I have a few quid on Multidimensional e/w at 25/1 at the 4 day stage and so long as there are 8 runners I think I may be ok as I think he has a solid e/w chance with the ground and distance.
August 18, 2008 at 11:03 #177275RP report has AOB saying there is a doubt about DOM running due to heavy ground, a decision is expected today. He has eased to evens while NA is a short as 7-4.
Fingers crossed they leave him in.
I agree about Multidimensional having a good ew chance as he proved at Haydock he acts on heavy though the race may come a bit quick for him.
August 18, 2008 at 13:11 #177288New Approach will be unbackable if Duke Of Marmalade withdraws.
August 18, 2008 at 13:15 #177289Great news AOB confirms DOM will take his chance. The main worry now is will the course be fit for racing though latest news suggest it is.
August 18, 2008 at 17:52 #177303The Duke hasn’t much of a chance in this ground
August 18, 2008 at 18:12 #177306AOB said:
Conditions are far from ideal for him [DOM], but the owners are prepared to let him take his chance.
This sounds to me that AOB is reluctant to let him run but has been overruled. Btw, he usually calls them "the lads", not "the owners".
August 18, 2008 at 18:13 #177307Why do so many write the duke off because of the grd??????? yes he has done 95% of his racing on faster grd,but the 2times he has run on soft grd he won and was 3rd,the grd was pretty soft at ascot last yr when he was 3rd behind romonti. You could understand if he had run on softer grd before and had disappointed but thats not the case,He is a big horse and i dont think he will have any problem with the grd 2moro,i might be wrong but we wont know untill 3.30 2moro atfernoon

Because the trainer probably knows what hes talking about
August 18, 2008 at 20:37 #177327If he drifts a little more I’ll be backing the Duke- he is the older race-fit horse and should be a big favourite over a 3 year old who’s been off since the Derby. The match bet might be worth doing with the spread firms.
August 18, 2008 at 22:36 #177353New approach has never run below par and bolger has never put him (or teofilo) out under par. Will be expecting him to romp home tomorrow. The classiest horse in the race by some way and has everything in his favour for a demolition job, couldnt bet against him.
Biggest Clash of the year IMO. Cant wait.
August 18, 2008 at 22:58 #177355With his recent muscle problems there’s got to be a doubt about New Approach making his come back on bottomless ground, no?
August 18, 2008 at 23:38 #177359His muscle problems (which lets face it have only kept him out for 1.5 months, since he was pulled from the irish derby) have led to an all too convenient avoidance of the gd-fm period, he was only pulled from the irish derby with problems when it became clear that he race would be on gd-fm. Suddenly he is back in race which has looked like his race all season, should he challenge it.
All season I have been waiting for these two to clash at this trip on this (well maybe not as bad) ground, and my preference has always been for NA. Sure it is possible that he may not run to form, despite being a model of consistency his whole career, but that can happen to any horse in any race (dylan thomas in this race two years ago for example) and so I am not overly concerned, thats something you accept before you put your money down.
We will know more by tomorrow but for now I am keeping faith in the class horse of the race, DOM is shorter in price, has never appeared a match for na, is giving weight (weight for age I realise) and doesnt look to have his ideal ground conditions, it makes no sense to me from the way I see both horses to bet against NA.
August 19, 2008 at 07:50 #177369I wonder if TDK will go for his Red Rock Canyon place bet again- doesn’t look bad value at 66/1 1/4 first 3- might even start bigger, and in front might be the place to be on this ground…..
August 19, 2008 at 15:51 #177421New Approach was apparently pulled out before the abandonment so does this mean that he wouldn’t be able to run if they raced on Fri?
August 19, 2008 at 22:02 #177441Wouldn’t think so- I’d imagine the original 48 hr decs will stand.
August 20, 2008 at 11:23 #177471AFAIK NA was en route until the course contacted Bolger whereupon they returned to the stables. DOM had already landed here.
