Had a really decent day today.

Very frustrating that I didn’t put them up here, but just not had the time the last few weeks, so must get the finger out for this thread.

Highlight was Sumos Novios at 33’s, but I can also add on Life is for Living, and The Storyteller at 22’s EW. He went to top of my Cheltenham fancies for The Pertemps.

I feel more comfortable mentioning Dalton Road and Delta Work, both 6’s. I did say I would be following Dalton, while Delta has obviously been a long term favourite on my threads, and it was good to see him land a proper big one. Delighted for him.

A good day all round, and coming off the back of big price EW’s on Imperial Presence and Ballyandy, along with Geronimo and Regal Encore last weekend, it’s been a very very good three weeks.

Watch the winners dry up now….

Roxboro Road kicks things off for me tomorrow at Leapordstown in the opener. Really like this horse, and I bet him when he slipped up last time. Was travelling well too, though still a fair way to go. I think I’ve mentioned him before, and should be more to come. I like the ride that Simon Torrens gave Winter Escape yesterday, and I’m pleased to see him on board with his claim.

The unpredictable Fiveaftermidnight could surprise, while Best Behaviour is very interesting in Handicap company, and he’s also worth covering.

I won’t bet Champagne Classic just now. He’s short enough at 5’s, but probably still good value. I’ll only bet him if any earlier returns. He’s surely as good as any of these.

I won’t have a big bet in The Matheson, but I threw a few quid the way of Sharjah at 6’s. I’m more interested in him for The Champion Hurdle, as I’ve mentioned before, so I might as well support him tomorrow.

She’s hard to be totally confident on, but at 25’s, I could see Mary Frances make the frame. I’m being greedy, and trying to get bigger.

Away from Leapordstown, I’m very keen on Catamaran Du Seuil, he’s a decent sort, and I’m happy to see Sam Twiston Davies up.

    Roxboro Road 9’s
    Catamaran Du Seuil 9’s
    Sharjah 6’s
    Fiveaftermidnight EW 5 Places
    Best Behaviour EW 5 Places

    Thanks Istabraq and Grass.

    Really decent day again.

Rule 4 for Sharjah, but still happy with that 6’s.

Highlight obviously that 1210 at Leapordstown. Best Behaviour, I got 20’s and 14’s, and Fiveaftermidnight 33’s. The Forecast was a bonus.

Comfortable lay in running on Catamaran Du Seuil as well, and scraped a profit. I was still a wee bit disappointed though.

It was too early to say how Roxboro Road would have fared. I was in process of setting up a lay in running for him just seconds after the off, when his price changed to 1000’s just as I was about to submit bet. At least I knew my fate with him early.

Least said about Mary Frances the better.

Been a great few days, but nothing doing tomorrow.

Smashing days racing, I love the racing for New Years Day.

    Cheltenham
The 1250 is my type of race, and I’ve taken a chance with Commodore. This is a tough wee race, but still easier than Newbury. Kingswell Theatre is the saver, quite simply because he’s due.

Champ is obviously one of the star names today, but I honestly think that Midnight Shadow will give him something to think about.

I’ve always liked Ex Patriot, and good to see him back here. Kicking myself for not taking the 16’s Antepost, but was happy with 11’s last night. Really keen, and my only concern is that this will be a “sighter”. Derek O’Connor on board has me thinking Kim Muir, but this is a nice prize itself today. Kalashnikov is a very underrated horse, and I’ve bet him too.

I couldn’t leave The Jam Man alone, and 9’s was too big for connections who’ve been quite open about the big races they’re eyeing.

    Musselburgh
I had a small Antepost on Aristo Du Plessis for The Hogmaneigh Hurdle, but the fact that I can get bigger now is a worry, but I’ll go in again anyway.

In the big Chase, I’m taking a chance with Lake Takapuna. I’ll cover Western Miller as a saver if any earlier returns.

    Fakenham
Took the 9’s for Midnightreflection, far too big on his Sandown run.

    Tramore
All about Voix Du Reve here, and I’m hoping for him being 15 lengths away from the winner with The Thyestes in mind.

