Did he really give him a fright? Geraghty didn’t give him a tap until the last 50 yards? Also was his first proper race since last years CH.
Don’t get the race too many angle, he’s been winning at a stroll all season apart from being extended at Cheltenham? None of these have had Punchestown as the target apart from possibly Wicklow Brave.
Odds on could be short for a novice but then he’s not any novice.
April 26, 2018 at 23:54 #1352123Thing is with that Joe, someone knew he was ready to fire! Went from 10s into 11/2, not easy done in the headline race of the day at Punchestown as I’m sure you know.
Festival has been quality so far, unpredictable and very competitive as ever. Whether 6 are trained by GE or WPM I couldn’t care, as long as they’re all trying I’m happy, and they certainly seem to be doing that based on SP results.
Quite keen on Up For Review tomorrow and had a play on Caid Du Berlais in the Foxhunter aswell.
April 27, 2018 at 00:32 #1352127Not been able to post since wednesdays Racing ended. Technical difficulties.
Firstly, brillaint from Faugheen. Absolutely magnificent. Surely he goes close in next years Stayers if he stays sound? Gallops them relentlessly off the front.
Secondly, I’m enjoying this festival massively this year. A good day two and Thursday was another solid day with A Great View and Auvergnat doing the business. Bad looking injury (I presume fatal) in the formers race. Not nice to see. Had to look away. But asides from that, it’s been a very enjoyable festival I think.
Finally, I think Samcro tears them a new one tomorrow lads. Superstar. Said it for a year. Absolute superstar.
April 27, 2018 at 00:34 #1352128I think 10/11 to beat Melon is value personally.
Samcro could be the best horse in many a year and Melon was placed in a poor Supreme and a poor Champion Hurdle. For me, Samcro beats Melon every day of the week.
April 27, 2018 at 01:11 #1352130Day 4 selections:

April 27, 2018 at 09:18 #1352151A shocker yesterday for me, 4 losers but Faugheen made up for that in buckets.
I agree with Nathan. You can’t have it both ways- trainers avoid their own horses racing eachother often, yet this week they are facing off….and people moan on both occasions. Hard to please all!
However, i do agree with some of the horses being overraced, espeically Min. I don’t question WPM would run him if he didnt think he was ok…but he looked goosed on Tuesday and totally underperformed. His jumping did look deliberate and sketchy, so maybe it was more down to that.
It’s hard on Jessie and co, but at the end of the day, they haven’t the ammo. SJ and OD sadly injured and dead…its always going to be harder for her to compete.
No selections today- i have a Cheltenham Friday feeling about today, i could pick a few and see them finish nowhere like i did then…so i will leave it.
i’ve heard a squeak for faheys in the bumper…make of it what you will…as we know how these things normally end up!!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 27, 2018 at 10:26 #1352154I can see both sides to this.
Its exciting to see it happen.
But, Would it happen if the Championship wasn’t on the line? Not for me. I am a bit 50/50 with this all for the championship approach. Its good viewing, but surely, it’s not the best by the horse.
As Joe says, Melon needs a real pace, Coquin Mans will probably try and provide this, but it probably won’t be the Cheltenham pace we saw in March.
Samcro should be winning for me, but then again, i just had a flick through his 2 mile form, and as he’s been winning with his head in his chest, it’s probably not totally relevant, but the forms not looking great- even novice wise.
I probably expect Samcro to win, as Elliot has a line through Mick Jazz. Sadly in the air when the race is off so i will miss it

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 27, 2018 at 10:33 #1352157Stunning couple of days from Mullins.
I’ve just laughed at Steeplechasing’s tweet about the Mullins entry fees and the situation in Ireland is concerning but, from a pure training perspective, he’s proven himself to be on a different level this week. Stunning.
Also, I think my point about the Al Namix chasers has been proven once and for all this spring. Petit Mouchoir is a talented hurdler who just cannot replicate that level of ability over fences. Like almost every other of his sire’s progeny that has gone before him, you cannot back them with any confidence after switching from hurdles
April 27, 2018 at 10:58 #1352159Anyway back to the racing!!
Three 14/1 shots today
WEST BRIDGE
TOMBSTONE
DORTMUND PARKGood Luck Guys
April 27, 2018 at 11:52 #1352162I’d have Min no bigger than 8/1 here. 20/1 looks crazy, especially in an optimum each way race.
April 27, 2018 at 11:58 #1352163Yes Joe the 20s EW on Min was too good to resist so I added him in.
He didn’t get flogged on Tuesday so hope be OK today.April 27, 2018 at 12:20 #1352164To be fair Joe, as Rich Ricci said- its the way he works.
Entries left right and centre. i think that is one of giggys main reasons for leaving, along with not being centre focus and getting first dibs in big races.
I’ve experienced it first hand, and whilst its annoying, he’s the best so take it, or don’t have runners with him.
It’s not something new, so its only the owner to blame.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 27, 2018 at 12:58 #1352165I think there should be a maximum entry / runner rule for any one trainer.
You see some big handicaps over here and Hendeson or Nicholls might have three runners in them but, over in Ireland, it’s fairly common to see the big two with several runners each.
April 27, 2018 at 13:14 #1352167Another great day’s racing, and I’ll enjoy most of it without spending too much, but Tombstone and Wicklow Brave both at 14- in win singles and each way Double looks worth it
April 27, 2018 at 13:16 #1352168I think there should be a rule like that Mark but one which only kicks in if there are entries that are balloted out – Tomorrow’s Handicap hurdle for example WPM has 14! of the 25 running and Harry Rogers loses out by 2. That’s not right IMO.
Sometimes the horses simply aren’t there however, see todays G1 Novice race for example so why not let them run as many as they want in these races as it doesn’t discourage anyone and increases betting and the race.
April 27, 2018 at 13:46 #1352171They have less racing in Ireland so that helps with healthy field sizes although a large majority of said fields have no chance of winning. People complain when the fancied runners avoid racing each other and then complain when they do – if it wasn’t for the title race most of these clashes would not have happened and people would be moaning about uncompetitive races with long odds on favourites.
It is interesting to look at the stats to see that Elliott has to date had 1229 runners this season compared to Mullins 750 that is a difference of 479 which in itself is more total runners than any of the other trainers have had to date. Elliott has had 209 winners, 192 2nd places, 141 3rd places and 121 4th places. Mullins 206 winners, 122 2nd places, 87 3rd places and 69 4th places….boggles the mind.
Since 2000/01 NH season only two trainers (Meade & Mullins) have actually won the title in Ireland which does back up the Irish racing is heavily dominated by the elite few but then if you compare the exact same period in British racing the title has been won by only three (Pipe, Nicholls & Henderson) – you could argue that in Britain there are a few more trainers outside the big two that can pop up with the odd G1 winners compared to Ireland but other than that there really is not much difference in the domination of NH racing either side of the water.
