I dunno about everyone else, but i’m not getting ads. Just ‘Sponsored links’ and nothing else. I’m running Opera 9.25 but I have Kaspersky IS suite running so that’s probably the reason.
I don’t like the google ads, especially on places like Tucows and download.com. The ads can easily be mistaken for the downloads themselves on some sites too (deliberately so??). I avoid google ads like the plague personally, and would rather have the banner ads at the header of the page.

I kinda agree regarding Aintree. I thought the same before I even posted, but most times the good horses are geared up for the premier end of season meetings and my point was more that Cheltenham might come a little too quick rather than Aintree being ideal. Is the Ayr race really prestigeous enough for a horse that will come back next year a 10yo?

I would suggest that Hobbs Hill would be best to wait until Aintree. A jolt like that could cause all kinds of unseen niggling issues and pulled muscles.
BTW, I meant to type Soulard earlier rather than Pur De Sivola. That was probably a worse fall than HH sustained and almost knocked me out of my seat just watching it. Sickening stuff all round.

Such a section could be named “The Betfair Forum”.

Such a section is already called the Betfair forum :)

I honestly thought that Soulard was dead before his body hit the ground in the 420. Seeing the horse get up surprised, and pleased, me immensely.
All told, today was full of shockers at Kempton.

Being a born and bred Chelmsford man, it’s nice to see the place become a ‘racing town’. I live in Brentwood nowadays, but i’d love to attend the first meeting as it is still only 20m down the road for me.
I’m glad to see a proper start date on the cards.

I simply wondered about Ascot after briefly remembering that today was VicC day. So I flicked over to ATR and saw that Tamarinbleu was thrown in at the bottom end of the market and said to myself “ahh, so today is the day”. I had not one clue of the runners until 1.43 today.

    You don’t follow racing, then?

I used to follow it avidly gus. It affected my home life as I spent so much time on the game. So I gave it up as a punter, now I make a point of watching just the prime cuts. I still love watching good racing, which is why I switched on for the VC. Some may call me an armchair jockey now :)
I was a trend punter when I was a gambler. Which is to say that I could look at a race and eliminate 3/4 of the field without even looking at the formbook. I still do it in races like the Grand National, ie. eliminate all 8yo and below, and all 12yo and above. Then take out all dicky jumpers and everything out of the handicap. Eliminate the top two in the weights, and apprentice riders. That usually leaves you with about ten runners.
There are 100s of good trends/caveats that will cover most races. Taking on the fav in sellers is another good one. It was this kind of method that got me interested in Tamarinbleu when he got turned over at 1/10 in some tinpot race a few years ago. I’ve followed the horse since, and he always finds his form approaching key races.

It is possible to have a solid opinion on racing and not bet. No, I didn’t bet on the horse. I don’t bet any more. I noticed, on flicking on RUK at 1.43, that Haydock had been abd and I simply wondered about Ascot after briefly remembering that today was VicC day. So I flicked over to ATR and saw that Tamarinbleu was thrown in at the bottom end of the market and said to myself “ahh, so today is the day”. I had not one clue of the runners until 1.43 today.
The moment I saw him against the QM ‘good thing’ at 14s, I knew in my mind the horse would win as I have always considered TB to be a horse that always seems to improve a stone when there is a big pot approaching, and the odds are right. £76k is quite a pot, and 14/1 is quite some odds.
If the horse follows up next time out i’ll be pleased to admit that i’m a muppet. A crackpot. Call me what you like. But I stand by the opinion that TB is 100% sure to leave today’s form behind in his next race.

The horse will not win his next race. Mark my words.
Job is done. No need for the disparaging words dj, i’m just stating an honest opinion. I knew the horse would win today, as soon as I saw the card. Lay him next time though.

    Hello everbody

I live and work and great leighs, and have seen the racecourse developing from day one. I am a chef in the ‘green dragon’ pub wich is in spitting distance of the course. I for one cant wait for completion because as you can imagine lunchtimes are rather busy with all the groundworkers etc. I’m sure my boss doesnt agree though!

I get the feeling from reading some threads on here that the course isnt being received all that well, i can understand why, i’m no fan of all weather racing but i have the novelty of being able to see the course form my upstairs, so maybe i’m biased! But in all seriousness it is starting to look like a racecourse now, and it is good for my local area.

I know the Green Dragon, but i’m more of a St Annes Castle man myself :)

Scribbles, I am glad you have reached a happy place in your journey.

I dont mean to sound like a GA evangelist but I do believe they are right in saying the compulsivve gambler is "never cured".

I do not therefore believe you are compulsive, nor ill.

I used to play slots too. I would get thru £25 a night on those £50 jackpot social club things. For me, it takes one very bad day and realisation that I am chasing a lost cause. I have not played a slot machine since circa 1986.
Once i’ve explored every possibility without success, I simply walk away. But I have to be convinced that i’ve had a proper go at winning. It took me 35 years to realise that it can’t be done without a proper bank on the nags.

If you are a compulsive gambler (ie. gambling controls you, not the other way around) the only way of help is to go to gamblers anonymous and follow their programme.

There is no cure, and like alcoholics, comoulsive gamblers are always in remission, never cured.

In my experience problem gambling seems to largely involve fruit machine, casino and online poker addictions. I have met few recovering gambling addicts who are what you might term horse racing fans.

Oh no, i’m not in remission. I’m done with it, I have no interest anymore. The only thing that would ever get me to have another go is if BF got rid of their prohibitive 5% commission rate. Thankfully, that will never happen and I will never have to use their shoddy service again.
I was tempted to have a little go of my OddsExtractor proggie the other day, and found out that it was now defunct because GreedFair had started charging prohibitively for the extraction of ‘past data’. Yet another reason for me to abandon a greedy and self-serving industry to all bar a purists view. That is what I call myself now. A purist.
I have in my head more info than most are likely to collect in a lifetime. But I have no inclination to use it on a game that is completely different to what it was when I was introduced to it 35 years ago.

I gave up gambling 18 months ago. The last bet I had was a ‘numbers game’ on the 2007 National, using free bets from the bookie promotions.
I played the game properly for about three years, and it affected my home life so badly that I couldn’t take it any more.
I was moody, and never went out anywhere. I would advise anyone who thinks that playing the nags from a PC screen is a good way to go … it isn’t. Trust me on that.

The Williamhill.com Chase? Nice original name for a 100k race
A lot better than the ‘Madge Oldroyd is 50 today Selling Hcap’
Whatever happened to the memorable names for races? I’m really looking forward to The Williamhill.com Chase, not.
