Top or bottom of the card for me.
Does not sit will jammed in the middle.
Also agree about the timing of the main event.

It’s growing on me as I get used to it and it has speeded up.

However agree with the comment "I thought upgrading was supposed to mean things being added not taken away."

I used to use the stats that detailed trainers and jockeys records who were at the course that day. Now I can only find a top 5 which includes names who may not be at the course that day.

It may well still be there somewhere but I’ve given up looking.

It’s only because the vast majority of commentaries are spot on that a gaff stands out when it is made.

How many of us on here are faultless in the day job ?

Difference is for most of us our mistakes when we make them are out of the public gaze.

"You do not get invited to occupy senior positions if it is thought that you are up for sale.

"The idea that I could be corrupted and that, for the sake of a few thousand pounds, I would jeopardise my reputation for independence and act against the interests of the SPRC is bizarre and offensive."

How could anyone think such a thing – a person in a senior position being corruptible !!!

Has he got no understanding of the terms conflict of interest or perception.

Try to get to Bangor, Chester, Haydock and Aintree at least once or twice each a year.

    Guess where I’m from :?:

Also try and take in a new course if I’m on holiday.

I’d agree that judgement of ability is subjective at the end of the day, but taking Ken’s point, if OR is not perfect maybe some analysis of strike rate and SP would be an alternative test.

The narrative issue and personalities are key to racing’s ability to reach out to the uncommitted viewer.

In that respect you have to focus on the domestic to create the familiarity.

But after that the global scene has it’s place in much the same way as say the Champions League.

If there is significant British interest in the Arc or Melbourne Cup based on a reputation built here then it can capture the attention but if it’s 12 foreign entrants it will not do so in the same way.

We may well be a minority sport when measured by the general public’s attitude to racing overall.

However, when it comes to the "crown jewels" the interest level rises massively to the casual watcher so there is a constituency to be tapped into.

In football terms think Premier League compared to the Conference – both have live TV deals but Wrexham v Stevenage does not attract the casual viewer like Man Utd v anyone else does.

Unfortunately at the moment the non committed race watcher just see’s an occasional one off event and in terms of personality, equine or human it’s Frankie and Kauto Star.

Racing needs to understand what TV needs from it to maintain it’s place on mainstream TV and make those changes just as other sports have. It may anger the traditionalists but change always does and always will.

The sovereign series may have been ill constructed, poorly marketed etc but as an idea it’s not ill conceived in my opinion.

    Good luck to him.

He was practising yesterday as they went towards "the clubhouse turn" at Lingfield.

If we had a rag that was clearly a poor jumper then I would be concerned but Cerium’s record is not littered with F’s and UR’s.

It would just be knee jerk stuff if Cerium brought down a favourite as opposed to Kauto Star say.

PFN may have a point about about raising the threshold and is at liberty to exploit the rules as they stand but it certainly does not look a principled argument to use the rules and complain about them.
