Am I alone in really wanting to know what AOB was chatting to Princess Anne on the podium about after the remarkable Highland Reel won at Ascot because it was almost a shock to see him looking so animated ,expressive and unguarded in his manner.
I’m not a big fan of the multiple darts at the board approach at Ballydoyle in terms of numbers of runners but I’m increasingly frustrated by hearing the same old (albeit always gracious and polite) platitudes from AOB after the victories…really detracts from the sense of joy of victory that there should be to me…if his head is elsewhere other than wanting to be on TV at that moment then don’t do it.
I often think that even though he may not want to do the interviews, he is always very polite and appreciative of the thanks from everyone afterwards.
I like that he remains gracious and willing to give ITV interviews.
June 22, 2017 at 11:52 #1305574On a side note, that win brings up 300 Group 1 winners for AOB

That’s a staggering stat. I know he has the ammunition but that is amazing.

Best Wishes
SilkJune 22, 2017 at 12:46 #1305582Ballydoyle have excellent work riders (they pay them very good money), and a lot of the training and development of the horses is indeed down to them, so Aidan is just giving credit where credit is due when he thanks the team.

Gold Cup
Order of St. George
No joy, but 10 out of 10 for the Jamie Spencer impersonation.
June 22, 2017 at 18:00 #1305671OOSG was amazing in making up 12L off a very steady pace, only pipped by a nose, would have won in another stride. Not sure who decided the riding tactics, but that’s the third time in his last 4 big target races that he’s been beaten by riding him too far off the pace, leaving him with too much to do, when he’s the horse with the proven stamina. At least the Goodwood Cup is now a G1, and Aidan has already indicated that he’s likely to run, so he should hopefully recoup his G1 there.

Agree Sunspangled, it was just like watching last years Irish St Leger. Saying that, it was a bit like watching a replay of last years Gold Cup as well. Far too confident IMO.

June 23, 2017 at 18:43 #1305962TO, of course it is a tall order without a doubt, but certainly possible especially especially with 160+ 2 year olds this year. To be fair they don’t really get going till after Royal Ascot.
I would say if they have over 6 on the board by the end of June it could get quite close, and they will certainly be knocking up a few air miles this year. The Weld filly showed at the weekend that the US G1 races are certainly within reach.

No runner in the Final G1 at Ascot. I had hoped for 6 by the end of June, so 9 up to now has been a great effort.
Great to see some of the 3 YO’s improve this week, with Spirit of Valour, Roly Poly and Sioux Nation certainly looks a good juvenile under the right conditions. Expecting a few of the better 2 YO’s to be making introductions in the next few weeks.
June 23, 2017 at 22:19 #1306014At this time last year, he only had 4 G1s, so he’s 5 up on last year!

2 G1 races at Belmont next weekend coming up first. There is also races in Canada ( Woodbine ) & Hong Kong in December. Plenty of air miles this year i think.

July 4, 2017 at 11:31 #1307615I think some are being very unfair on Seamie heffernan. How many times do we remember him given horses bad rides. A lot less than Ryan moore. Keeps it simple most of the time. His ride on Highland reel in the arc and the breeders cup were superb as was his ride on capri hugging the rail. Remember he rides most of the top horses in their work so knows all their wee habits. Ryan does seem to overdo the holding up of horses whereas seamie invariably runs closer to the pace. Padraig beggy is obviously very good at ride for luck horses but was always going to be down the pecking order. Yes seamie knows he’s got a great job with minimal pressure but he delivers and gives valuable info on horses to aiden. I think a few are jealous of the huge money he has won on second strings but thats the way it is. Why doesn’t Tom queally get more top rides. It’s face fits as in all walks of life
