone these past ten days and no one would have noticed.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 20, 2022 at 09:54 #1615208Her horses might now belong to the Queen Consort or maybe Princess Anne.
Queen’s pony was brought out to meet the funeral procession as it entered the last part of the journey as well as 2 of her corgis.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.September 20, 2022 at 10:21 #1615210The Queen inherited her father’s horses, so I assume her horses will race in the name of the King.
It will be interesting to see how much the royal connection with racing continues. Charles and Camilla did have a few horses run in their name. One of them – Carntop – was quite prominent in the Derby betting at one point but ended up running over hurdles.
None of the family appear to have the same level of interest as the Queen did. Maybe the likes of John Warren will keep the operation going and the horses just race in the King’s name.
September 20, 2022 at 11:36 #1615216Surely yesterday proved what we as a country do so well , half of the world’s population watched the funeral …. If we have no monarchy then the country would be represented by Metal Mickey Liz Truss …… Charles can stay , the Monarchy ain’t perfect but there,s bigger fish to fry at the moment
————————————————-100% agree with you HDLG, it was a specticle. There probably isn’t anyone
in the world that can replicate an event like that yesterday. I watched it
and was quite touched by it all. As I previously said, I had a great deal
of respect for the queen. As Monarch’s go, she’s the one to look up to. She
took her role seriously, without flinching, through good health and bad,
right up until just weeks before her death. This is the day after yesterday, and yes, unfortunately we are represented by
Liz Truss, she’s the Prime Minister (God help us). Do you think she is going to
make her decisions based on what she is told by Prince Charles. She will do what
Boris did, she will see him every week and tell him how she sees her Government
doing. We are well and truly stuck with this woman until the next General Election. There are, as you say, other fish to fry at the moment (whale size) I hope that
things improve in the country, whichever Government is in, although at the moment
I’m not holding my breath.September 20, 2022 at 16:19 #1615234“I noticed Andrew Balding was at the committal service in Windsor.”
Bit surprised no one is reporting seeing Clare Balding there – after all, The Queen personally intervened to get her the job at the BBC.
Only thing she got really badly wrong in 70 years, tbf, but a howler nevertheless.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 21, 2022 at 01:47 #1615284I would imagine that Charles will feel obliged to maintain the bloodlines that were so important to his mother. If the breeding operation continues then it makes sense to have horses in training too. Camilla is reputed to have a genuine interest but we’ll see.
I am no royalist, though I respected the late Queen for her sense of duty and dignity, particularly while having to deal with politicians apparently incapable of either. I only caught bits of the funeral (there’s only so much marching up and down I can cope with) and was impressed but largely unmoved. The sight of the tiny black figure of the Queen’s fell pony and her devoted groom next to the formal pageantry and amongst the flowers at Windsor was a real choker though.September 21, 2022 at 02:06 #1615285I’ve heard on the vine that Charles has got a special dispensation to enter Camilla in next year’s Derby. He fancies her to cause an upset.
The lot of them high up click people, including Rod Stewart of do you think I’m Dexy and of midnight runner fame, are all on same secret concoction – it’s been rumoured it’s a horse pill – that makes them run like a BAT OUT OF HELL for miles and miles and miles and m. i. l. e. s, and it’s that same X factor that Jack Nicholson has given up on, but that I, a man of most umble means and nearing my maturity, am most desperate to get my hands on.

Educator, trained by William Haggas and formerly owned by The Queen, runs at Salisbury tomorrow in the ownership of The King.
September 28, 2022 at 11:16 #1616170Wouldn’t it be ironic if one of the horses she bred in her final years ended up winning the race that always eluded her – The Derby.

Richard Pitman certainly put the commentator’s curse on him!
September 28, 2022 at 13:11 #1616182I guess time will tell whether he retains ownership of the entire string. Not presumably a priority at this stage. I see he retains the same colours at least for now as well.
September 29, 2022 at 17:15 #1616288No winning start for the King.
It looked like Educator was trying to do an impression of Blackbeard before the start!
September 29, 2022 at 18:43 #1616299I see the Queen’s death certificate has been published. It confirms she died at 3.10pm on the 8th September, over three hours before the official announcement.
It does not really matter much but Improvise, the horse that ran in the royal colours on the same day in the 4.35 at Epsom, did so after she had died. That means the Queen’s last runner when she was alive – Love Affairs at Goodwood on 6th September – was a winner.
I suppose we already knew given that Liz Truss was informed around 4.30pm but the certificate confirms it.
Given the sombre tone of the television coverage that afternoon, you have to wonder when the BBC was told.
September 29, 2022 at 19:33 #1616313Having worked for the BBC, I’d say BBC News would have been amongst the first to know. While I was there, they were given information about top political figures which still isn’t in the public domain.

Edwards was in black tie before the time of death. I wondered at the time if ‘doctors are concerned for her health’ was code for ‘there’s nothing we can do’. Constant references to her being ‘comfortable’ too. If the BBC knew that it gave them time to get ready.
I see a fair few death certificates through work, I’m struggling to recall one where ‘old age’ was the sole cause of death listed. It’s certainly rare, there’s usually something to go with it.
