Today is definitely tricky but I’ve a few anyways!

    2m Handicap Hurdle –
Tricky but Apparition catches the eye. Form beating Mitchouka (rated 135) makes him look well ahead of 115, nice prep on the sand at Dundalk the other week and Fehily is doing a low weight for his standards. 14s looks fair to me.

    Handicap Chase –
Fancied Powersbomb to run a big one in the Grand Annual but didn’t get in. Coming off a big layoff is a concern but he’s definitely handicapped to go close in one of these. Grabbed some 25s last night but 16s still more than fair.

    3m Handicap Hurdle –
This isn’t rocket science but I’m sweet on the top two JP horses and have backed both last night e/w at 8s & 9s.
Delta Work franked the form in a big way yesterday, Glenloe running off a mark 4lbs higher is generous and A Great View running off 4lbs LESS is even more incredible. AGV was coming with a good run until making a mistake 2 out, and the jock let him finish 6th with another day in mind. Hopefully both will get into the first 5, be disappointed if they weren’t.

    Mares Novice Hurdle –
Bit of a flyer but Eoline Jolie is worth a little interest at 12s. First run at Fairyhouse the other week smelt like a prep and if they didn’t think she was capable of winning a nice pot not sure they’d have had her out this season. This isn’t a strong race and just like Tuesday, Fehily can come late with her and pick them up.

Stunning performance – jumped the best he ever did, maybe they have found his right distance afterall.

    OK, unpopular hot take time.

That Faugheen race just was an utter shambles.

If 2/3s of the field aren’t even trying to even start the race, never mind trying to compete in it, what is the point? Oh yes, 7/12 of the field was for one trainer…sigh.

If ever the ‘racing is bent’ crowd needed an example of a race to fight their cause, that was it.

    Unwatchable Drivel.

    * No, I didn’t have a bet in the race, before you ask.

The 5 lengths at the start made 0 difference. 5 lengths at the start doesnt amount to 25+at the end…

    Outstanding from faugheen.

I have to TOTALLY agree with Quelle Farce as far as the race itself was an utter farce.

What happened to starting in a reasonable line?
And what the hell are most of the jockeys doing??
That was almost as bad as Townend the other day!!
It seems to me that it should have been a false start and when you consider he called them back for a false or not acceptable start two races ago that there is no consistency at all!!
Punchestown festival should be called a Mullins/Elliott benefit!!
And how can you say the five lengths at the start? Some of them were twenty lengths behind after a furlong!
Makes a mockery of the sport and IMO the race was a JOKE!!

Looks very much like a horse for courses rather than trip issue. He loves Punchestown and has topped and tailed his season there in superb fashion.

No, they where 5 or so behind at the start, david choosing to kick on 20 infront was him being proactive, the inital 5 length start didnt make faugheen win by the distance he did, thats all im saying. And nothing closed on faugheen atall, that tells you they just simply couldnt go with him. I was on penhill and bapaume and i do not feel i was done in anyway, horse was to good for them today and was given a tidy ride.

Look what happened to the two horse that did follow Faugheen (La Bague Au Roi beaten 33L and Bacardys beaten 73L), Penhill whilst initially dropped in took much closer order but still couldn’t live with Faugheen.

I fully believe those other jocks didn’t think he would keep going as he did – there are many times at this course where horses appear to be well out of their ground only to reel in the leaders as they turn for home.

Most were probably thinking Faugheen was a shadow of his former self so probably gave him abit more rope but given the way he galloped and jumped today it wouldn’t have mattered how the race was run.

Punchestown festival should be called a Mullins/Elliott benefit!!

    Spot on raymo.

The winning performances are great, but winning a race where you ran between 4-7 horses and with trainers like Jessica Harrington (I think she is 0 for 60 at the moment), Tony Martin (has he had 5 winners at all this season) or Noel Meade (chronically out of form with the exception of 3-4 weeks) competing against you, the quality can’t be that great.

Faugheen was very good today, but you have to doubt the well-being and the class of the opposition.
Let’s not get carried away, please.

I don’t think Min will run tomorrow. Can’t see it with the week Mullins is having.

Looking forward to Altior against Footpad next year – through in UDS (if its soft) & Douvan and we could have a belting QMCC.

Mike, think you’re probably right about Min. I’ve had a little EW on Coquin Mans at 25s. Pardon my embarrassing ignorance: I know that if the bet is placed antepost and there are 8 runners in the race at the time the bet is placed, you still get paid down to 3rd place even if one is pulled. But my bet was placed after final decs. If Min doesn’t run leaving 7 in it and my horse is 3rd, do I get the place money? I should know this by now…

I am not saying Faugheen wasn’t good at all!!

I AM saying the start was a JOKE!!

Lots of us have seen lots of races this season and if starts were regularly made like that then I am sure there would be a hell of a lot of voices screaming from the roof tops saying it was unfair to say the least!!

Faugheen was impressive but when a trainer has seven horses in a twelve horse race and the race starts like that with four of his a long way clear almost immediately then questions need to be asked.

I don’t want to go down the road of lambasting Irish racing but this business of multiple entries for one trainer happens on the flat too with AOB and IMO it is unsatisfactory to put it mildly!!

And as a postscript we all saw what happened when Getabird didn’t get his own way earlier in the week!!

I’m not sure about the multi runners raymo
if the trainer/owners keep them apart we say we want to see them running against each other
I thought it was great to Douvan, Min and UDS racing against eachother personally

As for the race itself the jockeys need to be on the ball themselves, they didn’t give Faugheen too much respect but as previously written those that went with him got burned out. I can understand the frustrations but Faugheen looked imperial to the rest today
