Had 2 winners on the Tuesday (Voy Por Ustedes & Native Jack).

Not a sniff on the Wednesday.

Fondmort on the Thurs & BJK on the last day so managed to end the week down, although not too harsh.

Highlight was the battle between VPU and Monet’s Garden. Both horses of great potential.

Lowlight (with the obvious exception of the fatalities) was the bloody weather.

Froze my arse off on the Friday :( .

Talking of Pipe, ventured into a bookies for the first tim in a while today (Billy’s) only to hear the pre racing talk going on about the Pipe banker being Our Vic and they were ‘generously’ offering the biggest price anywhere.

    Yeah right !!

Out of form or not though he hasn’t gone through a festival without at least 1 winner since ’89 so it wouldn’t surprise to see one of his pop up at long odds tomorrow.

    Agreed Grass,

    The times indicate either: –

    a) We’ve seen some excpetionally fast horse

    b) The ground is riding extremely quick

    or

    c) Soething dodgy re: the returned times.

    Can’t believe it’s a or b.

The ground looks to be riding pretty quick.

Not sure where your going with that FSL.

Yes you’d expect the flat bred to show a better turn of foot but to expect a traditional flat jockey to have more strength in the finish than a N.H jockey ????

I’d backed Golden Cross and thought there could have been a steward’s but in all honesty (and this isn’t having a go at Johnny who rode a great race), a more experienced NH jockey may have been stronger in keeping the horse together.

    A worthy winner though.

Had a free day out on Tuesday and came back with profit due to V.P.U and Native Jack but absolutely done my brains yesterday.

    6 bets – 6 losers. Awful !

Talking of Edinburgh, and I for one like the place a lot, try walking from the airport entrance to your departure gate without getting stopped by: –

    a) the girls strategically placed at the bottom of the escalators

    or

    b) the old fella smack bang in the middle of the walkway by the bar.

    or (and most likely)

    c) Both.

Every week they see me – and still persist.<br>"No, I didn’t want one of your Credit Cards last Friday and believe it or not, nothing has changed in the interim".

My preferred approach, especially if I’ve got time to spare, i.e. stuck in an airport and already had far too much alchohol to gaurantee my boarding, is to use up as much of their time as possible, thereby denying them the chance of as genuine sale, and then after 10-15 mins or so just walk off uninterested.

There are obviously no cast in stone rules on how to play poker rightly or wrongly but sorry Aston I have to disagree with that one.

If I had to put forward a second tip it would be ‘never limp in unless you’re a) holding a monster in early pos and expect a raise or b) sitting with a short stack and expect a raise and at least one caller – to offer you the right pot odds.’

Seriously, if you’re short stacked and limp and are raised ‘all-in’ what are you going to do ?. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll have the odds to justify the call.

Simple rule: – early to mid pos, then don’t call the blinds if you aren’t prepared to move all in if push comes to shove .

If I’m short stacked I’d much prefer to wait till I’m late to act and see a few flat calls in front of me. I’ll push and primarily hope everybody passes but if they don’t then at least I’m getting some value.

Obviously it all depends on the blind size, how short the stack and what level you’re playing at.

    Correct flagship,

Only one way, IMVHO, to play KK but you’ve got to be prepared to let ’em go if the board shows signs of danger – and not just a bullet.

Not quite the same I know but did anybody see Helmuth’s laydown in the main event at this year’s WPT.

Holding AK, with a flop of AA4, and he folds to an all-in re-raise.

    Opponent had A4.

I know he prides himself on reading other players and is in a no lose situation with regards to his reputation but still I dont think I could have done that even with my tournament life on the line.<br>Although given hindsight what else could he really have put him on other than pocket 4’s, in which case he’s still behind.

Incidentally, first time I ever played a live casino MTT I was dealt AA on the button and thought it was christmas.<br>Small but pot size bet with plenty of callers.<br>Flop showed Kxx.<br>Checked round to me so typical continuity bet, only to be put all in.<br>Guessed I was behind to two pair but rebuy period so wtf ?.<br>Guy was holding KK :o

Nearly put me off for life

    Sounds good to me DL.

Tend to play live a lot of Fridays (including this one) but shall make it when I can.

    Tuesdays sounds perfect though.

Bit confused though – Are you saying we’ll play by logging onto TRF or will that just be a means for communicating the set-up of a game ?

It takes less than 5 minutes to set one up.

    In no particular order: –

    Give the table a name.

Select, STT or MTT with a maximum no. of entrants.

Pick the no. of chips, e.g. 1500.

Select the buy-in (which automatically calculates the rake).

Choose whether freezout or re-buy (in which case you select the period I think – although haven’t set one of these up).

    Select the prizemoney split, e.g. 50%, 30%, 20%.

I Also think you can select the blind increase period.

Give the table a password, which could be P.M’d on here to anybody interested (also informing of a start time).

    That’s just about it.

True Flagship but unless I’m playing at $30+ and my oppo’ keeps doing it I’m more inclined to believe he doesn’t understand the concept of value rather than being shrewd and wanting the call.

The chances of him having an overpair to my high card is high compared to the number of times he’ll give me the value.

Basically I’m gonna be calling with ATC here to see the flop, Re-raises excluded.

Unless you’re sitting on a premium hand, and want a call, never double the BB when down to heads up.

A mistake that you see far too often and never ceases to amaze me.

You’re immediately offering the BB 3/1 pot odds to call when in reality, at best they’re likely to be no more than a 2/1 dog.

I play Ladbrokes mostly and I know they allow the setting up of private MTT’s, with rebuy options for a selected period.

Do Stan James Smithy or are the private tourneys STT only ?

It looks like you’ll get a decent response hopefully so a MTT looks to be the only option.
