Well to say he isnt a monster is slightly off, if you compare thistlecracks career at yorkhills stage in his career, yorkhill is marketdly more successful
You’re correct in the fact that thistlecrack was no monster at the age that yorkhill is. But thistlecrack was a later developer which is unusual in a monster but obviously not impossible.
However to compare yorkhill form to date as a novice hurdler and now a novice chaser and come to the conclusion that he is monster just because he’s better than thistlecrack at this stage is ridiculous. This is because there are literally dozens of horses who are just as good if not better than thistlecrack was as say a 6 year old but you won’t get dozens of monsters lol
Not saying yorkhill won’t become a monster but the comparison you made is pretty ridiculousJanuary 23, 2017 at 23:10 #1283524What’s a monster? I thought they were all horses.
January 23, 2017 at 23:34 #1283527what’s that coming over the hill?
January 24, 2017 at 09:09 #128354420s is a fair price for him at this stage. Do you have a view on Nicholls other runner Frodon? He’s rated higher and is at least 5 points bigger. Im dismissing Clan Des Obeaux as i think he excels on a flatter surface.
Frodon looks a lovely prospect as well, but for a young horse he has had an unbelievably tough season.Actually really surprised at the way Nicholls has campaigned him, usually less is more with him.
January 24, 2017 at 11:30 #1283556Gord, Here is the news…
Altior beats Ar Mad and the best of the UK’s two-milers in the Game Spirit, beats them hollow. Nicky knows if he runs him in the QM then about 3 others will take on Altior and Douvan (a bit like Thistlecrack and Cue Card scaring off the others in the KG).
The Arkle is then there for Yorkhill’s taking (more suitable race, anyway).
In the above way I’d say Whisper maybe runs in the JLT, but even at that I think he’s a stayer and might opt for the RSA.
Well Joe if ‘Yorkhill’ does run in the Arkle Whisper goes off 3/1 fav for the JLT…I do hope you are right there pal.so much so that I’ve just had another £50 e/w on Nickys horse at Ladbrokes this time.
As far as him running in the RSA I’d say its 1/3 JLT…2/1 RSA…Its always better for a horse who gets 3m to drop down in trip than a horse who wins over 21/2m going over 3m…’Bladebuster’ I hope you are keeping up here?Nicky ‘Whispered’ JLT yesterday to a ‘Tweet’ I sent him..10/1 this morning!
January 24, 2017 at 11:43 #1283558Min has looked the better chaser this season. We keep hearing about Yorkhill being a monster but he hasn’t shown it yet over fences. That race yesterday was nothing special at all.
Continually winning without looking a monster, is in itself, a trait that often makes monsters monsters
Not really. Sprinter was one. Thistlecrack is one. Yorkhill isn’t one.
Yorkhill is 7 and will continue to improve over fences. Highly likely we have yet to see him at his best and Ham is spot on – if you compare thistlecracks career at yorkhills stage in his career, yorkhill is marketdly more successful, which isn’t really debateable. Yorkhill is a monster.
January 24, 2017 at 12:06 #1283562Yorkhill the 6/4fav for the JLT is twitching at 3.8 on the machine currently.
January 24, 2017 at 12:08 #1283563Anything to do with Mullins’ comments that he may take him back over hurdles?
January 24, 2017 at 12:10 #1283565Betting suspended on JLT now!!
January 24, 2017 at 12:14 #1283567Min has gone from 33s down to 12s in some places for the JLT
January 24, 2017 at 12:15 #1283568Betting suspended for initial entry stage.
January 24, 2017 at 12:16 #1283569It could be nothing or it could be the start of the Mullins-go-round
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 24, 2017 at 12:17 #1283570Doesn’t take much to move those markets in January.
January 24, 2017 at 13:10 #1283578Mullins comments were purely based on next season, unlikely much would be changed 7 weeks out, theyv targeted min for the arkle, ricci isnt going to give up a live chance in the arkle because there contemplating dropping a wylie horse in distance, if min were to run a shocker on sunday, maybe, highly doubt it
January 26, 2017 at 13:58 #1283850He has no chance of going to any other race. Anyone who understands the behaviour of Willie Mullins will know that for sure.
He wants to win all the Grade 1’s
He has Min for The Arkle, who is a better jumper than Yorkhill. Min, Yorkhill and Bellshill seem to be his best Novice Chasers so they will go to the Arkle, JLT and RSA respectively.
He has Annie Power, Faugheen, Nichols Canyon, and if he was really stuck, Vroum Vroum Mag for the Champion Hurdle. Yorkhill is going to one race and one race only and that’s the JLT.
The problem here is the use of ” no chance ” and anyone who really understands Mullins will know never to use that term in the context of race management. Anyone with your username should realise that.
Ceteris paribus, Yorkhill is running in the JLT. However, the stable are now one star short for the Champion Hurdle and that itself draws Yorkhill closer to a run in the Champion Hurdle. Faugheen runs / scopes poorly and what then ?

Quod quidem esse non potest, ut – there is no chance Douvan runs in the Ryanair. How did I do?
January 26, 2017 at 22:46 #1283936This is my worst book of the Fez by far. -£39, spunked on Aux Ptits Soins (that was RSA insurance), Cloudy Dream at 65s-80s before Buveur D’Air destroyed him, Don’t Touch It (not entered, runs in the novice handicap?) and Drumlee Sunset (not entered, not good enough). I’m not green on a single runner. £25 on Buveur D’Air to win any race at 7/1 might save me, but this is a horror race for me. Got Politologue in a couple of multiples. I just can’t get a hold on these mid-Championship races – JLT and Ryanair. I need 2m or 3m to go on!
