The International is now at Newmarket on Saturday. Will DoM and NA run? The going is supposed to be good, well, it was earlier in the week anyway. Should be ideal ground though for both. Really hope they both run.

Wouldn’t think so- I’d imagine the original 48 hr decs will stand.
The RP has the declarations for Saturday as at the 5-day stage at York; similarly for the E=burgh at Newbury, Friday.
August 21, 2008 at 10:08 #177548As mouth watering as
the old champion
and Fantastic Light and Galileo.
I am a valued supporter of the Duke
but was nailing my emotions to the Derby winner
rating him a nudge better
I’ll wait for the day
Should be a tight finish.
Look out for Swain
he loves the rain.August 21, 2008 at 20:26 #177589This rearranged race will be down to which horse will find that little bit extra over the last 2 furlongs. Both look tough classy animals but New Approach is surely the better and tougher animal despite being a year younger.
You had to admire how DOM fought back last time to gain what was in fact an easy win in the end.
The big question is, what would he have done had that been New Approach who had headed him?
I expect there to be a tussle as DOM travels real well but when push comes to shove, and it will, NA will put him firmly in his place.
I simply don’t think DOM has enough going for him to take on and defeat a horse who was a very very good Derby winner.
New Approach, for me, will be all the rage for the Arc after he knocks DOM of his pedestal.
August 21, 2008 at 22:38 #177600DOM is a good horse but New Approach has always looked like a special horse to me. If New Approach doesnt win by more than two lengths I’m going to be disappointed in him. Im hoping to see a jaw dropping performance.
August 21, 2008 at 23:01 #177602The ground is good to firm. Duke Of Marmalade is not just going to win, he will hammer him. The same people have been putting up alternatives to Ballydoyle horses all season in hope for than anything else, no doubt ye’ll eventually get it right but not in this instance. New Approach lost his chance when York’s soft ground meeting was cancelled.
Perhaps after Saturday DOM will finally get the credit he deserves….
August 22, 2008 at 03:39 #177615Duke Of Marmalade was in the British surroundings whilst New Approach was about to depart from Ireland, no?
Just a thought – if NA is still at Coolcullen and DoM is not at Ballydoyle, and the current issues with Irish training regimes and the terrible weather – would DoM be receiving slightly better training in the lead-up?
August 22, 2008 at 04:08 #177617frankly i am at a loss to understand what the current issues are with Irish regimes. Could you enlighten me?
August 22, 2008 at 04:50 #177618???
I meant the current training regime would be hampered by the terrible weather.
August 22, 2008 at 08:22 #177627DOM travelled to England but came back on the same day.
August 22, 2008 at 09:43 #177636At the likely prices, it has to be New Approach for me. Thats the key. I would definately have them closer.
August 22, 2008 at 09:48 #177639The word ‘firm’ in the going puts me off, but if rain manages to remove that then New Approach is infinitely better value IMO. The uphill finish will make it a real test, and I can see him nicking a bit of a lead coming out of the dip which the Duke will struggle to answer to.
August 22, 2008 at 10:34 #177645If it’s good to soft or softer, New Approach for me.
Zip
August 22, 2008 at 10:35 #177647Going at HQ is now good following overnight rain though it is predicted to dry out so may become GF by Sat. Newbury is GS and good in places and predicted to dry out also.
August 22, 2008 at 10:40 #177652If G-to-F helps in price for New Approach, then I’m all for it!

11/10 and 15/8 currently?
August 22, 2008 at 17:10 #177714A fascinating renewal of the great race.
Although competitive, I’d be disappointed if either of the two main players doesn’t claim this prestigious event.
Duke Of Marmalade is the best horse in the country and arguably Europe at the moment.
Four runs, four wins and four Group Ones this season make him the one to beat.
Connections won’t be too disappointed with the switch of venue, DOM has failed to win in three attempts on a left-handed track. The quicker ground will be in his favour and if the rain stays away he’ll be hard to beat.
Jim Bolger should be delighted that Newmarket has been chosen to stage the Juddmonte. New Approach won the Dewhurst here last year and was only just beaten by top miler Henrythenavigator in the Guineas.
I think New Approach will be ridden fairly handy and Newmarket certainly plays to the strengths of this strong galloping type.
Phoenix Tower, winner of the Earl Of Sefton, will run his usual solid race, but I fancy the Brian Meehan-trained CAT JUNIOR to sneak third.
His previous two efforts, fourth in the St James’ Palace Stakes and likewise in the Prix Jean Prat, were incredible given his inexperience. He’s sure to improve further on only his fifth outing and he’ll appreciate the step up in trip. If the rain stays away, he could even figure in the finish.
If the ground stays Good, then the change of venue will prove decisive and I fancy NEW APPROACH to defeat THE DUKE.
My idea of the first three
1 New Approach
2 Duke Of Marmalade
3 Cat Junior - AuthorPosts
