Thanks for the lovely messages guys.

I have to say it yet again and some of you will be tired at me for banging this drum repeatedly but that ride on Bonne Idee just now was bordering on criminal. You may say it’s pocket talk but you can’t say I didn’t highlight it when I posted the bet. She needs to be ridden positively. They absolutely crawled for 10 furlongs and then sprinted for 2. She was never going to win a sprint. What’s makes it even more bewildering is that she was ridden so much more positively first time out and won by 6 lengths. I know it was only a maiden but she galloped all the way to the line and looked a really nice filly (hence the reason she has gone off odds on both times since). I really have to ask myself what is going on with connections when they don’t see what is so plainly obvious. We are talking about a top class trainer and a top jockey here. Mind blowing.

I’ll say it one more time – Frankel’s don’t quicken. They gallop and they don’t stop. That ability to gallop for longer than the opposition is what should be their advantage. Frankel himself DID quicken but, for whatever reason. he hasn’t passed that down. But he HAS passed down that long stride and that stamina. Jockeys and trainers must wake up to it if they want to get the most out of their Frankel’s. I doubt that horse even broke sweat today.

If you were to take a Frankel colt and a Kingman colt of about similar ability (say 100-rated) and put them in a match race, the slower the pace the more likely the Kingman would be to win. They would achieve their maximum ratings very differently. I reckon that filly today is capable of running to 110 at least off a decent pace. Off a crawl she is no more than a 90-rated filly.

Of course as a punter you have to learn from all this. I won’t be backing another Frankel in France because the jockeys won’t alter the style of French racing (ie crawling) to suit the horse.

    Anyway – rant over. And…..breeeeeaaaathe!!!

A couple of bets today. I like the 3 year olds weight allowance at this time of year so have had a few quid on Final Song who ran well for a long way in the Guineas. Also I have heard that Alignak has been going well at home.

    £50win Aklignak – 9-2 – Haydock 6.25 lost
    £50 win Final Song – 8-1 – Haydock 6.55 lost
    £10ew double

I like alignac today too joni

Look like a lot of plodders in the race that would prefer further than 1m4f

And alignak showed a smart turn of foot to get up despite meeting trouble in running last time

I’ve just had a look at that Conditions races at 6.55 Haydock Joni and before I came here had put tenner on Final Song I hope she comes home for us.
It was close between herself and Mubtasim but the ground might not be to his liking. Could be a rev.forecast though.
    Best of luck :good: Jac

Looked like alignac was in front before and after the line

But trueshan had his head down as they passed the winning post

Thought alignac had outbattled him but he came back again in the final strides

Yes – I thought he’d won it going past the line Jac! So near yet so far.

Plenty of bets today including a newcomer for the under-rated Chris Wall by Kingman who could outrun his odds judging by gallops reports….

    £25ew Solid Stone – 15-2 – York 2.30 lost
    £25ew Al Raya – 16-1 – York 3.05 placed
    £25ew Kingmania – 25-1 – Newbury 1.40 lost
    £25ew Cabaletta – 9-1 – Newbury 3.25 winner (12-1)
    £25ew Memorabilis – 5-1 – Curragh 4.45 lost
    £100 win Ennistyman – 5-2 – Curragh 7.15 lost
    £1ew Heinz

So unlucky with Al Raya Joni but EW great price so nothing lost.

Cabaletta did it well for you. :good:
Can’t believe she went off 12/1.

Good luck at the Curragh this evening taking on your Ennistymon with Snow.. :rose: Jac

    +£1,223.31

Thanks Jac and FF – yes just going through one of those phases where I lose every close photo finish! In my experience that evens out in the end so we’ll keep going. Lovely win from Cabaletta who is one to follow and I was even pleased with Kingmania who wasn’t given a hard ride and will be a nice filly for Chris Wall.

A couple of races take the eye today. As we saw yesterday, this is a good time of year for 3-year-olds to be taking on their elders and I have gone for a couple of likely types in the Group 3 at York. Jovial looks the potential class filly in the race and Dark Angel could run a nice race at a big price if she can recapture her form of last year.

For once it wasn’t a great day for the Master at the Curragh yesterday but I expect him to have a better day today and I think he has a typical improver in Lovelier. She only ran last week but was impressive and could go in again.

    £25ew Jovial – 9-2 – York 3.05 lost
    £25ew Dark Lady 14-1 – York 3.05 lost
    £25ew Lovelier 9-2 – Curragh 4.15 placed
    £10ew double

I do love a nice early ante post bet and I think I’ve found one today. Watch a replay of the 1.05 at Newbury and tell me Pomelo isn’t a filly to get excited about. Beautifully bred being out of Group 1 winner Emulous and by Dubawi, this imposing filly travelled like a dream and then quickened in taking style despite running green. Who knows what she beat but she will go to Glorious Goodwood in a couple of weeks and I like the look of her so have had a dabble at 40-1.

    £50ew Pomelo – 40-1 – 2021 1,000 Guineas

A couple of confident bets for today.

    £100 win Indigo Lake – 5-2 – Sandown 7.00 lost
    £50 win double

How funny Joni I backed both of those horses (French Asset and Indigo Lake) on their last runs and both were frustrating seconds (Indigo Lake especially) so my fingers and toes are well and truly crossed for you today mate!!

COOOOME ON THE FRENCH AND INDIGO LADS!!!!!

They were both terrible weren’t they Ben?! Not to be trusted again..

I’ll keep my powder dry for next week. I was tempted with Elarqam but he never wins when I back him so I’ll let him win today. Enable SHOULD win but is too short. So just the one bet for a horse who is well handicapped and was unlucky last time.

    £50ew Blue Mist 5-1 – Ascot 2.25 winner

Thanks Jac. Yes I think it’s time to draw stumps with him to be honest. Hoping Franconia wins well today.
Just the one race of interest for me today and I’ve backed two Gosden 3-year-olds with a nice weight-for-age pull.
A quick word about The Queen. We are so blessed to have her so soon after we had the pleasure of Frankel. Watching her yesterday honestly brought tears to my eyes. It’s a long time since I backed her but I don’t need a penny on her. It’s just sheer delight watching her win time after time after time. The moment she glided up to Sovereign yesterday with Frankie taking a pull and then casually removing his goggles was goosebump time. She’s the best filly/mare we’ve ever had the privilege to watch and we will miss her when she does finally retire to the paddocks. A glorious triumvirate of best ever mare with one of the best ever jockeys trained by one of the best ever trainers. In these dark times of death and division she is a shining light and I love her to bits.

    £25ew Love and Thunder – 10-1 – Ascot 3.05 lost
    £25ew Shimmering – 9-1 – Ascot 3.05 lost
