It wasn’t the answer to March GM , I’d question both the 2 in front getting up the Cheltenham hill , if the ground is to his suiting I reckon he’ll beat them , is everyone confident Paul’s getting off him …

“FTF won the Ryanair last year and doesn’t yet hold a Gold Cup entry.”

    He can be supplemented.

“Why Mullins runs him here (well supported too) but doesn’t put him in the Gold Cup is beyond me too.”

Mullins said on RTV that McManus and Berry took the decision to not enter Fact To File in the Gold Cup. Which indicates they think he won’t stay.

However, after that performance and another poor run from last year’s Gold Cup winner, it is difficult to think they won’t supplement Fact To File. They don’t really have anything else for the Gold Cup, with Spillanes Tower not looking good enough.

It looks like Majborough for the Champion Chase, Jonbon for the Ryanair (as said by Henderson after the Clarence House) and Fact To File for the Gold Cup, with the supplementary fee mere small change for McManus.

    Willie Mullins has spoken…

“I thought Galopin was doing plenty up front and I think the Christmas race took a bit out of him. That will put him right for Cheltenham and he’ll come back a lot stronger after that race. What he did in these two runs shows me he still has plenty left in the tank.”

Mullins left options open for runner-up Gaelic Warrior who is entered in the Ryanair and Gold Cup next month, with the trainer encouraged by how he finished the 3m contest having raced keenly.

He said on Racing TV: “Gaelic Warrior was just doing too much throughout the race. Whether that means he goes back to the Ryanair, but he definitely stays three and a quarter miles if we want to go with the Gold Cup. I was very happy with how he finished the race.”

Mark Walsh was an average jockey before he got the McManus job. He has improved hugely for being in the job and done very well – but he is 40 now. I don’t think McManus can be blamed for putting a younger jockey he clearly rates under contract before someone else does.

For all we know, Walsh may have told McManus he is going to quit after Punchestown.

Is it possible that either last years Gold Cup was just not very good and we got overexcited by it or they both just ended each other? Galopin is miles off it this season too. I think todays outcome is great for the Ryanair and Gold Cup though because surely Gaelic and F2F go for Gold now which opens up the Ryanair albeit making it a not great race and I can see a bumper field for the Gold Cup too. I mean who would even go off favourite if neither of these two today run and go for the Ryanair? Nobody else has any form this season.

Willie’s a genius but he’s very deluded if he thinks Galopin is winning another Gold Cup. He’s barely beaten Firefox home today. Must be at least a stone below what he was showing 12 months ago when he wasn’t good enough then either

I agree that GDC is well over his best. But, what else does Willie have? GW and FTF could both go for the Ryanair though that’s highly unlikely. How many times does the Irish Gold Cup winner bypass the Cheltenham Gold Cup? Gaelic Warrior was doing his best work at the end of the race despite pulling very hard. He too, has to go for the GC.
What does JP have for the Ryanair? Jonbon isn’t really bombproof round Cheltenham and Majborough will go for the CC. A Ryanair without a JP runner is almost impossible, but we’ll see.

Skybet and Paddy Power initially went odds on Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior 3-1 for the Ryanair post race, now its Gaelic Warrior 7-4 and Fact To File 2-1

Gaelic couldn’t get near the winner , when Walsh said go he had no answer , Jonbon isn’t honorific but he’s got a very good chance in a Ryanair without FTF

How will that put him right for Cheltenham when he’s just had a harder race there than at Christmas?? 2 days less recovery time also.

I’d be amazed if he won the Gold Cup. Willie and the owners have campaigned him heavily and he looks completely finished at 10yo. He’s not a machine and running in 5 G1s per season was bound to take it’s toll.

”It wasn’t the answer to March GM”

I didn’t say it was. I just said it’s completely fecked my antepost bets as there’s absolutely no chance Fact To File runs in the Ryanair after that in my opinion.

I still fancy the English pair for the Gold Cup though Fact To File if staying and on his best day is probably a class above.

Yeah, a great chance to bring home some place money. You can bank on one horrific mistake during the race.

Remember GM that injury he had meant he came in later than FTF and Gaelic , it prob more likely be will improve , will it be enough , who knows but I still think Paul rides him and that he’ll fin in front of FTF and warrior
