Only because in an interview early in the season Ruby said he would like to ride the gold cup winner (obviously) and he doesn’t care which one of Yorkhill, Djakadam or Bamako Moriviere was to win it.
That was revealed to be a typo/error MoM, the horse Ruby meant was Acapella Bourgeouis who recently moved to the Mullins yard.
Agree wholeheartedly with Botchy on Monalee, that was a seriously impressive display today. What a stunning looking chaser he is. De Bromhead has a reputation for being one of the best in the business for teaching a horse how to jump a fence, but I reckon there was very little he had to teach this fella, he looked an absolute natural.
10/1 for this is more than fair in my opinion, but I have a nagging feeling he might go for the JLT instead. If he wins the Drinmore in impressive style, connections might feel the intermediate trip suits him best. If Finian goes for the Arkle, which is looking even more likely after the Tizzard’s comments yesterday, the JLT could be wide open for Monalee, and with the likes of Presenting Percy and Death Duty in the RSA (although I would like to see DD in the JLT), the competition looks a lot stiffer for him there.
I’ve taken a small bit of the 25/1 on Monalee for the JLT, and a comparatively larger bit of the 8/1 to win any race, just incase he goes here.
December 1, 2017 at 14:01 #1329659That’s just convinced me even more that Willoughby Court is not an RSA horse
December 2, 2017 at 05:13 #1329877I think he’d actually be suited to the step up in trip.
As it goes, I’m all over Bamako Moriviere to win any race at 20/1. His form keeps working out in every big novice race.
For me, he’s probably going to go to the JLT which puts him against Finians Oscar potentially but I really think BM is being ignored everywhere. He beat Jury Duty last time and that horse has franked the form big time.
December 15, 2017 at 03:14 #1332035I assume this has now turned into a match race between Finians Oscar and Monalee? Tizzard seems to be talking about three miles for Finians Oscar and as a prior year Alber Bartlett runner up this has to be Monalee’s target too.
Bamako Moriviere is interesting but I can’t make my mind up on him at the moment. His performances look solid but yet I’m not excited by him.
Is there anything else in Ireland that people fancy?
December 15, 2017 at 11:58 #1332065INVITATION ONLY 20/1 for me
Not do it over hurdles last year when expecting big things he won well on chasing debut and might be over fences where he fufill potential he had in bumper days.
December 22, 2017 at 12:57 #1333457I think Finian’s Oscar will redeem himself today and have taken 16s to a small stake in the hope he ends up here.
December 22, 2017 at 13:59 #1333461I don’t think Finian’s Oscar could touch Monalee.
I’d say the best Irish horses in this will be Monalee and Presenting Percy. Think Death Duty will go for the JLT. I’d say Mullins will have someone for this; but it’s hard to know who at this stage of the season. Willoughby Court is the best Novice Chaser on the English side. He looks nailed on for the JLT.
December 22, 2017 at 14:41 #1333469Bamako morivieres form has worked out really well, looking forward to seeing his next run. Presenting Percy looked very impressive over 3miles 4 at fairyhouse a few weeks ago. Maybe this or the 4 miler for him. Will be interesting wherever he runs. As with a lot of candidates for this race we really don’t know if they will go to the Jlt or 4 miler even. So many of the market leaders could go to 2/3 other options
December 22, 2017 at 14:43 #1333470I think Finian’s Oscar will redeem himself today and have taken 16s to a small stake in the hope he ends up here.
Hes proving to be a tricky horse, but hes got the engine for this, definitely needs to be produced later and i think a bigger field will suit, im taking todays 2nd as a positive towards this rather than a negative
16/1 is a nice price for this should he be any bigger ill be snapping it up
December 22, 2017 at 14:56 #1333471Bamako morivieres form has worked out really well
I’ve been a big BM fan all season (see my post from early November on this thread for example) but I think he’s going to be a JLT horse. Thankfully I’m on ‘To win any race’ rather than that in particular in case he did go here.
December 26, 2017 at 17:37 #1334133Had a bit of the 20/1 remaining for Black Corton.
Thought his win today was superb off a strong gallop off the front. Not sure it was the best grade 1 but he’s improving and his attitude today in a strongly run race is a massive positive for such a gruelling race like the RSA (is there a tougher race than the RSA for novices all season?). My only worry is that he will have had a longish season by then but I think his price makes him a decent bet.
He may find one or two of the Irish contingent too good on the day so I’ve gone each way (a very rare thing for me antepost).
Black Corton @ 20/1 each way
December 26, 2017 at 21:31 #1334204Fountains Windfall @ 33’s
Would have stormed home IMO had he stayed on his feet
December 26, 2017 at 23:12 #1334231That’s his problem. Staying on his feet. They will probably
miss Cheltenham altogether if he falls next time.December 27, 2017 at 08:57 #1334258My thoughts exactly.
December 27, 2017 at 12:47 #1334300I’d hold back on FW for this in case they decide to go JLT – he’s a pretty free runner and the faster pace might suit.
January 4, 2018 at 17:15 #1335587I’ve started having a good look into the fez markets now and a thought came into my mind regarding the top two in the betting for this –
Davy Russell has been riding Monalee this season as it appears that D Mullins has possibly fell out with Henry. Davy also rides Presenting Percy.
He can’t ride both in the RSA, and if he fancied the ride on Monalee more, could be then advise Pat Kelly (or put Pat off the RSA as he’d be without his services) to go to the 4 miler?
He stayed on well over 3m 5f, so it’s certainly possible.
This thought has made me have a bit on Monalee at 7s. Was jumping and travelling well I thought until he put in a novice mistake and fell the other day.
January 4, 2018 at 17:58 #1335591Kev, only problem is that HDB has said he is not too keen on the RSA as a race for his horses ( JLT ???). Hopefully Percy goes for the 4 miler from a pocket point of view though.
