I don’t see that much of an issue myself either.
It was just the best to see Faugheen win again, and I don’t think he would have been, regardless of how the race started.
April 26, 2018 at 20:59 #1352092Just wonderful to see Faugheen winning again. Loved him, but thought he would never come back, even if it was staying hurdling, which is the 4th division of NH racing. At his peak, thought he was the best hurdler ever
April 26, 2018 at 21:02 #1352093Although I rather lose the will to live listening to James Willoughby, he did provide statistics to show that team tactics work in racing. Make of that what you will.
April 26, 2018 at 21:14 #1352095Green, if after final decs and 7 run youll only be paid for 1 and 2..
April 26, 2018 at 21:24 #1352098I can’t see why he wouldn’t run Min. Been running everything else. 20s looks a big price on his Supreme run alone.
April 26, 2018 at 21:40 #1352104I suppose it depends on how Min has come out of the race the other day
ran at Cheltenham, Aintree, Punchestown, if he’s cream crackered could do more damage than goodGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 26, 2018 at 22:00 #1352105I’m another in the group that is enjoying this festival less and less as it goes on, questioning much of what I am seeing, and not liking what happens when trainers throw the kitchen sink and more at a trainers’ title. Team tactics is one angle on this but tomorrow’s decs are another. 7 horses that have already run at this festival are turning out again, two days later, in G1s: Blow by Blow, Cartwright, Delta Work and The Game Changer for GE; Getabird, Whiskey Sour and Min for WPM. We have already been told that some of these horses (Getabird and Blow by Blow) are ‘fragile’ and difficult to keep sound. I hope they all come back safe and sound. As for Min – how many times has NJH said that going to Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown in one year was too much even for Sprinter? Now Min (who laboured at Aintree, and again on Tuesday) is apparently being asked to do even more, and asked to do it again in a G1 hurdle, when he hasn’t run in a hurdle race for two years. NH racing thrives on top class horses but those horses need minding if we are to see them year on year, not used as trainers’ championship fodder.
April 26, 2018 at 22:11 #1352106I believe that Min and any other fit horse should be capable of running at least one race per fortnight.
April 26, 2018 at 22:12 #1352107Although I rather lose the will to live listening to James Willoughby, he did provide statistics to show that team tactics work in racing. Make of that what you will.
I stopped listening to him over a year ago. Sometimes I try to listen to him, but then again no one gives me back those wasted minutes.
Titus, now that you have mentioned Aintree I have to say that it’s becoming a lower rate Festival.
Willie Mullins doesn’t send many horses over and Gordon Elliott concentrated just on a few race. The main focus after Cheltenham clearly is clinching the Irish Trainers Title.
Hendo, PFN, Hobbs, King just to name a few, have send nothing or just a couple of horses over.
Where is the one-on-one battle in those, if this has become a team event???
Oh, speaking of team events, I think there is one planed for a few Thursday’s during the Flat season.
April 26, 2018 at 22:19 #1352109I’m quite sure that this hasn’t been his main target for this season. He might be kicking and bouncing and raring to go, but it could be a race too many.
Basically, it is just another try to make GE champion trainer, but after such a long season I wouldn’t risk a possible future Gold Cup winner over timber again.
Team tactics will come into play and it might get a bit rough for him. After all, there is no intention to run him over hurdles again, so why taking a chance?
April 26, 2018 at 22:22 #1352110Im sure the jockeys will take care of the horses if there struggling titus and im sure the trainers have the horses welfare first in their mind, i personally think its alot to ask of min, but i also truely believe that fehily, if in doubt, will be told, pull him up, these horses do alot of work at home, is that asking to much of them?
You cant call team tactics when all of the winners hes had have been from different owners, turning over short priced favs from the same yard…. i havent seen any evidence of team tactics whatsoever….. please explain that angle?
And to finish, REGARDLESS of the trainers title, this fes, ALWAYS has horses running multiple times, their finished for the season after this week and will be standing in a field until august… plenty time to recover. If anything tragic happens tomorrow, it wont be, because they ran on tuesday, theinval coped one day after the other just fine. You might see a few NRs in the morning.
April 26, 2018 at 22:31 #1352112The other thing I’d like to point out is the number of high profile clashes which took place this season. If people were told at the start of the season that min would take on yorkhill, douvan, altior and un de sceaux this season, that un de sceaux would take on douvan, that yorkhill would race against Faugheen, and that samcro would take on min and melon then they would have been hyper with excitement. All of these clashes have been great, with the obvious exception of yorkhill being terribly campaigned this season. The race for the trainers championship has brought about many of these clashes and how lucky are we to see the likes of un de sceaux and douvan pulling clear to battle for top honours. How lucky were we to see faugheen destroy that decent field today. He beat the current stayers hurdle winner rated 165 by 13 lengths. Miles back in 4th was the aintree stayers hurdle winner. Faugheen obliterated the best staying hurdlers today without being put under much pressure, one of his finest performances in my opinion. For me this has been a brilliant festival so far and bring on the last two days I can’t wait.
April 26, 2018 at 22:34 #1352113Samcro is an absolutely appalling price for this race
April 26, 2018 at 22:37 #1352114Melon gave a dual CH winner a bit of a fright in this year’s renewal.
9/4 is an acceptable price imo.
April 26, 2018 at 23:19 #1352117Melon’s going to need a fast pace to help him settle and a fast pace will probably help Samcro.
April 26, 2018 at 23:29 #1352118For all the cries of ‘genius!’ about Mullins, Elliot, or whoever, horses can make as big a fool of them as they do of us at times.
As recently as Saturday they were talking about retiring Faugheen. What do they know? How many erroneous conclusions have been arrived at based on a horse’s homework?
Gallops in the morning are not racetracks in the afternoon. Trainers probably make many more mistakes than they are ever exposed for. That’s why bookmakers have flourished for so long.
April 26, 2018 at 23:32 #1352119Yeah wex, its made for many a great spectacle, that champion chase field was exceptional, even the stayers field today was great, your finding out about samcro tomorrow as opposed to maybe next march…. all caused by the trainers title, like ive said many a time, its been fascinating watching it.
