Hi all! Hope everyone is keeping safe and sane! What a year hey?! Jesus – total nightmare. But here we are and (fingers crossed) it looks like we’ll finally be up and running next week. I don’t know about you but I CAN”T WAIT!!! Should be seriously exciting as well with all those group races to catch up on and the Classics on the first weekend. Such a shame not to be able to be there to watch it all but, there you go.

I thought I’d give this another crack this year to try and make up for last year. I’m hoping that I’ll be back to winning ways – I certainly have plenty of time on my hands to study the form as my work has been decimated!

As always I would really value your contributions – it’s why I do it to be honest. So please get involved as much as you like..

I was also thinking of adding a new twist this year. Because we can’t meet face to face – how about we meet up on Zoom for a little preview of the racing? We could do this as little or as often as there is appetite. I’d be happy to host the chats and you can either just listen or you can take part. We can share views, tips, thoughts on the weekend’s racing etc. I thought we might kick it off next week once we know the decs for Newmarket..? So maybe next Thursday or Friday. Let me know if you are interested – my email is jon@speakthespeech.co.uk Could be fun!

One AP bet I’m bringing over from last year –

    £100 win Quadrilateral – 14-1 – 1,000 Guineas – loser

Nice to have you back Joni :bye:
Glad you’re all set to go and wish you luck with Quadrilateral… :good:

As you will already know I’m so missing being at Newmarket this season and can’t wait for Monay when the flat season kicks off at Newcastle AW ¡At Last!..

I don’t have access to Zoom Joni my son tried to get it going for me while testing it out for his wife’s NHS meeting but we have such a lousy signal here it keeps crashing  but I’ll be interested in everyone’s thoughts as the season goes on.. :good:

I still have high hopes of perhaps Newmarket getting going for the October Future Champions Meeting but waiting to hear from the organisers.. so far they want us to carry over our Memberships to 2021 so not holding out much hope.

Best of luck Joni..again it’s great to have you back. :rose: Jac x

    Joni’s bak! :good:
Sad to see your work has dried up with this covid thing, mine is non-existant and no government hand outs for gamblers either (wouldn’t that be nice). At least you’ll have more time to make more money at this game… As long as not letting Frankelmania cloud your judgement. :rose: He’s bloody good but can’t work miracles.

    Am with you on Quadrilateral.
Do you think having the Guineas postponed has actually helped her chance quite a bit? Roger Charlton’s record in early May is pretty poor tbh.

By the way, isn’t Mark older, Nathan :-) ?
Then it’s probably your great humour, you’ll be the winner over JK anytime when it comes to this :bye:
And, not to forget, I hope and wish :rose: you’re up on your feet again :bye:

Great to hear from you guys. Yes, Mark will do my best not to let my love of the great horse cloud my judgement. I think he’ll have a good season though as trainers get to learn about how to train his progeny and (more importantly) jockeys learn how to ride them..! I agree with you about the later start helping Quadrilateral but my worry is that she’ll still improve massively for the run and for a bit further. Put it this way, if someone offered me a swap for the same price on the Oaks I’d take it. The big dangers on fast ground will be Millisle and Love.

Best of luck to you too HB and NW!!

Looking at the likely runners for the 1,000 Guineas this morning and I’m convinced the winner will come from the Fillies Mile. I’m happy to be on Quadrilateral at a good price and I think she will win Group 1 races this year but I’m just a little worried by a couple of things. First, her trainer is not exactly a dab hand at preparing them first time. I know the season has started later and that would be to her advantage but these early races are going to depend a lot on which trainers have their horses more forward than others. How forward will she be? Not sure. Second, I’ve watched the replay of that Newmarket race many times and you can’t help being concerned by the flat spot she hits going down the hill. She must have been 100-1 in running a furlong out and, whist she finished powerfully up the hill to win, that was on sluggish ground. I would worry that on the likely quicker ground she might not be able to overhaul them again if running similar to last time. I still think she has a favourites chance as she was always going to improve a lot from 2 to 3 and she was still very inexperienced last backend but I am going to cover myself with a bet on what I think is definitely her biggest danger.

If you watch Love’s races last year there is a big difference between when she ran on quick ground verses slow. Her win over Daahyeh in the Moyglare was super impressive. She is very uncomplicated and Ryan will have her sitting handy knowing that she has the stamina for further and knowing that once she quickens on that fast ground she will be hard to peg back. She was far from disgraced on the slower ground at Newmarket beaten only just over a length and, of course, we know there are no problems with HER trainer readying one first time. She will surely go close.

So for me it’s a match between those two and we’ll see who is best on the day.

    £100 win Love – 10-1 – 1,000 Guineas – winner

Definitely with you on Love Joni :rose: I did manage to squeeze 11’s out of Paddy Power last week with a Power Up. Surprised you didn’t go each way on her. She’s a beautiful looking filly.

Have you had a look at Peaceful’s run against Born With Pride in the Montrose up the Rowley Mile (7f) Joni as I’d be really interested what you thought of her run…I was there that final meeting (happy days) but the conditions were terrible and although BWP slipped the field Peaceful so impressed me with her late run..she looked as though she has a flatter action and would not have liked the ground but the speed that she came with in the last throws of the race really impressed me..had to take the 20’s currently available EW.

Have to hope that both fillies go to Newmarket as they both have entries in tbe Irish Guineas and later in the Pretty Polly but I’m 100% certain that these are AOB’s best fillies for the season.

Really miss not having had the Nell Gwyn as a guide it usually throws up a decent type for the 1000 Guineas.

Look forward to your thoughts on Peaceful Joni when you get a moment. :good: Jac

Hi Jac – slight change of tack this year with ew’s. I’ll be backing most to win.

It certainly wouldn’t be a massive shock if Peaceful won. How many times have we seen an Aiden 2nd or 3rd string beat a more fancied stablemate – especially early on in the season? I see what you mean about her action being more suited to quick ground. She has a lot to make up on the form book and she didn’t look like she was in love with the dip at Newmarket but worth watching for signs in the betting over the next few days and at 20-1, why not? Best of luck!

:good: Thanks for that Joni, she has grabbed my attention and I didn’t want to get starry eyed about her chances based on that run. She is an interesting prospect but whether she has improved enough to beat her half sister and Quadrilateral we have to wait and see, I can’t wait to see all 3 of these fillies again.

I’m a bit like you with the each way bets and do prefer to back on the nose but with the two Guineas favs being so well supported it has sent me off on the EW track.
    .best of luck.. :bye: Jac

Thanks HB – looked in trouble for a second but knuckled down well. He’d drifted to a decent price.
