Gutted for Roaring Lion … should have won. Mr Dettori should’ve rode him instead.
Certain that Frankie will be on board steering him home for The 2000 Guineas next year Ghost.

In hindsight if Mr. Murphy had held onto Roaring Lion just a little bit longer he would have been clear of Saxon Warrior when he jinked to the left but I did read today that nobody was expecting that devastating turn of foot.. like a bolt of lightning.
Just like you I was disappointed he didn’t win but his day will come he is a very very exciting horse for next season..
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 30, 2017 at 00:03 #1324106Agree Jac, he’s certainly on my shortlist of 3YOs to follow in 2018.
The fact that Roaring Lion is still running a bit green leaves us with the hope that there’s lots of room for improvement. He seemed to idle once he hit the front and allowed Saxon Warrior to get back. Maybe he’s one of those horses who has to be unleashed at the right time. I’ve no doubt that Mr Gosden will bring out the best in him
October 30, 2017 at 01:43 #1324111Well played Ham. Cracking punting.
Well done to Steve with the winner as well. You’ve a live contender for the classics next year.
Don’t think the winner is a Guineas horse personally. Could be a derby type though.
I still have a nagging feeling that the Derby winner hasn’t been seen yet in a pattern race. Looks a wide open race.
October 30, 2017 at 02:33 #1324113The early pace in the race was strong, winner did very well to be up with that pace from the beginning, particularly into a very strong wind, and to finish with the fastest final furlong, particularly after being knocked sideways by the runner-up. Ryan was motionless up until that point, he hadn’t asked the horse for his effort. The horse showed guts to get up after losing his momentum, and being well balanced and straightforward, and demonstrating speed and stamina, he looks the perfect type to start off at Newmarket en route to Epsom.
October 30, 2017 at 06:52 #1324114on roaring lion I have believed for a couple of races he may have his quirks, anyone think I am wrong(sure there are) and its just down to greenness?
Btw well done Ham and steveOctober 30, 2017 at 08:59 #1324115Whatever Roaring Lion did wrong (or, Murphy), it’s worth saying again, I think, that 2-y-olds who can battle back the way the winner did at that level are rare indeed.
October 30, 2017 at 09:42 #1324121yep steeplechasing was very impressed with saxon warrior, in a way he had to win the race twice
October 30, 2017 at 15:51 #1324162The wind and then roaring lion buffeted the horse too. I think the winner could be exceptional but I’m sure the first four will be grp 1 horses. The strongest racing post trophy that I can remember.
October 30, 2017 at 18:39 #1324189Saxon Warrior and Roaring Lion earned 120p from Timeform for their runs in the Racing Post Trophy. Timeform feel it is amongst the strongest 2YO form this year. The Pentagon is on 114p and all three colts are expected to do well next year.
The Timeform writer stated that Saxon Warrior has always looked a tall horse who will fill out next year.
Fingers crossed he is correct.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