    Commodore 10’s
    Kingswell Theatre 14’s
    Midnight Shadow 9-2
    Ex Patriot 11’s
    Kalashnikov 9-2
    The Jam Man 9’s
    Aristo Du Plessis EW
    Midnightreflection 9’s

Very average day yesterday, but thankfully Midnight Shadow got me out of jail. He was biggest bet of the day along with Ex Patriot. Very pleasing, as I put up The Dipper as the right race for him a few months back on here.

Happy enough with Ex Patriot, and I should have laid off, but I didn’t. Lalor was a late EW in that race, so he was a welcome return at 28’s.

Another late addition was my old nemesis Project Bluebook, who I comfortably laid off close to home. I’d much rather mention him than Aristo in the same race. I bet him at 25’s, and I could get 50’s before the off. Enough said.

Midnightreflection was a bigger loser. I had more on her than I usually would, but I’m certain I’ll be getting that back soon from her. Wrong track I think.

Veterans Final, a race I really look forward to, and after fancying a handful in the lead up, I’ll stick with old Theatre Guide. Just turned 13, but weighted to run well in a race which he ran very well in last year. Yes, he’s got a patchy profile, and doesn’t win too often, but he often bounces back from lesser efforts, and I think tomorrow is the day for him. Quite keen on him.

The rest of the Sandown Card I’ll swerve, but at a very short price I’ll be watching the performance of Johnbb, as I think he’s an interesting one for The Close Bros.

I’ve bet Rock On Fruity twice in the last year here, and to be honest, he’s been pretty dire on both occasions. Still, he’s got some other course form, he’s below his last winning mark, and gets his ground. This might be a prep for a repeat bid for The Eider, but at the price, few quid won’t hurt. Same goes for Acdc, and the 25’s was mad.

I’ll have one bet at Wincanton, and even though he’s a fair price it’ll be win only on Jeremy Sunshine. He looks more of a slow burner, but he looks worth a smaller bet.

At Lingfield, a horse I was looking forward to On the Flat last year, the long absent Cliffs Of Dooneen, returns. Questions to answer, not least over this trip, but like Jeremy Sunshine, a small win bet won’t hurt.

Nice card at Cork, and a horse I’ve been waiting out, Recent Revelations, finally looks worth a bet. Jack Kennedy booked, last run was promising, and he’s a mad each way price.

Later on the card, I think this is the right trip for old Flaxen Flare, and he looks very worth a go, as does Sonny B, who shaped well last time, and has a decent enough claimer up.

    Theatre Guide 18’s EW 4pls
    Recent Revelations 14’s EW
    Flaxen Flare 20’s EW
    Sonny B Win

    Rock On Fruity Win
    Acdc Win 25’s EW
    Jeremy Sunshine Win
    Cliffs Of Dooneen 11’s Win

A few in there at big prices, so I’ll be looking to lay in running for them, even the smaller bets.

    1330 Newcastle
Rock On Fruity, Acdc, Sam’s Adventure
    Veterans Final
Theatre Guide, Vieux Lion Rouge, Regal Flow
    20p Combination Exactas and Trifectas

    -£97.39

Very very happy with that today.

Things couldn’t have started better, with Recent Revelations coming in at 16’s. He was a fair fancy, and one of my biggest winners of the season.

Theatre Guide would have been even better, but agonisingly close in the end. He was one of my biggest bets of the season, so a very nice each way, and a decent lay as well.

That pair were the highlights of the bigger bets. Flaxen Flare wasn’t in the same league as those bets, but I had s good few quid on Sonny B. Both were very poor.

Of the smaller ones, Cliffs Of Dooneen got me a profit, but the Newcastle race was a waste. (Edit, poor Jeremy Sunshine was lost, glad I missed it)

Saturdays can be hard work, but very happy with four very profitable ones in a row. Probably for the best, with the dreaded “Classic Chase Saturday” approaching.

    A quiet enough Sunday.

At Naas, Envoi Allen looks a good thing, but I’ll stick with Midnight Run as possible EW value. His last run would see him underpriced, but based on his previous runs, then the current 22’s is great. Hard to call, but I’m hoping he nabs second. I’ve taken that 22’s, but hoping to top up bigger.

