If you could be sure Gaelic Warrior would settle in a Gold Cup, he’d be the one to take from that. I’ve a suspicion last year’s winner will bloom again come March, as he did last year (supplemented) and make fools of us all.
February 2, 2026 at 15:53 #1753280Btw Gaelic Warrior jumped straight bar one when Galopin came over wide

February 2, 2026 at 15:54 #1753281Maybe 40 but his riding has been pretty damn good with no evidence of any decline to warrant a jockey change at this point – not saying JP hasn’t looked after him as his retained rider but maybe the decision was a little premature in its making.
February 2, 2026 at 15:54 #1753282Prime FTF against prime Galopin there’s only one winner

February 2, 2026 at 15:54 #1753283“He’s not a speed horse Mike , he’s not the gears of FTF”
I didnt include FTF, he’s got the form and class to beat your picks Handstands and Heartwood imo should they want to go Ryanair. But they may have a go at the Gold Cup anyway so we’ll have this conversation again once we know.
February 2, 2026 at 15:56 #1753284Had FTF not run today nobody would be saying Gaelic for the Ryanair would they. Plenty of Gold Cup horses running today on testing ground and Gaelic stayed strong. He’s keen but that’s his running style. He’s nowhere near the tearaway he was a few years back

February 2, 2026 at 15:59 #1753285Willie ruins my antepost Cheltenham bets every single season.
The most unpredictable trainer ever. Damn the man.February 2, 2026 at 16:00 #1753286“Had FTF not run today nobody would be saying Gaelic for the Ryanair would they.”
Not sure about that, his odds for the Gold Cup and Ryanair were quite similar before this. A case could’ve been made for running in either of them races, and after today it’s no different really.
February 2, 2026 at 16:00 #1753287He’s not but he’s becoming the bridesmaid , there’s still a question of FTF getting up the hill in a GC , the GC is wide open …

February 2, 2026 at 16:01 #1753288Steep – Can’t say you are completely wrong in your thinking but the big difference is he has run worse in every race this season than he did in the same corresponding races last season.
This particular race especially as he was 4th last year beaten just 7L but here he was as usual never put in the race at any stage and was a mile back when barely lifting off the ground at the last (with FTF halfway up the run in).
Can you even run in the Gold Cup off the back of a tired and heavy looking fall?
February 2, 2026 at 16:04 #1753290If he’s fit he’ll go but there’s a huge black cloud over him , Willie just wanted to talk Galopin , saying he ran feeling that Xmas run …

February 2, 2026 at 16:06 #1753292The less said about the current Gold Cup holder the better. ;o)
Hopefully he’s ok after the fall.
February 2, 2026 at 16:06 #1753293Well done on Firefox, Bobby! Inspired.
February 2, 2026 at 16:06 #1753294With FTF (like HDLG has said) there would still be a slight worry over that final 2F up the Cheltenham hill as many a great 3m chaser (Wayward Lad, Florida Pearl and One Man etc) has found that extra bit beyond them and if they go a right end to end gallop he might be vunerable to a stouter stayer.

Not sure about that.. FTF won the Ryanair last year and doesn’t yet hold a Gold Cup entry. So before today’s race he was 100% the Ryanair horse

Willie knew Galopin was past his best before today. We were all questioning why both Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File were running and got our answer.
February 2, 2026 at 16:17 #1753303True , they may hold off until they see how last year’s w winner looks , they also have Jonbon to go to the Ryanair now , did the GC winner run today , on Boxing day or in Wales … I’m more likely to think the 2 latter
