Just using monalee as a refrence, could argue the same point with al boun photo, presenting percy or black corton, id probably rather have barney dwan than EE also but i suspect they will exploit his mark for a handicap.
Dont have anything against EE chance of winning, only reason i even answered potato was because there was too much fiction being stated as fact with very little substance behind it.
March 2, 2018 at 11:55 #1344533The winners of the 4m chase since 2010 have between them had 66 races after the victory in the 4m race.
Those 66 races have produced 2 class 2 hcap wins, 1 grade 3 chase win (4 runner race-2 fallers) and if you really want to count it a winner of the x country chase.
Marathon staying races ruin horses sorry to break it to you guys.
Do they ruin every horse????
No there are always exceptions however the facts show that if you win in the 4miler you will have done well to win another race.
Running well in the 4mile race clearly breaks many a decent horse. Though don’t let the facts get in the way.
Exactly the same with the grand national. There are exceptions red rum for example.

Hmm…
2010 – winner Poker De Sivola won the Whitbread, 4th Any Currency became a Cross Country legend
2011 – winner Chicago Grey won the Red Mills Chase two years later, PU On His Own unlucky not to win a Gold Cup
2012 – winner Teaforthree 2nd in a Welsh National and 3rd in a Grand National, 2nd Harry The Viking numerous good runs in long-distance chases and still active now, 5th Alfie Spinner better than ever as a 13yo this season and recently 2nd in a Welsh National
2013 – 3rd Godsmejudge, 6th Highland Lodge & 7th Emperors Choice all having good long careers in good staying chases
2014 – 2nd Shotgun Paddy busy with some success in top staying handicap chases ever since, 7th Rogue Angel an Irish National winner
2015 – winner Cause Of Causes won at two more Cheltenham Festivals, 2nd Broadway Buffalo, 5th Sego Success, 6th Cogry, 8th Doing Fine, UR Thunder And Roses all enjoyed success in good staying chases since
2016 – winner Minella Rocco 2nd in a Gold Cup, 3rd Native River won various top staying chases since, 5th Vicente won two Scottish Nationals, 6th Vieux Lion Rouge won two good staying chases, likewise fallers Definitly Red, Noble Endeavor and Pleasant Company
2017 – too soon to conclude but big runs from 2nd Missed Approach in the Hennessy, 5th A Genie In The Bottle in Irish graded chases, 7th Beware The Bear a good winner at Chepstow early season, 9th Calett Mad a multiple winner since, PU Edwulf won the Irish Gold Cup.
The key point is that the National Hunt Chase is getting better year on year. You’re being very selective with your statistics, potato, in saying that the race finishes horses. Of course some have recoiled or been difficult to train after this race, but you could probably say that with equal frequency about any Goodwood maiden. In fact, recent years suggest the National Hunt Chase is an excellent feeder for the top staying handicap chases.
March 2, 2018 at 12:57 #1344544Coral have cut elegant escape into 10/1 for the RSA this morning.
Single figure odds look imminent.
Who on Earth is backing the tug boat who will surely run in the 4miler??????
March 2, 2018 at 13:07 #1344548He have seen lots of money, potato. Probably just a NRMB-inspired move. Would certainly SP shorter than 14/1 with a run.
March 2, 2018 at 15:42 #1344564It’s going to the Irish this year… Our top staying novices are pants to be fair.
March 4, 2018 at 13:34 #1344746Monalee coming here assuming there’s good in the going description; according to HdB
March 4, 2018 at 22:32 #1344797I know The Curse Of The Feltham/The Curse Of The Kauto Star is A Thing, but I’m a sad fool and I’m on Black Corton. Lovely horse, doesn’t know when to stop. Also available for the King George at some tasty prices, too.
Can’t help but think Presenting Percy could well be this year’s Irish Hype Horse.
BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do
March 4, 2018 at 23:00 #1344799Totally agree about the King George FLD, took the 66’s a couple of weeks back, and still looks big just now.
March 4, 2018 at 23:07 #1344801The form lines from last years Albert Bartlett with Monalee finishing well clear of Elegent Escape suggest that the Irish Novice Chasers are better over the staying distances. Black Corton may have improoved since his defeat to Elegent Escape and there are many varibales to consider and he could well do it but Presenting Percy, hype or no hype, isn’t the only Irish horse ypu need to worry here; Monalee and Al Boum Photo will be bringing it also.
March 6, 2018 at 00:33 #1344909Dounikos runs here.
March 6, 2018 at 08:00 #1344920Dounikos runs here.

March 6, 2018 at 14:17 #1344948GB look certain to win this race Elegant Escape is the big boy but ballyoptic is the danger horse. Black Corton may hang on for 3rd.
Is the Floggas form even worth the paper it’s written on?
The first 7 home covered by 7 lengths, the horse who controlled the pace from the front comes out on top in a slowly run race. Everyman and his dog seem to think Monalee is a superstar.
I can’t have that.
Form looks average and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Team GB could easily take all 3 places here.
March 6, 2018 at 14:35 #1344950I’d be careful making assumptions on the Flogas just yet, i remember similar comments being applied to a Novice chase at Leopardstown(might’ve been the same race) prior to the festival a few years back where 1 length separated 4 horses, Boston Bob,Texas Jack, Lord Windermere and Lyreen legend.
Texas Jack went to the JLT i think and ran no race but in the RSA Boston Bob fell when leading at the last, Lord Windermere won the race and Lyreen Legend was second
March 6, 2018 at 14:46 #1344952Lol you must be trolling
Black corton- 10 chases or whatever and peaked at 155 hasnt improved on it for 3 runs
Ballyoptic- overated hurdler, flattered by the rating, 4 chase starts no signs of improvement, declining rating.poor at cheltenham
Elegant escape- 5 chase starts, steadily improving, firmly put in his place by monalee over hurdles
You rate the kauto star novice chase as better than the flogas?? The winner of the kauto star ran to 155 after his 10th start
Monalee, 3 chase starts already rated 155 (black cortons peak) plenty room for improvement, cheltenham form in the book, scope for improvement
Presentig percy- 3 chase starts already rated 157, improving (didnt run in flogas but already rated 157)
Al boum photo- 3 chase starts, already rated 153, scope for improvement
So to summarise, the flogas winner ran to 155 and the kauto star winner ran to 155,monalee ran to that rating after 2 1/2 chase starts, black corton ran to that after 10 chase starts (peaked at 155for now), aside from monalee most/all of the irish raiders are already mid 150s after 3ish starts, would be massively disappointing if one of the irish horses cant run into the 160s at the rate there improving. Can any of the british? Doesnt look like it from what theyv shown already
March 6, 2018 at 14:49 #1344954I will say though, in terms of british runners potato, your probably on the one with the most room for improvement.