It would be nice for him to get back on track, as it would rejuvenate some Antepost bets I’m close to binning.

Not much else doing, but I’ll have an EW go on Limerick Lord at Southwell, while back at Naas, I’ll chsnce Mc Alpine for the win at around 8’s.

I really did think that Midnight Run could be decent, but that’s two abysmal runs now, and difficult to see where he goes now.

He was obviously main bet today, but the other pair were much better.

Limerick Lord looked the winner until close home, but he was still a nice each way at 14’s. He wasn’t the biggest bet in the world, but was happy with that, and even happier with Mc Alpine. Took 10’s, and I got a decent profit as he absolutely strolled into it, looking the winner all the way. Unfortunately Abraham strolled into it even better, and mugged him. Still, decent return, getting my Midnight Run stake back.

That was a “get out of jail” with Mc Alpine, so I should stop there after this run, but with Dolphin Vista out, I’ll have a rare Monday play.

He’s outsider of the four, and he owes me nothing, but I’ll have a go.

I’ll throw this trio in, like them for a variety of reasons, but Bignorm is interesting at a price if he can go on the ground.

He’d be main fancy, but I’ll have same amount on him and Dolphin, with lesser amounts on other pair. I’ll top up Dolphin if he goes bigger.

1335 Ayr – Plan Of Escape
    1425 Chepstow – Bignorm 14’s EW 5pls
    1525 Ayr – McGowans Pass 11-2
    1915 Wolverhampton – Dolphin Vista 11-2

Happy with that 11-2 on McGowans Pass as he won easy, but down on the day, so hopefully that will be me until Saturday hopefully.

I was a bit sad yesterday when The Gold Cup Entries were released, as this is normally the day when I see how my book is fairing, but as I gave it a miss this year, was definitely a bit of an anticlimax.

On the plus side, I didn’t miss that sinking feeling, when my “dark” ones didn’t get an entry. I’ll probably chip away at a few now.

I’ve loved doing the big exchange bets for nearly ten years, but they’re almost non existent this year.

The only two I’ve added so far are in The Arkle, a race that’s rarely of interest to me, and one in The Ryanair. I don’t think Annamix would be good enough, but I’m hoping a win at the weekend would see me get a free bet, while Cadmium, who blew me away at Aintree, looked too big for The Ryanair.

Couldn’t resist a couple in Ireland tomorrow.

I think that Monty’s Mission has a win in him, and I was happy for a go at the 7’s, while Johan The Great, is one I’m not giving up on, and I’m hopeful of bigger than 13-2.

Some nice races about today, but betting opportunities limited, which is a good thing, as this is never a good weekend for me.

It’s very rare I go with the fav in a big Handicap Chase, but in The Classic Chase, I’m with The Conditional. I’m still considering Crosspark as well.

The Lanzarote is tricky as ever, but I’m going for the rag, Eragon De Chanay. Just trying to get 40’s, 50’s, though I’m sure I’ll take my pick at Exchange prices. Already bet Gortroe Joe at 28’s. Elsewhere on the card I’m with Erick La Rouge at 12’s.

The Dan Moore Chase is a belter, but no idea what to do, as left with three at the moment, Articulum, Blazer, and Us and Them.

Hoping Annamix can do me a turn for my Arkle bet, while elsewhere on the card, Mister Eddman is a nice type, though like Annamix, too short for me.

In The Pertemps Qualifier, got a quandary with Tedham. If he wins tomorrow, I think he’ll get an entry in The Stayers. If he’s first six, he’ll probably go to The Final for sure. I’m happy with my 33’s for that, but I’d sacrifice it for an outsiders price in The Stayers, and as it is, I’m now very interested in It’s All Guesswork for The Final as well, and he’s also at Warwick. All that roughly translates as “I don’t know what I want to happen in this”. No bet in this one is the only confident call I can make.

If any earlier luck, I’ll bet Valadom at Wetherby.

    Erick La Rouge 12’s
    The Conditional 9-2
    Eragon De Chanay EW
    Gortroe Joe 28’s

    Possibles
    Crosspark
    Valadom
