I think the wise old lady realised we are in for some seriously grim times in the years ahead and decided she’d had enough. Can’t say I blame her.
It looks like the first coins bearing the image of Charles III will be in circulation by the end of the year:
September 30, 2022 at 12:04 #1616374There were Platinum Jubilee and Commonwealth Games commemorative 50p coins minted earlier this year and if the new Charles 50p does appear before the end of the year and is dated 2022 I’m pretty sure it will be the first time that a year has had coins for general circulation minted with the heads of two different sovereigns since the George III and George IV half-crowns of 1820
Check your change: could be a collectors item
As for dying of ‘old age’ I would like my death notice to be that of John Le Mesurier’s – ‘conked out’ ‘it’s all been rather lovely’

gobbles up the starling?I suppose it’s a question of meanness. Dare we even utter the word ?
It’s a conspiracy masterminded by HMRC
October 4, 2022 at 15:16 #1617369Just Fine, my “cliff horse” for this season, becomes the answer to the future racing quiz question of “What was the first winner for the King?”
Cannot believe the SP of 100/30. He was 7/4 this morning. Thank goodness for best odds guaranteed!

October 4, 2022 at 16:22 #1617379He won really well, didn’t he? I hope that is the confidence booster he needs. I do believe there is a good race to be won with this horse.
October 16, 2022 at 07:42 #1618705About a third of the late HMQ’s horses are off to the Horses In Training sale, which is more than usual. It includes the King’s first winner Just Fine – which seems a little ungrateful! It looks like most of the yearlings are going to be sold as well.
I suppose it was inevitable. Charles does not have the same level of interest and William appears to have no interest at all.
October 16, 2022 at 10:30 #1618740I just read this – clear message and I think he’s not only less interested but more interested in issues that arguably conflict with racing.
He probably doesn’t want to be seen owning numerous racehorses during a cost of living crisis, he doesn’t want that image.

October 20, 2022 at 14:39 #1619227Sad to think how after a lifetime of respected public service, her last act (through no fault of her own) was to appoint the worst Prime Minister in British history.
October 29, 2022 at 18:03 #1620875Just Fine fetched £300,000 at the Horses In Training sale.
Julie Camacho picked up Tactical for £150,000. I wonder if she will be able to bring him back to something like his best.
