Horrid fall, poor lad. RIP
Racing Post says collapsed and died on the gallops. RIP lad
Great posting, Paul, brought tears to my old eyes

Quite enjoyed that, thank you. Makes me wish I was still ‘in the saddle’!
Sad beyond belief, for the horse, her connections and the people watching. How joy can turn to sorrow in a split second. RIP.
Totally agree Moe. I wonder why it happened on or just before the finishing post. Did she become unbalanced when the jockey probably dropped his hands thus taking off the pressure? Did she change her legs or did she just tread awkwardly? I don’t suppose we’ll ever know other than it being a tragic event for all concerned. Poor girl.

Very sad, lovely picture of him stretching over a jump in this morning’s paper. Poor lad.
Perhaps the goal is to have a good time amd fun riding you own horse.
Although I understand where everyone is coming from with the posts about SWC and family, the basic fact remains that the horse is theirs and they probably don’t give a flying fig about punters’ pockets. If they want to enjoy their sport with their own horses, then so be it. Surely they are entitled to do this?
Excellent photos, EmmyK, well done!

He also knows more about horse racing than anyone i have ever met! He truely is a Legend and i will certainly be making the most of him whiles hes around!
Good to know that, Lee.
I think your grandma did rather well with the Christmas presents considering one year I got a bucket and a pair of working boots (and they were mens at that!)
Reports are coming in of an explosion in a pie factory in Huddersfield – 3.14285 reported dead!

Husband to wife: Darling, my new Olympic condoms have just arrived. I think I’ll wear Gold tonight
Wife to husband: Really! Why not wear Silver and come second for a change! Here’s one that our very own

posted elsewhere.
I think she shocked a few of her friends

OMG Mr. P. Nearly fell off my chair laughing!

Oh dear dear, the poor old chap. I’m probably under fire for saying this as I don’t know the background circumstances etc, but why do owners not retire their horses before this age?. The report says he had been with his owner since he was a three year old, had he not done enought to earn a retirement? Too late now.
Terribly sad end (to us), and very unlucky, but how could his connections have possibly predicted that this run, which he was probably enjoying a lot, would bring about his sad demise.
RIP Kappelhoff

I take your point here, I’m sure they had no way of knowing. Bit of a knee’jerk reaction by me in the first place. Sorry.
I wonder if it could have been Stalbridge Colonist and possibly Stan Mellor? Apologies to Mr. Mellor if it wasn’t him.
I seem to recall a famous jockey of the time riding a furious ‘finish’ on an equally well known grey horse back in the 60s. He realised his mistake after passing the line and tried to galvanise the horse back into gallop mode. The horse was having none of it and he had to pull up. Sorry I can’t remember the names of those concerned and I’m sure it’s happened since.
Thank you for you comments Grayson, they are much appreciated and accepted. As I said, I don’t know the individual circumstances involved. I know that old warriors race on, and recall back in the sixties an old chap of approximately 17 years old still racing.
Unfortunately it doesn’t prevent me feeling desperately sorry for this poor chap.- AuthorPosts
