Damn!
I laid the winner.
Fortunately, it was at short odds and to an amount that’s not going to ruin my day.
(and not as annoying as having Moonstone come second at 41-1 yesterday)
Anyway, fair play to the winner. He must be a decent sort to win after pulling so hard.

Be interesting to see but I’d expect it to be higher than Authorised last year.
June 7, 2008 at 15:43 #167178New Approach 4/1 for King George VI with William Hill from 10/1
Tartan Bearer added at 5/1

Really? Just because the race was dominated by the first 3 in the betting? Authorized had the Derby field much more strung out last year (admittedly off a faster pace). Given how quickly the first 2 were pulling away, it’s a fair bet both can do better still.

Just looks a much stronger race than last year to me.
Is it fair to think Tartan Bearer may improve past New Approach given his lesser experience? Thought he ran a blinder and looked a very, very good horse.
June 7, 2008 at 15:48 #167182Jim Bolger has said he genuinely believed that New Approach would not be running in The Derby, however he came out of the two guineas runs better than expected.
He also reaffirmed that leaving the horse in The Derby was a genuine mistake.
June 7, 2008 at 15:49 #167183I imagine that one of Sir Michael Stoute’s horses might win, but my own fancy, despite the stamina doubts, is Kandahar Run (each way).
Let’s hope that all the horses and jockeys come back safely.
Well he was leading at one point………………………
June 7, 2008 at 15:51 #167184that’s all right then.
it’s a new labour thing, if someone says it’s so it must be so, nobody decieves these days, ever

That isn’t the issue.
The issue is that he said the horse DEFINITELY wouldn’t run as he prefered other options then he did a complete u-turn and ran him.
Had Bolger said the horse was "unlikely" to run but not 100% out no problem.
Had Bolger decided to run the horse and apologised for "non intentional misleading" then again that would’ve been something as people are forgiving.
As it is I think Doyley is right the mans arrogance and complete disregard for punters as left him looking like an a***hole and it hasn’t done racings image any good at all ………Again.
June 7, 2008 at 15:55 #167187He only ran coz Fat Mac told him to………..
June 7, 2008 at 16:11 #167190I know there are genuine grounds to feel aggrieved, but I wonder how many would still be complaining had they backed the horse.

I agree he looked a good horse Ian. Even looked like he was going to win easily for a time but If ever I saw a horse do everything wrong it was in todays Epsom Derby.
New Approach was having a tug of war with his jocky for the good part of a mile or more. He looked unbalanced coming round Tattenham Corner and had to weave his way through horses before coming through to win.
And win he did. I said earlier he was made to look ordinary by Henrythenavigator but ordinary he is not. He may not be a great miler but when the his horse learns to settle there is no way on gods earth will anything in todays race get so close to him again.
I honestly think we seen something really special today and if I were sure he would run I would be getting stuck into that 4/1 for the KG. Unfortunately Mr Bolger is likely to take him out by accident

Wholeheartedly agree, fist.
