Have been topping up on monalee at 10/1 down to 7/1
Would have won last time im sure of it and would have been cut to about 4/1, hopefully they send him here, made for the race, not too much else appeals at this stage apart from al boum photo for me but he may not come here, ill have savers on the day if monalee turns up, will chip away at the price as i think its more than fair
January 4, 2018 at 19:19 #1335609I’ve had a bit of the 33s on Fountains Windfall too. Watched the Feltham again and he would have dotted up. Basically a fluent jumper too – that fall looked like jockey error as much as anything. If Black Corton is 16/1 generally, how can FW be so big?
Don’t listen to Joe about holding off on the 33/1 – the Honeymonster confirmed on his recent ATR stable tour that the RSA is the only race for FW.
January 4, 2018 at 20:08 #1335615Yeah, I’m beginning to envisage a big race from him despite that Kempton fall.
I’ve found in recent years the RSA to be more of a day of race bet than the other major novice events during the week. Antepost it can be much more complex than the Supreme or Arkle
January 4, 2018 at 23:18 #1335641I was worried by the same comment Henry made the other month. Henry before Leopardstown fall however said the below – he won over three miles at Clonmel and he was second over three miles in the Albert Bartlett, so he has good form over that trip. Going back over three will hopefully suit him.
I like FW, and had sadly backed him in the Feltham, but I want to see him win his lower grade race the trainer has said he’s going for next before thinking about him as I don’t think he’d shorten much for a lower class win.
January 7, 2018 at 00:21 #1336070I think he’ll probably be a JLT horse, but I threw a few quid the way of Livelovelaugh at 50’s each way.
Doesn’t seem to be high in the yards pecking order, but big fan of the horse, and I’ll back him if he heads to another of the novice events.
January 8, 2018 at 23:18 #1336557agree Monalee the one to beat, he’s a huge horse and he steps over most of his fences, however last time out he made a novicey error, sad for me as I had 100 on him at evens.
If he jumps around at Cheltenham I think he’ll grind them down up the home straight- we already know he loves the place. Wonder if his goat will finally bring him some good luck
January 9, 2018 at 00:03 #1336562Really keen on him judge, hopefully all is well after the fall and he learns from it as his jumping is very efficient to my eye and i do believe he would be a hell of a lot shorter had he stood up!
January 9, 2018 at 08:07 #1336579Take a line through LLL and you’ll unearth the 2018 RSA winner
January 9, 2018 at 12:44 #1336607Colin Tizzard is not making life easy predicting the correct races for his novice chasers, two of which I really like. He’s quoted on separate occasions that Elegant Escape, Finians Oscar AND Sizing Tennessee are likely RSA horses – I just don’t see it.
I’m most sweet on Elegant Escape but for the 4 mile race, I think its perfect for him and I cannot believe two books still go 20/1. I shall keep helping myself.
Finians Oscar was a disaster for me last year having all the fancy prices for the Neptune. I thought he looked beat on his first start and was lucky, 2 miles is never his trip and possibly turned out too soon at Ascot. Fans of this horse can take reassurance his best performance was at Cheltenham over his correct trip. He’d get found out in an RSA and just hope CT see’s sense.
Which leaves Sizing Tennessee. I’m least sweet on him. However, he’s an improving horse and if his jumping continues to improve I’ve seen worse 25/1 bets. How many 10 year olds have won this though?
That’s where I’d aim them for, even if it is the pocket talking.
January 9, 2018 at 12:54 #1336608^^^ Knew I’d forgotten another one of his – West Approach, arguably his best chance of the lot in this race.
January 9, 2018 at 20:05 #1336657I posted about The Storyteller in the DLAP section on here before his beginners chase win. Wherever goes, I’d like to be with him. Chasing debut was very impressive, particularly his jumping.
January 9, 2018 at 20:49 #1336659I’ll second that, he gained lengths at his fences. The winning margin flattered to deceive also, he was really held together between jumps. I imagine the preference would be for the JLT no? Especially with Death Duty ruled out?
January 9, 2018 at 21:00 #1336664Yes, i like him a lot also. Was a real blow for me last year missing his intended race. Currently 14’s to win any race at the moment. Hmmmm

What races do you possibly see on the agenda THM ?
January 10, 2018 at 01:13 #1336700Does it not put you off The Storyteller when Gordon Elliott described him in his stable tour as ‘a very exciting horse for handicap hurdles’? Granted he now appears to have been switched to Chasing but it’s hardly a ringing endorsement for a grade 1 at the festival.
January 10, 2018 at 15:12 #1336761He’s by Shantou out of a Bob Back mare and those types are, almost without exception, progressive as novice hurdlers but inconsistent over fences.

That quote has to be applied in context, at the time I believe The Storyteller was handicapped exceptionally well relative to his ability. I think Gordon was of the belief he could have scooped up one of the big handicap pots with ease, before progressing to Graded races.
Perhaps the improvement he’s shown for a fence has surprised even them, and their ambitions have changed accordingly?

I think anything from 2m 4f to 3m should be fine for him, but the JLT would look the easier race for him at the moment to me. In so far s where he goes next, I’m not sure. The Moriarty at Leopardstown could be an option but I’m guessing Elliott will try find something easier for him before pitching him into Grade 1 company.
I wouldn’t be worried by Elliott’s comment regarding him being an exciting horse for handicap hurdles. The way he jumps he’d take lengths out of Willoughby Court if he jumps anything like he did last time. Ability wise he still has it to prove but he’s one of the more interesting outsiders. I’ve yet to back him as am on Al Boum Photo at 25/1 (posted on JLT thread over Christmas) but may add him at a later stage. Think he may be underestimated where he goes, whether that be in Ireland or the UK.
